2010: Twenty-Ten, Not Two-Thousand-And-Ten

Commented Dec 31, 2009 at 14:57:48 in Technology

“Sheer laziness. I'm sticking with Two thousand ten. Sounds much nicer, and rolls easily and pleasingly off the tongue.”

“More crap towards the paying consumer... Maybe now I won't be the only one in my family who protests air travel. I'm just lucky I flew early enough yesterday that the security people were yawning along with us and hurried us through our lines (and yes, they did ask me to show the back of my neck since my hair was down). Full security, done efficiently and well. Is that so much to ask for?”

“I hope you're right. But I fear it might continue the other way -- our great grandchildren will have to fly handcuffed to their seats.”

Avatar Reviews: Movie PRAISED In First Impressions As 'Imaginative, Absorbing'

Commented Dec 20, 2009 at 23:57:02 in Entertainment

“I wouldn't really call those good reviews. I'd say they're praising the new technology, NOT the merits of the movie itself. And make no mistake, this is a MOVIE, not a FILM. There's a marked difference!”

seatech1 replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 00:46:16

“I saw it and it's a great movie, film, story, screenplay, and anything else you want to call it. I went in not expecting too much and was completely impressed. It wasn't just the technology that impressed me. It was the heartfelt acting of the people involved, and it did not take me very long to forget that any of it was computer generated.
I'm not easily "wowed" by any movie, but this one did it for me.”

Weekend Box Office Review: Avatar Defies Skeptics and Snowstorms, Earns $77 Million in Debut Weekend

Commented Dec 20, 2009 at 23:28:25 in Entertainment

“I like movies with GOOD dialogue and a STRONG, SMART plot, not some story that's completely clichéd and totally washed up with boring lines that are forgettable. Simple as that.

I admit that the Na'vi language is cool, and the effects are great, but the STORY being told, and the DIALOGUE used is MORE important than the new effects being used!”

“Yeah. This proves once again that "shiny and new" wins over decent dialogue and a strong story (neither of which are part of this POS.

When I go to the movies, I expect to be entertained by good actors, not some new technology that makes the fake look real.”
