“"Go out and exercise that right with your own money, baby."

You do know what happens when poor people or illegal immigrants go to the ER for treatment?

They are treated and discharged and when they can't or don't pay the bill the hospital and the physican's medical group pass that onto the cost for people with insurance and your taxes help subsidize the hospital's charity care.

Joke's on you. You're ALREADY paying for other people's healthcare.

Reforming the system just might make what you now pay less.”

Common sense and conservatism don't belong in the same universe or the same sentence.”

“Fanned and Faved!!!
Look no further than our(Canadian) PM, Steven Harper who wasted our tax dollars to go to Copenhagen when he has no interest or intention in/of offering suggestion or support on climate change agenda. President Obama was correct to exclude him from the meetings he had with other heads of State. He's just another dumb conservative. I hope he looses the next election and we can send him into obscurity. He's a disgrace, and only interested in protecting his Province of Alberta and the tar sands that is causing so much damage to the enviornment.”

I guess this pretty much disproves that assumption. It would be like Fox criticizing the republicants or the tea baggers.”

“McCAIN: I’ve been around here 20-some years. First time I’ve ever seen a member denied an extra minute or two to finish his remarks. … I just haven’t seen it before myself.

On October 10, 2002 — just ahead of the looming mid-term elections — the Senate rushed a debate on a war authorization giving President Bush the power to use force against Iraq. During the course of the frenzied floor debate, then-Sen. Mark Dayton (D-MN) spoke in favor of an amendment offered by Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) that would have restricted Bush’s constitutional powers to wage war against Iraq. After a minute and a half, Dayton ran out of time, prompting this exchange:

The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator’s time has expired.
Mr. DAYTON. I ask for unanimous consent that I have 30 seconds more to finish my remarks.
Mr. McCAIN. I object.

Strengthening the Estate Tax to Strengthen the Country

Commented Dec 18, 2009 at 15:33:26 in Politics

“The richest actually have a low tax rate:

The latest data from the IRS show that as income rises, effective tax rates also rise -- up to a point. The effective income tax rate levels off at 24.1 percent for incomes between $1 million and $1.5 million. For higher incomes the rate declines. For incomes above $10 million the rate is 19.4 percent.
Most of the super rich receive their income in the form of capital gains. Capital gains and qualified dividends are taxed at 15 percent (instead of the top 35 percent rate that applies to other forms of income). http://www.tax.com/taxcom/taxblog.nsf/Permalink/MSUN-7YJ5KA?OpenDocument

And it has been dropping:

Households with incomes over $1 million paid income tax equal to 22.1 percent of their adjusted gross income in 2007. This is down from 23.4 percent in 2004. And from 30.8 percent in http://www.tax.com/taxcom/taxblog.nsf/Permalink/MSUN-7YHGVN?OpenDocumentument

The bottom 90%'s income has dropped, while among the richest the rate of income is at it's highest:

The share of income held by the top 1% was as large in 2005 as in 1928. Reported income increased by 9% in 2005, with the mean for the top 1% increasing by 14% and that for the bottom 90% dropping slightly by 0.6%. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_inequality_in_the_United_States

“Oh the downtrodden rich people. Who will look after them? Maybe you could start a charity or something. We should find some group to represent their interests above everyone else's. People who could undermine anything they didn't like. A group that could donate to polticians to sway their opinion.

I know, we'll call this group/organization "lobbyists".

Now if only they could get the supreme court to equate the spending of money with free speech the rich people would finally be heard (above all others).”

“Where is the edge? And what's on the other side?”

malindeman replied on Dec 18, 2009 at 00:02:19

“That sphere that has those colored blobs on it is a map of radiated heat in the early universe at those locations (but from a time when the universe was filled with hot gas that only later made the stars). We cant look much further back than that because the gas gets opaque before that time. Those fluctuations in temperature arose from tiny quantum scale fluctuations near the beginning time of our universe and were blown up to cosmic size by the inflation (expansion) of the universe. A First mapping of those (using the COBE satillite ~1993) resulted in a Nobel prized for John Mather at NASA/GSFC and others. The pattern of those blobs confirmed a prediction of the inflation model (WMAP satillite) Future space missions aim to look for gravity waves signals the blobs. (Surely another nobel prized waiting.)

We don't know if the universe extends on forever, if it curves around in a big circle, or if the laws of nature very different at much further location. All we can say is the the universe continues on the same as it is here in all directions as far as we can see.”
