Parentless Parents: How To Be A Parent Without Your Own
Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 13:54:04 in Living
“I can tell you having lost both parents before I was through jr. high, that losing parents as a child is much, MUCH worse than losing them as an adult. Fill the hole their loss leaves by being a good parent and be thankful for the time you had with them.
Sorry, I know how painful it is to be an orphan. It's just not the same after you're an adult. Not the same at all.”

“Is this fair? You can't really expect him to be able to do everything in such a short amount of time. It took Bush 8 years to screw things up this badly. It's magical thinking to believe that everything was going to go exactly as you'd like it to. Why must everything always be so negative?”

“It's fair to examine the course taken, thus far. I do not think that people expect everything to be magically "fixed" a year later. I do think people are upset by the path this Administration has taken, to date.
The stimulus was nothing more than the taxpayers loaning money to the crooks who created the problem. The fact that those crooks are finding new ways to exploit, and profit from the further misery of the taxpayer (i.e. the American worker) is deeply disturbing. Clearly, the history books are wide open as to how President Obama will ultimately be judged on the economy. Who was did President Obama put in charge of the crisis? Two retreads that helped create the circumstances: Geithner & Summers.
Similarly, health care "reform" to date, seems such a compromise that the only people that serve to gain from it's passage, will be the big insurance companies.”

He and the Republicans don't want honest, civil debate and argument about the issues based on hard evidence. They want to smear, shout, accuse, talk-over, interrupt, pontificate, blather, and engage in the nastiest, stupidest kind of ugly politics just to make as much noise as possible so that no real discussion of the issues ever occurs. What I heard mostly from this clip was Chuch Norris, not Arianna Huffington.”

“I have teenagers. I understand the temptation to believe heart and soul that your kids won't have sex too soon. But that's not always what happens and pretending that only kids who don't wear promise rings or take purity pledges are the only ones having sex. The truth is that these kids are a higher risk for unplanned pregnancies and STD's. Home schooling and church groups won't stop them from being human and having libidos and emotions. I'm mystified by it. These parents are the same age I am and, try as I might, I don't remember all this emphasis on purity from back in the day. I always want to tell them, "don't worry, honey, she won't do anything you didn't do at her age." For some reason, they're always real quiet after I say that.”
"Bush & McCain & Pray for Rain"
Commented Aug 31, 2008 at 08:31:22 in Politics
“The more irrelevent James Dobson becomes, the meaner he gets. How can praying for nature to make a political point be categorized as good Christian behavior? I wish that Focus on the Family's flock would get the Moral Outrage Stick out of its butt and use some of their religious passion for helping and loving their fellow man.
As it turned out, the Denver weather was beautiful for the Democratic convention while a Stage 5 hurricane threatens the gulf coast just in time to make a political point of its own for the Republicans. I for one celebrate the Lord's use of a good old fashioned bitch slap in answer to frivilous and mean-spirited 'prayers'. I don't wish for any more suffering for the people who live along the gulf coast, but I can't help but think that God is telling Dobson and his ilk this: HA, HA, HA.”

“What exactly does 'acting white' mean? Why don't we all just boycott Tobey Keith? Oh, I forgot, if we don't buy his crappy albums, the terrorists win.”
VSamuels replied on Aug 06, 2008 at 10:43:04
“The exact meaning of 'acting white' was firmly cemented in the psyche of both blacks and whites in America over a long period of time during slavery and after slavery ended. It began as whites further used the notion of 'white superiority' and hammered home that there were expected behaviors that they the ones with power, authority and weapons were allowed to behave and act in society and there were expected behaviors that non-whites were allowed to behave and act in society. While much omission and commission of lies underpinning 'white racism' has been swept under the rug---as many apologists pretend or simply do not understand the communication systems they developed and what they wrought---the legacies of the sentiments are still held on to today by many who accept these sorts of things.
Non-whites then self-policed themselves by accusing fellow non-whites of 'acting white' who choose education as a way out of poverty and conversely whites' mocked them for acting when for achieving success that they accepted was chiefly their domain. Perhaps, if there wasn't a equal force of white politicians and social commentators fighting against a honest dialogue during the Civil Rights movement, these sorts of things would have been brought out in the open and dealt with and put behind us. But, unfortunately it did not occur and we now are watching the sentiments play out; the sames ones birthed centuries ago in first justifying slavery and racism.”

guntotinganglion replied on Jul 29, 2008 at 12:21:19
“Nader never messed up any elections. ..the Democrats did that on their own. How one loses to an anti-intellectual zealot like George W. Bush, TWICE, is beyond me...but no one can truthfully blame Ralph Nader for trying to establish something other than the so called two party system that has polluted this country. There's no substantive difference between Democrats and Republicans, and the only way to break their hammerlock on the Presidency, is to vote third, fourth and fifth party candidates. We'll never see an end to the two party system if we don't do this. And if the two party system continues, the only choices will remain the lesser of two evils.
And as to what Ralph does exactly, well, originally he was known as a consumer advocate, which means he fought tirelessly for the little guy, against the entrenched oligarchists who have controlled this country for so incredibly long. This is his real legacy.
What I get, voting for Ralph Nader is not having to fill a barf bag after leaving the voting booth. What I get in voting for Ralph is the knowledge that I am voting for a good man who doesn't lie, and who doesn't pander to special interests, lobbyists or corporate socialists ...like the mainstream politicians do. What I get is a good feeling that I've finally voted for someone I would like to be President, rather than voting for one to keep another from taking the office.
Vote Nader 2008”
