“And those germ-laden, finger-printed, thick books are prone to clutter up air-plane seat pockets, waiting rooms, cruise ship libraries, "Friends of Library "book sale bins, shelves of loved ones.
Whereas books, once read electronically, can disappear, clean as a cremation, into their little electronic tomb stones.”

“Sorry, Arianna, you are wrong on this one. This is not a good time for what could appear a dramatic, stagey, self-aggrandizing, devisive tactic. I can't see who benefits.
Surely it is better to have V.P. Biden at the president's elbow, offering thoughtful advice, and to have Presiden Obama respect V.P. Biden's opinions.
I feel we are better served with intelligent contrasting opinions, than some Grand Gesture.”

“So maybe one of the problems with women is that we rely on men to tell us what we're dong wrong.”

slaxx replied on Sep 18, 2009 at 22:00:33

“you shouldn't rely on anyone to tell you what you should or should not be doing. so, yes, you might be right. afterall, men were always the experts - the psychologists, the doctors, etc. they supposedly knew more about us than we did ourselves.”

“I've also noticed this. Her face is less tense. I've not been ner biggest fan, but am very glad to see how she seems to fit well in her new assignment.
I'm sure people will make snide remarks about the brooches, but I find them humanizing, and interesting, as I did Madeline Albright's.
It's true we tend to be more critical of a woman's appearance as opposed to a man's. Some of this is because a woman has a wider latitude of choices, and therefore reveals more. I don't like double standards, but I do celebrate a woman's ability to express herself in colors and styles.
So I guess that's my double standard.”

Stop the Music

Commented Apr 20, 2009 at 15:32:12 in Entertainment

“Ms. Ephron's comments are clearly from the "Christopher Hitchens' I'm Way Too Cool To Like Anything You Do" School of Journalism.
No, the music from "Les Miz" ain't Puccini, nor is it German leider, nor Gershwin, nor Dylan.
But the song was in a good range for Susan Boyle and appropriate to the occasion and her audience. Both Ephron and Hitchens seem unable to open to any part of themselves that let's one's guard down
and enjoys an unscripted, unsophisitcated moment of just plain old fun.”

Why Susan Boyle Makes Us Cry

Why Susan Boyle Makes Us Cry

Commented Apr 16, 2009 at 20:14:03 in Entertainment

“In addition to the other obvious reasons we get misty-eyed, I.e. the Cinderella story, fairy tale we all secretly wish to be part of, I am also touched by the softening of the faces of the judges, which I don't think could be faked.
And I think I, and I suppose many, have been more affected by the tensions of the world, the economic crisis, the piracy, the nuclear worries, than we have even realized.
So, surprisingly, a story takes place that sneaks into our cynical, worried, for lack of a better word, hearts, and makes us, let's face it, happy.”

What Went Wrong With Feminists?

Commented Apr 07, 2009 at 13:01:00 in Politics

“Talk about blaming the victims!
Women who identified as "Feminists" were insulted by men, and other insecure women, at the core of their being--as being cruel, unfemine, ugly, unlovable. No wonder younger women kept repeating, "I'm not a feminist. . ." (Does anything threaten a male more than being accused of "not being man enough?"
Ths Black man is blaming white women for not supporting Black women enough. Please look in the mirror, sir! We all, black and white, need your help, support, thoughtfulness to work on these problems. Not your scorn.”

I am simply saying that to those much is given much is expected. The women of NOW stopped or got tired too soon. There was much more to be done; much is waiting to be done. I am not accusing anyone, merely exhorting all to re-engage and to rededicate ourselves again to the bettering of our poor - black, white, brown, etc.

Our potential as humans is amazing and we need to use it.

Thanks.
