Radical New Idea: Medicare Buy-In For Everyone
Commented Dec 18, 2009 at 13:10:09 in Politics
“I have a better idea: Designate ALL insurance companies as Public Utilities, subject to the same regulations as your Gas & Electricity provider! Let them prove why they need to raise their rates way above inflation! This way we weed out the ones that are just in for the money and set the rest up for an eventual single payer system that can negotiates on behalf of The People!”
LeftRight replied on Dec 18, 2009 at 14:37:07
“That would work except for the fact that most of the utilities were "deregulated" in the 80s and 90s, meaning that they only have profit as their motive right now.
If you were to change the rules BACK, and then add in the insurance companies, then we could talk!”

“Either nationalize them or make them be not for profit. Of course the right will call that socialism and the private cariers will be alllowed to continue pimping off of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals
As Keith Olbermann said " Healthcare insurance corporations who are profiting off health care without contributing one second to the relief of pain or the curing of disease, the pimps of the equation, taking their 20 percent off the top."”

“Maybe, but you are extremely premature in your assessment. Also, he doesn't need to expose himself to all this controversy, before he even takes office, unless he had a very good reason for it. Your "reason" is not reasonable at this time; Perhaps 2 or 3 years from now, yes, but not at this time. I take him at his word... he really is a centrist.. . a person that in his own life embodies conflicting races, conflicting values and yet has managed to transcend all of that and become a successful, integrated human being... something rare these days. And... something that many of you, conditioned as you are to the "sport mentality" of us against them, cannot understand and are struggling to fit it into a cubbyhole you're familiar with, demagogy!”
What's Not The Matter With Kansas: Kate Sheppard Talks To Governor Kathleen Sebelius

“This question that people keep asking, "Why do some HRC supporters won't support Obama?" is really very simple to answer: They are conditioned, as we are, to see everything as a sport contest! You don't switch teams to the opponent's team that just beat you... especially when you've managed to convince yourself that the referee stacked the game against you and your quarterback suffered career ending injuries caused by dirty play! They won't admit it, but they are just stuck in a pugilistic paradox... supporting Obama is paramount to abandoning all they fought for(their team) and admitting that he was the best candidate after all; not supporting him means abandoning their identity as progressives and switching side to teach him a lesson!”
KansasMamaforObama replied on Jul 12, 2008 at 12:55:56
“The team you speak of is the Democratic Party, not the Obama Party. If HRC's supporters cannot get on board with that, then it is best they do what they have to do.”

“What is it that you want? You can take any politician and build up an argument as to why they are not your best choice for president! The key word here is choice! First, I would say that General Election campaigning is infinitely more complicated that a local election where many "Personal" factors, associated with the individuals involved, become deal-breaking issues... this is true also in the primaries but it becomes less important in the GE.
Second, if the argument is that other politicians can win while leaning towards the left and "WHY NOT OBAMA"? I would ask you, why not Dennis Kucinich? There is absolutely no one out there more progressive and respectuful of the constitution than Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich and yet, where are they now? I am sorry, but this blogger you quote, Glenn Greenwald, is missing the point completely! The choice that we have RIGHT NOW is Between the Republican and the Democratic nominees for POTUS! It is good that we show others that we "know" the difference between straight talk and pandering but we need to focus on who the enemy is: Fear, Ignorance, Greed and Selfisheness!
Just do me a favor, let's wait and see who he picks for VP... that is something that is not being forced upon him like this FISA bill. It is a decision that he will hae to live for his full presidnecy, so wait and talk to me then!”

“For those still looking for a reason:
HE WANTS TO WIN!!!!
He has our vote... now he needs all the other centrist votes out there... do you forget that there are millions of voters out there were conditioned by FEAR to elect GWB twice!!! Do I like it? No, but unfortunately a Ron Paul or a Mike Gravel is NEVER going to make it this far! Don't be stupid, I've been thinking about this for sometime and there is no other way! The man is a brilliant politician, we need to trust him and pray that once he gets in... he will do the right thing and begin to change the system! Think about this... who really benefits from our internal bickering? Think about it, WHO?
We need to chill and do whatever we can not to hand over the WH to the Repugnants, if we do, there will be no constitution left to defend... just endless war and serfdom for all of us!”

“Yes, he wants to win. Just like in the primary, when he said whatever it took to get our votes, now he is saying whatever it takes to get independents, etc. Mr. O is just another politician who will say or do anything to win--and he thinks we are too dumb to figure out what he is doing.”

“How can we trust this man when we don't know what his true motives or goals are? I gave this guy a lot of money and it's starting to feel an awful lot like I got flim-flammed.
How many of us, including Obama, criticized Clinton -- "She'll do or say anything to get elected"
NOW you're saying that it's OK for Obama to do or say anything to get elected.
I think not.”

When McCain Drops Out
Commented Jun 17, 2008 at 13:06:39 in Politics
“The Republicans already decided that they f**ed up the country long enough to "almost' go to jail!!! They need the cleaning crew now to come and get rid of their mess! This article is total BS.... McCain is the sacrificial lamb... all you need to do is see how he got the nomination ... pretty much without any opposition! Unless some earthshaking event takes place between now and November, Obama will win in a landslide as expected! But when you think about what he's inheriting, it makes you wonder why he even wants it! LOL”

“If you underestimate the importance of the common touch and look instead at all these other excuses, then we are doomed to lose again in November! I am Hopeful that Sen. Obama is smarter than that... I think he gets it and is making the adjustments already! Watch him hit the comedy and day talk shows... and yes, he will do benefits to pay off Hillary's debt! He has to do it, he has to unite the party behind his theme of One America!”
McCain to Me in 1999: Bush "As Dumb as a Stump"
Commented May 10, 2008 at 11:22:06 in Politics
“Well, Mr. G. W. Bush's intelligence is/was not what got him elected twice.. it was his personalit y... he connected with the "common" men at a guttural level and that is something we Democrats don't seem to get! I mean, look at who we picked to run against him: Gore and Kerry, Two people who were totally cerebral and yes. for better or worse, perceived as Elitists! Mr. Obama(my candidate) must be extremely careful that this label doesn't stick to him... this must be his number one priority from this point on!
The way to use this against McCain is to point out that he embraced a man whom he knew to be a total waste just for political reasons... he even gave him the authority to commit our troops to a War for which there was not exit strategy.. . that shows that Sen. McCain's judgment can be compromised in the most important task that a president would have, taking us to War!”

“It was the image of the man as crafted by Karl Rove that got him elected. But that image was an illusion. Anyone who took the time to really look at GW's life and term as Governor could have seen through the image. But a lot of American's are shallow and like their news spoon-fed to them.”

“Gore won the popular vote. Bush's personality is snide, arrogant, and dim-witted. He elicits more "icks" from people than anyone I can ever remember. Anyone who has ever watched him long enough usually ends up saying he gives them the creeps. His personality factor was a farce created by Rove and Co.”

“You are a little paranoid! The article is about the fact that all power in this country occurs when people(groups) come together with a shared set of values so they can control their own destiny! Rev Wright gets this, The Jewish people got this a long time ago and what Obama wants to do is completely revolution ary... he wants to expand this concept to ALL of AMERICA!!! Don't be so narrow minded and understand that we have an opportunity here that does not come often!!!”
