Dud, Baby, Dud: The Lesson of Doug Hoffman

Dud, Baby, Dud: The Lesson of Doug Hoffman

Commented Nov 04, 2009 at 17:58:47 in New York

“Michael Steele says they have a tent big enough for everyone who agrees with their core principals! Aren't their core principals the same as the teabaggers?

I really hope they challenge all the moderate republicans in 2010 with primaries and the teabaggers win. They can't win a statewide election! But the teabaggers (i.e. Beck, Rush, Hannity, Fox, et al) are so arrogant that they know what needs to be done to win elections!

Think about it. If Rush and friends knew how to win an election, they wouldn't have lost in 2006, 2008!

When something doesn't work for these people, they just yell crazier and louder!”

“That's it in a nutshell. Deeds ran a bad campaign -- and if the repubs think about it, he came out against the public option. He ran more to the right and he lost. The democrats that ran a liberal campaign won their congressional seats!

And it's two more votes for the democrats!”

“That is the point exactly. The rightwing conservatives are throwing out the moderates, and dividing the votes, so that democrats can get elected in these districts! I think this election had less to do with Obama than had to do with the Palins, Pawlentys, Limbaughs, Becks, and Hannitys!

The fact is they continue to brag about their ratings, but ratings do not win elections. If democrats do what we voted them into office, republicans know they have little chance of gaining the majority again or the white house!”

“If NJ and Virginia are a complete repudiation of President Obama, does that mean that NY 23 is a complete repudiation of Palin, Rush, and Faux?

Or is this election meaningless even though governors won't be voting on health care reform?

Wouldn't it be funny if we passed health care reform with a public option by two votes?”

“These blue dogs are actually listening to what their constituents want and they are voting on behalf of their constituents. I don't understand how the congressman and senators think that if they vote against what the majority of their constituents want them to vote, they will be re-elected. They are tone-deaf -- or bought off. That's the only thing people can think if they vote against the people!”

Solja replied on Oct 13, 2009 at 16:12:31

“People like Baucus bend towards corporations because he gets the bulk of his money from t hem. He has a small constituency and they don't donate enough to him for him to campaign, let alone survive a contender. So he actually works for who sent him to Congress, ie corporate interests.

Representatives in that predicament don't really care what their constituents are saying because in the next election, those people won't be donating to him, and therefore, he doesn't represent them. Money talks, and it gets people elected.”

“Which bill are your referring to? 4 of 5 bills in the senate have public options in them. The finance committee bill is the only one that doesn't. They will all now have to be merged together for a final bill. There are too many members of the house who have said they won't vote for a bill without a public option -- nothing will pass without a public option from what I can see.”

Vxx replied on Oct 08, 2009 at 13:05:03

“The concern I have is too many bills can SAY "public option" but have very little to do with a public option as Joe Average visualizes it. How many bills have we seen over the last decade or two that had banner names and titles that were the antithesis of the fine print?”

desktop replied on Oct 08, 2009 at 11:28:13

“The final bill is all that matters and the Bacaus bill is still getting pushed as the billof choice, which is no reform at all. The finance committee will vote again on no public option next week. More compromises on triggers for public option and public option only for very low income people are further efforts to derail strong public option. Obama and many democrats are far to willing to compromise.”

“You are wrong on so many levels. Part of the problem with the cost of health care is when an individual has no insurance, he cannot go to a doctor's office, because it can cost $500 or more by the time you're done with everything. So they wait. they wait until it is so bad, they end up in the emergency room, and sometimes even being admitted to the hospital. Because they have no insurance, the bill is too big to pay. They end up either not paying or going bankrupt, and the hospital has to make up that money some way. We are all paying $1,000+ a year to pay for those people who cannot pay for health care.

In addition, doctors are not rewarded for approximately 40% of the denied claims. In fact, it costs doctors more because they have to employ more people to fight the insurance companies for denied claims. Insurance raising the price of their premiums directly correlates to the raising of the executive's salary going up. They are making ungodly amounts of money, and even have given bonuses to employees that find ways to deny claims and cancel policies of those people who get sick. when these people are canceled, someone has to pay the bill that they can't afford, so again, hospitals, doctors, etc pad their bill to paying customers in order to make up for the loss!”

“He has his freedom of speech and we also have our freedom to boycott CNN. That is freedom of speech. Dobbs certainly has his freedom to say whatever he wants to say, but he has no protection from listeners to boycott. There is no law that protects people and gives them a microphone to give their opinions.

People have the right to turn off CNN -- you don't really understand freedom of speech if you believe that listeners have the right to boycott!”

“"I can honestly say that America right now, on the ides of September 2009, feels more racial, at least to me, today than it has any time in a generation"

I don't think it's more racial, I think it's just that it's more visual -- that is that those bi gots used to pretend to be "tolerant," they can no longer contain their anger that there is a bl ack man in the white house. Their fear that minorities may be given the equal rights they should already have is driving them to become more and more vocal, because they know they are now the minority, and they fear that they won't get that job because a black woman may be more qualified for the position, and being white won't help them.

These people are worried about a level playing field, because of their ignorance. They know that now they will have to compete with intelligent minorities for a job, etc. Judging by how educationally challenged they are, they won't rise to the competition.”

They have no intention of working with democrats for the good of the people. And we've seen this behavior get worse because it's being ignored. UnitedHealth Lobbyist Announces Pelosi Fundraiser As She Begins Backing Off Pub Option

Commented Sep 13, 2009 at 17:59:44 in Politics

“A mandate without a public option will result in people paying the fine, because it will still be cheaper to pay the fine and go without health care than to give our money to the very industry who drove the cost of health care up. We have health insurance through my husband's job, but I can tell you that if we didn't, we sure as he11 would not give a dime to the insurance industry. They won't be getting the huge increase in profits that they think, because people still won't be able to afford their premiums that will continue to go up without any real competition.

If the democrats truly believe that they can fool the people into believing that they passed reform that helped the people and weren't bought off, they have another thing coming. They watered down credit card reform, they took out cram-down, they are destroying health care reform, and they will never pass any legislation governing Wall Street that is meaningful or helps Joe Blow on the street.

My husband and I have been seriously thinking about looking into moving out of this country, and not because we have a black president, but because we have a president who hasn't done one thing that he promised in order to get us to vote for him.”

ignorethewackos replied on Sep 13, 2009 at 18:31:20

“Do you think that the president is a king? That he can unilaterally do all of these things? He can't pass legislation all by himself. Don't just blame the president. He is facing some serious challenges. That said, I've about had enough of this country too. It's increasingly obvious that the country is owned by large corporations. And I'm totally sick of it. Screw healthcare and all of this other stuff. Until we deal with campaign finance reform and all of these corporate donations that ultimately determine what gets passed and what doesn't get passed, we should just tell congress to go on a break becaue nothing meaningful will get done.”

Why Health Insurance Reform Will Pass This Fall -- It's the High Political Ground

Commented Sep 03, 2009 at 19:00:37 in Politics

“When reform is passed with a public option, the republicans realize that they are done for years to come, just like they were done after the democrats passed Medicare!

And that's what they're afraid of -- they just have you hoodwinked into believing that this is a bad idea, but they said the same thing about Medicare -- and now seniors will say over and over again -- don't touch my Medicare! People will be saying that about the public option too!”
