Changing Your Body Changes Your Self

“As my wife would note after almost any conversation with her mom, "Guilt, the gift that keep on giving."”
Marine Commandant Defies White House on Gay Troops

“If the President does not dismiss the Commandant immediately he will be guilty of undermining the office of the Commander in Chief. Just as he has chosen to suck up to the GOP and curry favor instead of pursuing needed legislation I wonder if he will let this unworthy leader stay just as he has McChrystal”

The 12 Steps: An Antidote For Celebrities And Other Narcissistic Addicts

“AA was an amazing success for me. 25 years sober after over 20 years of alcoholic drinking. The kind of success or failure statistics you seek are not there because it is AA. Alcoholics Anonymous. Do you know what anonymous meads? I”

“Rabbit, first, it must have been rough, and you deserve credit for your determination.
After reading so many negative comments about AA, and having no personal experience, I can only comment on the two people I know who used a 12-step recovery program. Neither was particularly religious before or after their treatment. I would guess (I'm in healthcare, but not in mental health) that one of them has narcissist leanings (I'd guess not pathological). One remained, to my knowledge, sober, and as happy as the average guy, as far as I could tell. The other was sober for almost 25 years, had a relapse, got treated, and has been sober since, kept his family and job intact. Both continue to attend meetings, which suggests a possible dual-diagnosis complicating the picture - but again my field is not mental health. I have two colleagues who are psychologists whose experience is that dual-dx is more common than recognized in people with addiction issues.
I can only comment as an observer of these anecdotal cases, but of those I've personally seen use 12-step programs, neither reported having religion imposed on them (one was openly gay and encountered no issues with the staff around that), and both were fully aware that 12-step is recovery, and that follow-up and maintenance is also crucial. And, by my pragmatic standards, they are functioning well (and I do not mean they are functioning addicts, I'm aware of the difference).”

“MOST statistics are gathered anonymously.
Congratulations and I'm glad AA worked for you, but that does not mean it is the BEST method for helping addicts. Yet this is where our tax dollars and court appointed clients get sent without looking into whether there are better ways to do it.
Perhaps one whose MAIN goal is to help addicts...”

A Thug By Any Other Name

“So if you suggest the person who insists that "thug" is racist, is ignorant or stupid or poorly educated (because that is what she is), it might make you rude and insensitive but does it all make you racist? Where does it stop. Being critical of someone is not racist unless the only reason for the criticism is their race.”

“Thank you, dBlogger, for the FOX TROTTA phone & address info!
You are correct - HER voice is chilling - sounds like one too many highballs and/or cigarettias! Did she laugh in that very scary voice too???
That doesn't matter - her voice is what it is...but I'm glad you gave warning about it because it is GROSS! Maybe something THE ADAMS FAMILY could capitalize upon for a remake movie! The THING in the Family Room SPEAKS - and - LAUGHS! M E R C Y...
I just called and left my two cents worth. I told her I had lost all "respect" for her - among other things.
I was CIVIL, however... something these PEOPLE OF POWER seem to lack..

“I consider myself a cynic but, obviously, I do not hold a candle to JBS. The truth is Obama's campaign has been financed mainly by individuals so he would owe almost nothing to the lobbyists and special interests who seem to own both Clinton and McCain. If he is elected he will be a very busy man, there is so much to undo or redo, but I, for one, feel much as I did 45 years ago, Hopeful... HR”
