“In mostly rural Iowa, we absolutely got our margins from the towns and cities. For the most part that's where the Democrats live. It's also a lot more efficient to go door to door, when the doors are 50 feet apart than when you've got to drive down a gravel road past a "trespassers will be shot" sign. But we did our best to knock every door.”

“Why do you need to go door-to-door? You don't have tv?
'Trespassers will be shot' . . . ah, the lovely rural folks . . . inbreds”
“When this sort of thing happens in business, they don't fire the system developers or project manager. Instead, they make them work 7x24 to fix it. Why? Because otherwise no one in their right mind would take on a project of this scope. This system is all about interfaces and that is hard, detailed, very unglamorous stuff. It had a fixed due date, so they needed to avoid scope creep and pare it down to something that could be accomplished in time. However, I'm sure that in the political arena, saying "no" was probably something that could get a person fired.”
