“Anyone who has been paying any attention to the "relationship" between Tiger Woods and the black community would know that there has never been one. Tiger has never been seen as a role model for blacks and has chosen not to have any relations with the black community. Which is perfectly fine with me and his decision on top of that. I just find it funny how all these years he's been Cablinasion, mixed, of different heritages, but now that he's found screwing around on his white wife x12+ he's suddenly "Black"
Obama obviously didn't think he'd force anything. Seeing how he's barely been advocating or defending any type of specific health care proposal to begin with. He's pretty much just told the Congress and the Senate to get whatever they can so they can stick the reform label on it and call it a day. He's never publicly come out in favor of single option, the public option, medicare buy in (post election anyway) so what exactly is he trying to force? He hasn't forced, pressured, or threatened anyone to do anything.
And my last question would be why are two completely different individuals who have absolutely nothing to do with each other being compared simply because they're part black?? I didn't see anyone comparing Bush's screw ups with Brad Pitt cheating on Jennifer Aniston with Angelina. Racist or not (and I'm leaning towards racist) this article was idiotic.”

“I'm not saying that whites do not have to deal with cops on ego trips but as I stated before look at the statistics. Look at the rates of blacks/latinos who are pulled over compared to whites. Look at the rates of blacks/latinos in prison for drug offenses compared to whites. Look at the sentence disparities between blacks/latinos compared to whites for the same crimes committed in the same jurisdictions. There is PLENTY of evidence that when it comes to law enforcement and the judicial and justice system in this country period it is VERY unequal along racial lines. Who's to say your situations wouldn't have been even worse had you been black?”

“Driving while black is always a worry. I remember a few years back I was pulled over because my left headlight was out. While the officer was running my information I went to the front of my car to look at my lights and gave it a hard wrap with my knuckles and it came right on. At this point the officer should have let me go right? Uhh no. Wrong. He then precedes to ask me a bunch of irrelevant questions.
"What are you doing in this neighborhood?"
Umm I live down the street.
"Says here you're supposed to be wearing glasses. Why aren't you wearing glasses?"
....I have my contacts in (officer proceeds to shine flashlight in my eyes to verify)
"Where you headed tonight??"
The level of denial that some people in this country have when it comes to racial profiling is beyond ridiculous. Especially looking at the statistics alone that show blacks and latinos are MUCH more likely to be pulled over by the police even though statistically whites are usually twice as likely as blacks or latinos to be committing a crime when pulled over (usually drug related).
Every time I hear people go on about how "post racial" we are or how they're "color blind" i want to scream.”

The Challenges to Black Media Under President Obama
Commented Mar 31, 2009 at 16:31:13 in Media
“If Obama was Joe from Idaho or a janitor from Chicago most people would consider him black. Ask biracial blacks in this country how they are treated and regarded and they'll tell you they are treated and identified as black.
The only time non-blacks seem to want to focus on the "other" side of a black individuals heritage is when they achieve something worthy of national/i nternation al attention. Barack Obama, Hines Ward, Tiger Woods, etc I've seen plenty of celebrities who are "black" when they're relatively unknown and unpopular and suddenly "bi-racial"/"Half black-half this"/"Not really black" when they become known. I've seen PLENTY of examples of everyday bi-racials who are treated and regarded as black no matter what they label themselves.
It's the one-drop rule. Which most Americans are more than willing to live by and accept (as they have for the past century or so without voicing a complaint or even interest) except when it comes to individuals like Obama. THEN we have to acknowledge him as "part-white" and "biracial".
I have no problem with biracial blacks being identified with or identifying themselves as biracial. I just think it's disingenuous how most biracial blacks in this country are regarded and treated as "black" without second thought, yet when it comes to Obama all of the sudden whites want to act like they're racially aware (and ironically coming off as even more clueless than before in the process)”

Black AIDS Day
Commented Feb 06, 2009 at 10:51:46 in Politics
“You hit the nail on the head. Personally I think the "DL gay black man" while an issue is seriously overblown in the black community. At the same time however the rampant homophobia in the black community plays a heavy role in the predicament. We pretty much attack and vilify black homosexuals and chase them into the closet, denying them the right to marry, I won't even tell you how the black church treats and preaches about homosexuals (and please I don't want to hear anyone coming here talking about the gay black man in the choir everyone knows and loves. You know good and well if your son or daughter came home and said they were gay they'd be lucky to not get disowned on the spot).
Now the bigger issue I think is unsafe sex practices by the black community. I know there are some people out there who have some pretty warped ideas about how you can and can't get AIDS. At the same time however I've know plenty of blacks (this goes for people in general but the focus is on the black community so I'll stick with that) who know all the risks and pitfalls that come with unsafe or unprotected sex yet engage in it anyway. And that's male and female.
I'm definitely more for education regarding safe sex but I also think some values are going to need to be instilled by the parents regarding safe safe.

