“BS, he married her because someone told him it would be a good idea and she was "familiar". She was a nanny to another pro-golfer friend. Everyone's making such a big deal over this black/white thing on this post that it's laughable. Obviously Tiger has a preference and apparently that's got some people's panties in a bunch.”

“Hey, it doesn't matter who Tiger ended up with. He would be the biggest fool in the world not to have a pre-nup. See Paul McCartney for that. I'm with you, I think given the outrageous philandering and partying going on for so long, this marriage was a product of strategic PR.”

“In California if you are married for say... ten years you can petition for alimony for half of those years. The longer you are married the more the pay out. I don't agree, I think she deserves whatever the pre-nup states she deserves. A lot of these high profile marriages are extremely contractual because of the money involved. If I was supporting my husband for years, for instance, and he became a successful doctor making tons of money while I stayed home with the kids, then he decided to kick me to the curb you can bet I would definitely think I deserve a pay out. He made the money, true, but they have children to think about and she did give him that.”

I don't agree with Lieberman, if that's the gist of where you were going with this, and think he has no place in DC. I think if the liberals and the far right are not very careful they will find the independent party a force to be reckoned with in 2010, and I'm not talking about the disorganized tea baggers either, I'm talking about those of us who are in the middle getting tired of being pushed around.”
How Happy Is... Losing A Baby
Commented Dec 15, 2009 at 16:23:51 in Living
“Sophie,
I am so sorry for your loss. I too lost a baby, but she was 11 months old. You stated something that I have had to learn the hard way...
"My husband also had a feeling at this point that something was going wrong but didn't say anything as the doctor seemed adamant about getting the job done. And, many of you might be able to relate to this, but in a doctor's surgery it is really easy to go against instinct and not question a doctor while he is working."
I lost my daughter due to an unfortunate mistake that could have been prevented had I listened to my instincts. Like your husband I felt things were wrong, but said nothing. I also went on to have another child, a boy who is 8 years old now, and although I never stop thinking about that other child I do look at my son and realize if it happened differently he would not be here, and he has been a joy. So congratulations to you Sophie on your new child.”

Barack Obama, Warren Buffett Are Distant Cousins

“Wasn't he supposed to be distant cousins with Cheney too? LOL!”
Aesthete replied on Dec 15, 2009 at 11:26:09
“Yes, they are 8th cousins. Obama is also kin to G.W. Bush (10th cousin) and actor, Brad Pitt (9th cousin). I've even heard somewhere that Obama is distantly related to Jefferson Davis, the president of the old Confederacy, which would certainly bear out my observation that American history is fraught with fascinating paradox. Actually, this is not really so unique. A number of our past presidents were distantly related to each other. Obama, though mostl often identified as "black," is no exception.”

“And there is nothing more condescending than having someone tell a fireman or policeman "get dressed on your own time." And "Not with my taxpayer money". The minute a policeman walks through the door they are on the clock and if you think for one minute that they are going to walk through the door, get dressed and not get paid for it forget it. The city does not give anything to public officers out of the goodness of their hearts and it is always going to be a struggle between the union and the cities. Perhaps the city of Oakland should have thought about this when they went into the bargaining table with the union and went over the contract. I never call people "dear" unless they hit a nerve with me and you just struck it.”

NRA Quietly Winning Battles For Looser Gun Laws
Commented Dec 12, 2009 at 10:58:38 in Politics
“Okay, you have some valid points, but is it the entire state of Minnesota? or a select county? My point is that the higher the socio economic state of the city/county the more you will see it legal to carry guns into bars, etc. etc. and everyone is a good upstanding citizen who pays their taxes and does what's right, yada yada yada. I can't imagine a place like parts of Detroit allowing that to happen. So where are these gun laws being proposed? In fine upscale environments, places with a lower population, or anywhere at all. The criminals will always be carrying guns and I am not against gun laws to protect property, but you and I as gun owners know that if you take a gun out away from your home your intent is to use it to kill. Like someone else here posted. I wouldn't take my gun to my kid's soccer game and seeing the reactions of some of the parents I wouldn't want to see them holding a gun either. So who makes sure that the parent isn't going to go postal? My point is that rational gun control laws make sense. It is against the law to drive drunk so why should we not make it againast the law to carry concealed weapons into public events?”
ScottM1A replied on Dec 14, 2009 at 00:22:19
“The entire state of MN allows carry into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol as do 40 other states including California so if you are lucky enough to convince your local sheriff to get a carry permit in Cali you can then carry just about anywhere in the state except federal buildings and a very few state offices.
Second point over the past 30 years carry laws have been liberalized we have seen no blood running in the streets, no shootouts in bars by legal carriers, no road rage incidents started by legal carriers so why do we keep getting the same paranoid fantasies every time?
Third point I carry most days just like I wear a seat belt and have a fire extinguisher in my kitchen and car. I certainly don't walk out of my house with a plan to kill what I plan is to stop a threat that I can't run from or otherwise avoid. As Jeff Cooper and a few others have said the first rule of a gun fight is to have a gun and as we've seen with VA Tech and Ft Hood is gun free zones just provide a target rich environment for a killer.”

“Really? You have yet to hear of assault weapons, the kind used by military personnel, to kill police?”
ScottM1A replied on Dec 14, 2009 at 00:25:40
“Assault weapons are not full auto. A full auto firearm is a rarity in civilian hands and has been since 1934 and the NFA, it got rarer in 1986 when the machine gun registry was closed.”

“Good for you, consider yourself lucky. However, there are big cities with strict gun control laws where criminals can get their hands on a weapon anytime they want. I think that is the point of what was originally said. It's a fact that even Mexican criminals can come across the border and buy guns in the US. That's how easy it is to get a gun here. Our laws can be even tighter, but it wouldn't stop someone from obtaining them. Thus it has always been my contention that the gun is a tool, one of many and that the higher the crime rate in a city the lower the socio economic status of that city. So you must live upscale.”

“That's always been the problem with a certain political party. Nobody cares unless it happens to them. It's the uncaring, don't give a sh*t about anyone but myself ideal. In gun ownership there should be privacy, but there should also be public respect.”

“No, I meant Where is it happening? I know about Arizona, but I also know in Arizona they were not going to allow you to bring a gun into a bar, however how are they going to police that? With weapons scanners at the bar room door? And you didn't tell me where specifically. I would find it interesting.”
