Collision: Is Religion Absurd or Good for the World?

Commented Oct 20, 2009 at 12:02:19 in Living

“yeah but Palin and co believe the universe is just a couple of years old. They seriously do take the God created everything in 7 days to be "gospel" truth ;-)”

“If He rested on the 7th day, how could He keep an eye on all of us on that 7th day? If He can't, then I think I'll go out and do some serious sinning on that day. Besides, Jezus died for us sinners, didn't he? LOL”

Collision: Is Religion Absurd or Good for the World?

Commented Oct 20, 2009 at 11:59:21 in Living

“Nothing wrong with religion per se.
The problem is with the nitwits who kill, steal, seduce, con and otherwise manipulate in the name of religion.

The televangelists preaching their "magic" through the tube (for a fee in form of donations / tithe) and the crazed fanatics willing to blow themselves and innocents up while eying a reward of 70 virgins in paradise (so morally wrong on so many levels let me not even go there..) both do great dis-service to religion and the role of belief systems in the human pysche.”

Tolby replied on Oct 20, 2009 at 12:21:47

“Your point is well taken...the Bible said there would be false prophets.”

TonyMbutu replied on Oct 20, 2009 at 12:18:01

“The fact that such people can "misuse" religion establishes what is wrong with religion, per se. I would go further, it is not relgion that is not the problem, it is the idea (and absurd glorification) of faith. Faith is ultimately the real disease.”

TanzaniaTeacher replied on Oct 20, 2009 at 12:10:33

“This may be semantics but, religion is in my opinion the root of all evil. Individual spirtuality, regardless of which "god" you choose to center it on, is okay. The first is a set of systems which seem by their very nature to abuse and use. The second is a means toward personal self-fulfillment and understanding. The pastor's argument that religion is the only means to beauty and goodness, is ridiculous at best, especially when considering as you have the horror that organized religion has rought through the centuries.”

“That's bcoz you'll assume the presidency of the USA is all powerful.
There are too many other opposing interests with a powerful Republican bloc that just can't be run rod shod over.

However I do concede that the president needs to take a definite stand on certain KEY issues. Health care reform has been one. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict another one where he needs to be more forceful in making the hardliners in Israel stop illegal colony expansion”

The Geithner-Summers Plan is Even Worse Than We Thought

The Geithner-Summers Plan is Even Worse Than We Thought

Commented Apr 07, 2009 at 02:25:19 in Business

“Excellent summary !

The issue at hand is that the Geithner-Bernanke-Summers team are guided by the over-riding notion that they are the knights in shining armour riding in to rescue the STOCK MARKET. I repeat the stock market, because American's pensions and savings are invested there. A noble venture if any, but naive to say the least. Secondly they propose this half-assed plan precisely to rescue the bondholders (again the pension schemes).

When government puts on its nanny gown and tries to manipulate the stock / financial markets - all it does is produce a temporary euphoria (aka bear market rally) and actually worsens the situation. In this case a worst case scenario of the FDIC being bankrupted and a total loss of confidence and collpase of the entire American banking system.

President Obama should urgently organise a round table with dissenting views and opinions - and a consensus should be reached, rather than going all-in with Geithner. It's one thing for the President to say the buck stops with him to deflect criticism of his Treasury Secretary, but the words should also hold water, and the President should ensure that he is getting all the input required.”

dobberdoss replied on Apr 07, 2009 at 05:57:55

“Your right abut one thing, Government should have just stayed right out of it and let the failed fall to their deaths, banks included. The mess would of been huge but it would of been over very quickly and those institutions that did the RIGHT things would of become the new banks. But no, the government decided to save the unsavable. Now we all will pay for this for 2 decades instead of 2 years.”

“It was disappointing that the Obama administration allowed itself to be beaten into submission by the Israel lobby / AIPAC and their supporters regarding the nomination of Chas Freeman. He would have been an honest and very valuable asset in his role.

Today the hardliners in Israel are that country's (and by default the USA's) own worst enemies and they should realise global opinion has turned against them in their treatment of defenceless civilians.

Like a parent to errant and rebellious children, the USA needs to be firm, in equal measure to both protagonists, the Israelis and Palestinians, to achieve peace in the Middle East and for the USA.

Seize this chance President Obama !”

“I'm also wondering about those e-mails. I get e-mails from the Obama campaign, Move On and various other organization and I have NOT been inundated with e-mails. Makes me wonder if this is another plot (for lack of a better word) by the Repugs. They were calling people claiming to be Move On, to tell them not to vote, as the lines would be too long. I also heard about an ad that told people, "Don't forget to vote on Nov. 5th."
AND why is Tracy Carol getting e-mails from both parties? It all sounds kinda fishy to me.

McCain said we would be in and out in a short time and be greeted like liberators. Also they claimed the "oil" would pay for the the war.

Hard to remember....this was 5,000 lies ago. We can't always keep up with all of his BS du jour. Anyway it got congress to pay for the onset of the war which is what McCain wanted, but it was hard to go back and ask for more.....it meant he would have to admit he was wrong....he was hoping we would forget...get a new democratic majority in the Senate and dump the problem on them which he did!

He's a creep!”
