“Let's be honest, the personal attacks from the far righ affected Obama. I think he felt compelled to prove them wrong by showing a willingness to compromise, and he played into their hands. He didn't want to appear overbearing, and ignored their primary goal of bringing him down. I firmly believe that the Republicans are so confident that the anti-Obama sentiment in their party can carry the day for them that they don't have to compromise or do anything but oppose the President. I hope it's not too late for him to turn things around.”

Obama seems like the sort of man who genuinely believes that most problems can be solved by sitting down together with those who oppose you, and to work out a compromise. He is not a man with a quick temper; no, he seems to have a very long fuse.

(Jim DeMint declaring that defeating health care reform was the best way to 'bring down Obama' might have been a clue!).
