“How can you say we have been dictatorial about the whole thing when everything we wanted has been removed from the bill to try to make the conservatives happy? Actually, I think the Repubs said in the very beginning that they wouldn't vote for it even if they got everything they wanted. Would you care to bet it still doesn't get any Repub votes even without any of the provisions the Dems have compromised out?”

“Exactly HOW is this bill going to reduce the cost of Health Care in this country? These Senators keep saying that, but they have dropped everything that might have controlled costs. The only thing I can see that's left is 30 million more customers for the insurance companies in exchange for not denying people because of pre-existing conditions or dropping people once they have the insurance. (Unless they can no longer afford to pay their premiums and choose to pay a small fine rather than buying insurance instead of food. This sucks.”

Senate Democrats Consider Nightmare Scenario On Health Care

“If we persist in the idiocy I am seeing from our congress on just about every issue they are dealing with, how can we expect the world to take us seriously about anything? Our two party system has undermined itself into total ineffectiveness. I have been an activist for many years, but what is there to be excited about these days? Nothing can get accomplished when all anyone seems able to do is argue against whatever the other party wants. I don't see how I can participate in this government when it does not have the best interest of the people of this country at heart and all that is being done is squabbling like kids in a sandbox. I am thoroughly disgusted.”

“Actually a better question would be "why is healthcare not affordable to most americans in the first place?" a better approach is to try and fix the root cause rather than simply send a bill to the government for what is obviously inflated insurance cost.
The government caused this problem by not allowing competition across state lines. In all 50 states, there is 1 dominant health insurer in each one. By not allowing a company in NY to sell a policy in CA you are restricting the market's ability to deliver a better product at a lower price.
Secondly the entire tax / economic structure resutling from our government's policies severely constricts job creation and economic growth because the progressive income tax, and the federal reserve system destroying the value of the money through inflation. This inhibits small businesses from getting working capital and expanding, which would create more jobs, which would create higher incomes.
Don't just look to the government with your hand out for someone else's money (which is all "health reform" legislation is- ask them to stop screwing everything up that's holding you back from supporting and feeding your family in the first place.”

TV SoundOff: Sunday Talking Heads

“I watched three of these Sunday morning news shows and in all three the hosts kept trying to get the Secretaries to make concrete statements about the exit strategy in Afghanistan. I got really irritated with all of them. You can't project anything concrete based on hypotheticals. They kept pushing and pushing for a definite in an indefinite context. It was as if the hosts were trying to get the officials to say something that they could throw back in their faces if things turn out differently than the plan. It reminds me of what they are doing with the unemployment issue. Back when he was trying to sell the stimulus, Obama stated a goal of keeping unemployment under around 8%, based on the best estimates of his advisors. Now that unemployment is at 10% everyone is screaming that he "promised" 8% and he didn't keep his "promise". There is a big difference between a hope or a goal and a promise. These hosts were pushing for the secretaries to say something that if things turn out differently than the President hopes and believes they will, the critics can rant about how he "promised" that we would leave in 2011, and he is going back on a "promise". I think the whole exercise in manipulation sucks, and these show hosts should be ashamed.”

“The "climategate" emails are irrelevant. Whether the planet is warming or cooling is not the main issue. The main issue is that we are polluting our planet. I don't think anyone can deny that. If we kill our oceans, pollute our water supply and deplete our aquifers, the only people who will survive are those who can adapt to poisoned drinking and irrigation water. As far as I can see it is a race between melting glaciers reducing the water supply that irrigates the world's food supplies and pollution and overextraction of our natural resources. Either way, it is unsustainable.”