The Latest in College Dating Trends: Serial Monogamy or Bust!
Commented Feb 01, 2009 at 23:49:36 in Style
“I think too many people think that Dating Trend "A" works for everyone or Dating Trend "B" works for everyone. Not accepting the fact that different things work for different people. I'm 24 in a relationship with one person and that's all I've been interested in. I've never had a problem with people "playing the field" as long as it doesn't turn into blatantly deceiving 3rd parties who might be under the impression that they're involved in something more/deeperl.
Monogamy is not for everyone. And for some people (like myself) monogamy is pretty much all they prefer. Life is confusing and hectic enough without trying to juggle multiple partners, personalities, dating interests, etc on top of it. But that's for me personally. Other people are perfectly fine doing those things.
It could be that I never felt the need to "find myself" having already had a good sense of who I was and what type of individuals I'm interested in. I never really had to "play the field" to get a sense of what Iike. I know what I like and when I see it I home in on it and go for the kill so to speak.
Personally I think if people feel the need to find themselves then they should probably do that before entertaining the idea of any serious relationships. And I see nothing wrong with that as long as, like I said earlier, everyone involved is on the same page.”

Being Biracial and Black in the Age of Obama
Commented Feb 01, 2009 at 18:47:52 in Politics
“One thing I've noticed is people generally tend to lump biracial blacks who are average every day people in the category of "black" but biracial blacks who rise to fame or great accomplishment suddenly "biracial", "not black", "culturally white", and a host of other labels I've seen applied to Obama (post-Iowa Primary) and other famous biracial blacks.
No one wants to claim biracial blacks unless they're famous. With the exception of blacks of course. And you see this with biracial blacks who are half-Latino (I know that term technically isn't correct but for the sake of discussion I'm going to use it) and half-Asians as well. Those groups especially will avoid biracial blacks like they have the plague.
It's not a matter of America having a hard time relating to this mix. If anything America has been more accepting of it because it makes him "not quite so black" and provides a comfort level for many non-black Americans. He's black enough for Americans to pat themselves on the back for electing him, but not black enough to scare non-blacks into not voting for him period. I've lost count how many whites I've heard say that Obama is "not really black" almost as if they need to convince themselves. I really doubt they'd be saying that if Obama was a bum in Chicago or Joe Blow from Idaho. And I know plenty of biracial blacks who feel the exact same way.”

“Great post, and I agree. Most blacks are mixed or biracial, some more than others and some more directly than others (i.e. white mother or father). But virtually all blacks, mixed or not, are seen, both within and outside of our community, as black, as Obama would also be seen if he were not who he is. I recognized during the campaign, those who were most inclined to reject Obama's "blackness" or to dissect his genetic composition, were his white supporters, those who needed to justify to themselves their support for him or to feel comfortable in supporting a black man. Yet, ironically, those who opposed him and particularly the racists who opposed him, accepted without reservations that he was black, which underscored their antipathy for him. I think one of the many good things that has come out of this election is this kind of dialogue and perhaps a growing awareness of our common humanity, which has been so maligned by the misconceptions of race.”

Think of the blks who've been leaders in this country regardless of tone. They've been the ones who accept and love being blk. Clarence Thomas, Steele, and all the other sell outs will never get far b/c pple don't like pple who hate themselves.”

If I didn't email my ex or call her she'd go for weeks without saying anything unless I initiated it. I ended it two days ago. Although I think in our case she wasn't really that interested in a relationship in the first place. Who knows though.

“And I'd like to ask you a question. Should Barack Obama just focused on the groups that he THOUGHT were going to come out and vote in his favor and ignore the ones he figured would not? Or should he have reached out to communities and groups that historically would not agree with him or his posistions in order to advance his cause??
You're a perfect example of the complacent attitude the LBGT community took in Cali and why that bill passed. They were so busy sitting on their @sses naively thinking that people who voted for Obama would vote against prop 8 that by the time they actually did get a fire under their @sses the Prop had already passed. All of these protests going on now should have been going on two weeks ago.
Yes on 8 proponents actually reached out to black churches, black ministers and preachers, and encouraged many to vote Yes on 8. The outreach by the LGBT community into black enclaves?? None. Just a bunch of excuses (like yours) for why they didn't bother.
And I honestly think until many LGBT (and sorry but this mostly includes the white ones) improve this mentality within their own community, they'd be better served not trying to lecture others on what they should and shouldn't do.”

Proposition 8 Defeats California

“Statistically blacks make up so little of the population (including the population who actually voted) of California even if they voted 100% No on proposition 8 the bill still would have failed by almost 100,000 votes. I know it's nice to blame the black community for the failings of the LBGT community's complacency regarding this proposition and lack of outreach to Latino or Black communities whatsoever but please don't dump this all on blacks. There were many more whites who voted for proposition 8 than blacks who voted for or against the bill altogether. If you need a scapegoat please look somewhere else.

It makes me wonder if her intentions are to simply raise her ratings among the Hispanic demographic but if that's the case I wonder how in tune they'd be with the show simply because it's in Spanish.”

When they lie, just like Bush has lied the past 8 years, a spotlight needs to be shone on the lie. The spotlight shouldn't simply 'sit' on the lie but to leave it in the dark completely would be a huge mistake. Because from what I've seen the MSN is quite content to let these Republican strategists, pundits, and McCain campaign officials lie through their teeth repeatedly and not call them on it.”
