Copenhagen Climate Change Marathon: Leaders and Lawmakers Negotiate in the Final Hours

“Free? Free? Freedom to do what? To live out your life as if you are the only human who matters and to hell with everything and everybody else?
All rich countries are not capitalist. You forgot China, for one. And all poor countries aren't either dictatorships or socialist. You've no doubt noticed that the U.S. always seems to support with money, arms, or whatever, countries with dictators, especially if that country has oil or another resource we want (i.e., tungsten, South Vietnam). Remember that hideous 10-year old war for "freedom," and "to keep all of Southeast Asia free from Communism. " We killed about 5 million Vietnamese with bombs, bullets and horrific, DNA damaging chemicals, and untold thousands of Cambodians (pre-Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, who killed about 2 million Cambodians in his quest to make Cambodia the Rice Capitol of Asia).
Socialism? Britain has socialized medicine. I've not heard of the British government treating its citizens as would a dictator. Medicare is socialism but the Tea Baggers, who want to be FREE, don't want the government to touch it.
Capitalism? You're undoubtedly aware that capitalism is built on exploitation of natural resources combined with private ownership and to hell with rules on pollution of the air, poisoning of the waters poisoning of the soil Since the world's natural resources are rapidly being depleted, polluted and poisoned and for humans to continue to exist on Mother Earth then capitalism will and must be changed.”

“This Afghanistan debacle, just like Vietnam, has already expanded into Pakistan. Who's next? Iran? We'd love for the Iranians to "pull a stunt"--it won't matter if the "stunt" really happened (a la Tonkin Gulf) just so's we'd have an excuse to launch a massive attack . Our intent, I believe, is to dominate, control, by any means possible, Middle East oil. There should be no doubt in any American's mind as to U.S. intentions.
Thus the mind of Orwell Barack Obama and his government, in collusion with Congress, is revealed.”

I've been raging at our leaders and politicians for years regarding this 'cause I'd much prefer that we follow the ol' Boy Scout motto: Be Prepared. Begin making preparations 30 years ago to make the "transition" as easy and smooth as possible. But our leaders have not made plans, that I'm aware of, for the "transitio n." “Indeed, this pattern of procrastin ation---by the world's governments---will result in a jarring change when the existential threat is fully upon us. It is timely that a film out now, "The Road", (based on Cormac McCarthy's brilliant novel) addresses the kind of world that could result.

Chavez Spurs Fears Of Venezuelan Banking Meltdown

“Wouldn't you be arming yourselves also if the baddest dude on the planet is massing arms, equipment ( military and technical) in Colombia, just next door. Additionally, there's a sizeable and powerful naval force belonging to that bad dude lurking just off your coast. And, if that weren't enough the bad dude is also arming the Honduran military forces, which, as you know, recently ousted a democratically elected president. Obviously the Honduran armed forces will or could potentially be used in the future war 'gainst Chavez and the Venezuelan armed forces.
The bad dude wants the Venezuelan oil and means to get it, one way or another.
Now, who is destabilizing South America?
One shouldn't forget that the bad dude once, some years back, invaded Vietnam for fear of Communism. This invasion had the effect of destabilizing the whole region fo Southeast Asia. Remember "The Killing Fields?"
So, now the bad dude has to worry and be afraid, be very afraid of Communism in Central and South America and Terrorism in the Middle East and is spending prodigious amounts of money, which it doesn't have, in combatting those two "isms" with all its might.
Meanwhile, within the territory of the bad dude, conditions are rapidly deteriorating. The bad dude's government only has money for banks, corporations and its military adventures. None for its people, "We can't afford it" it says. The people have only perpetual war to look forward to.”

“Tenstring is exactly right. I'm surprised that such a claim hasn't, before now, made public. You'd think that with all the high-powered satellites we've got whirling 'round the Earth that we'd be able to spot someone 6' 4" tall and on a dialysis machine, but, and very conveniently too, no!
And justice for the perpetrators of this deception and manipulation of the nation has been deliberately locked away and ought of sight. And we were thinking the present administration could multi-task.
Tonight President Obama, surrounded by the future officer corps of the Army who're being trained to protect the interests of the declining and bankrupt empire, will speak to the entire Nation about his decision to send some 30,000 additional troops to that cemetary of empires, Afghanistan.
You'd think Obama would know better than to pursue this course into the abyss of flaming, corrupt, deadly, wasteful Afghanistan, but, alas, you thought wrong.

“The Chinese are literally "eating" everything in their country. They, like us, are poisoning their streams, their air and their soil. You cannot "eat" and/or poison everything in your country indefinitely, without collapsing. You cannot continue adding millions of new humans every day to a planet of an ever increasingly and rapidly shrinking base of natural resources. And, to top it all is the looming Global Warming and Energy Descent. Now ain't all that a pickle of a problem? Everything else is just prattle.”

“Never mentioned by anyone (I suspect intentionally) are acutely salient facts regarding all this: namely, that there were intentionally too few regulators, or that regulators were made intentionally powerless by law, or that regulations themselves had been rescinded or "de-regulated" by Congress, or regulators being ordered to "lay off" by supervisors, "bosses" (Chris Cox comes to mind) who got their marching orders directly from the Oval Office, who of course, got their orders from Wall Street. All that legislation and those regulations resulted from the Great Depression went for nothing. And the perpetrators of this debacle are not daily excoriated in the press nor do any of them appear to be facing any prison time.”

“Kassandra, you're exactly right. This whole process leads me to believe that most Democrats certainly don't want single payer and they don't really want any so-called robust public option. So you have the whole kit and kaboodle blowing smoke and arranging their mirrors to best blind the American people whilst jingling their thirty pieces of silver. If the Democrats really wanted any health reform they'd have called their supporting masses to Washington, D. C. and bade them pound doors and shove aside the thousands of lobbyists. “But this is now. One thing about the Fascists is that they never quit. And this should be a profound lesson for progressives. Progressives should have been in the streets months ago but should be to be hitting the streets now, in the millions, and stay in the streets (especially in Washington, D.C.) until the Congress passes the bills that are wanted by the majority of Americans and required by the planet (the Energy Bill). The professional politicians and their corporate bosses need to be daily, hourly shown that the majority of Americans have had enough and that it's time to "put th' skeer into 'em" to quote Nathan Bedford Forrest. And one has to ask: Where are the Democrats? Why are they not urging their supporters into the streets? And where is silver-tongued Obama and his "Cross of Gold" speech that rouses his adoring fans into the public thoroughfares to show the Congress what Americans want and what Holy Mother America needs?”
