Crimes Against the Soul of America

Commented Sep 06, 2009 at 22:16:42 in Living

“It's starting to look like a giant, sick, dysfunctional marriage. Republicans keep saying that they love America, and yet they continue to abuse it, usually for personal gain. And many Americans take the abuse, cowering in their own homes, because it's all they've known for so long, and they're afraid of finally standing up and demanding respect.”

brooklyncitizen replied on Sep 07, 2009 at 16:43:56

“Well of course it's a dysfunctional family. We had a an alcoholic POTUS for 8 years and the American public, the media, the military, Congress(Republican and Democrats) and corporations were all enablers and co-dependent.The Alcoholic Dysfunction got played out on a macro level we should all be doing 12 steps with Alanon to recover.”

Emotional Health In Down Times: 5 Steps To Staying Positive And Productive

“The key is positive thoughts + ACTIONS. I think we forget the second part too often. You can wish for something all day long, but if you aren't doing everything in your power to bring that wish to life, it won't happen.”

Cynde replied on Aug 27, 2009 at 15:09:33

“You brought up a very good point. To live your dreams, you actually have to live life and play the game of life the best you can. Action gets you somewhere. Sitting in a corner sucking your thumb keeps you stuck.”

Ted Kennedy: Health Care Reform Is the "Cause of My Life"

Commented Aug 26, 2009 at 12:44:25 in Politics

“As sad as his death is, especially at this point, I think that his passing will help move along a STRONG reform bill. Let's be honest: Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle now have the eyes of the nation on them. Will they honor Sen. Kennedy's memory, or will they toss his work aside for further political/financial gain? We'll see...”

brt929 replied on Aug 26, 2009 at 21:34:04

“His death means that more than likely they will pass a watered down bill.

I'm guessing the public option will be totally dead soon.”

MJ's Story Highlights Ease of Getting Prescriptions

“I wasn't aware that individuals could get "prescriptions" for anesthesia. Oh, that's right, they can't. Nor can one becom "addicted" to anesthesia.

Had MJ died of a prescription drug overdose, this article would be more relevant. While you are correct that we should raise awareness of prescription abuse, prescription abuse is not what ended MJ's life on June 25.”

“I've been "imagining the worst" for almost a year now, and things have gotten pretty bad. But I *think* I've bottomed out. The stress is, I'm sure, a national epidemic, and we all need to learn how to manage it if we want to maintain our health after the financial crisis is over.”

My (Ongoing) Beef with Chipotle

Commented Aug 09, 2009 at 19:58:14 in Green

“I used to love going to Chipotle for a veggie burrito with the works...until I found out the true calorie, sodium, and fat content. You'd think that something made with all natural, fresh ingredients would be healthy. But 1200 calories?! That hurt my feelings.”

RNC Video Diary: African-American Republicans Weigh in on Obama

Commented Sep 03, 2008 at 23:48:39 in Politics

“If I were a Black Republican in this day and age, at this convention, especially after tonight's borderline hateful derision and dismissal of inner city community organizers, I would be ashamed to show my face on camera.”

Liveblogging The Republican Convention - Day Two

Liveblogging The Republican Convention - Day Two

Commented Sep 02, 2008 at 23:30:15 in Politics

“My thoughts from earlier this evening:

I'm watching the RNC convention, and I'm struck by how, flat, sterilized and...numb everything seems. Its almost unsettling in comparison to last week's events.

Some people in the media will blame the storm, but really, the weather would have no affect on this group. First of all, the color scheme is too repetitive. Its putting me in a trance...Waving flag is omnipresent on the screen behind the stage. Seats are all red, people are (almost) all white. Blue McCain signs. Everyone is wearing flag colors, flag pins, and flag buttons. Yet with all the bright red on the screen, the room seems eerily bloodless. No detectable pulse.

Everyone stands in unison and applauds enthusiastically, no matter how bland the speaker or presentation is. They all buzz like machines when shown a reactionary images (Bush Sr., Ground Zero, republican politicians from yester-century, 911, POW...) then fall silent again. No one looks happy. They're smiling, but its a stiff smile-for-the-camera smile.

I almost feel like I'm in a hospital, on the intensive care floor where everything is quiet and cautionary. I can almost feel the morphine drip into these people's veins. There are no surprises, no "spicy food," no uninvited visitors.

I think the tale of the night was shown in a yellow sign one woman held up to the camera. It said "Pennsylvania for McCain: We're not 'better.'"

At least they can admit it.”

JimCarlile replied on Sep 02, 2008 at 23:49:16

“This whole thing is baffling, yes. I'm a little confused about something, too

Exactly when did Vietnam become a noble war? This seems to be the received MSM opinion, but if anyone had tried to cop this attitude in, say, 1980, they would have been laughed at.

When did this happen? And why are non-veterans always the ones who extoll the virtues of military service?”
Palin Almost Recalled As Mayor

Palin Almost Recalled As Mayor

Commented Sep 01, 2008 at 20:23:50 in Politics

“THESE are the kinds of stories we need to be looking at regarding this woman. This is becoming more obvious every minute: McCain knew very little about her, and is using Palin as a political pawn only. Unfortunately for the Obama campaign, they can't go after her hypocracy or the hypocracy of the entire McCain campaign without looking like whiners, and possibly having the same "unfit to lead" arguments parroted back in their faces (as inaccurate as those claims might be.)

The thing is, in an idea world, we wouldn't have to worry about promoting these stories because an informed public would see this camp for what it is, and vote against it. But this year, as hopeful as I am about America finally waking up, I'm still not convinced that the Repubs, even in their current form, can't sneak their way back into the White House.”
