“He may not remember how ordinary people live; however, he does know how to add columns of numbers and how profit/loss works. I'm more inclined to listen to the words of a man who managed to amass more than $11 billion than listen to the man who wants to spend $2-3 trillion on a health insurance industry profit protection plan.”

“It's official: President Obama and the Democratic Congress has completed the sale of 17% of the US GDP to the highest bidders in the insurance industry. This is a sad day for America when our people are now being forced to buy an over-priced product TODAY while some of the alleged benifts don't start for FOUR YEARS. Remember to vote independent in 2010 and 2012. Clean the house and senate of democrates AND republicans.”

“Nonsense. It amazes me that when our president actually tries to help our citizens have adequate health care, he is scorned. No, the health bill is not what it should be, but at least it is a beginning. I find it interesting that the Right has done absolutely nothing to provide help its citizens in this area. However, they LOVE to spend billions killing people in far off lands and all but destroying our military in the process.”

“It would be a much sadder day for America if we had done nothing instead.

I am a staunch supporter of single-payer, or at the least, the public option. I, however, am not willing to kill a bill that will help people worse off than me, just because I didn't get everything I wanted.”

Let's not vote for any incumbents in 2010 and 2012 -- and, yes, that means you Mr. Obama. “Past tense: Obama has undermined his brand by spreading wide open for the finance, insurance, pharmaceutical, and defense industries. His party's bride-laden bill is a disgrace. All Americans need to remember his indifference to helping 300 million Americans to lavish favors on big business. Crush the dominant parties in 2010 and 2012 by voting only for independents. Send the GOP and Dems to political Siberia.”

kkdblue replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 14:03:36

“It is not about voting for independents. What will they do once get elected? Right now, I think liberals and progressives can organize and form a separate entity from democratic party; conservatives and libertarians have to separate from the modern republican party to form another party. That provide people with more choices and less disappointment. Then based on people's will in elections they can form coalitions to govern. Right now, core right and left leaning people are used and discarded.

Currently, results of elections mean nothing effectively. Election results should be a mandate to govern not to uplift bipartisan nonsense. Ideological divide is good for politics. It is not like racial division or religious divisions.”

Seeing Public Subsidy (Not Public Option) Investors Flock to Health Insurers

Commented Dec 21, 2009 at 18:54:54 in Business

“So the health insurance industry got a very good return on the hundreds of millions they spent through "lobbying" a corrupt Congress to buy 17% of the US GDP. Pretty good business model. Never mind that in exchange for getting a few concessions, half a dozen health insurance executives now get to decide what kind of health care 300 millions Americans get. And this is as Congress wanted it to be. This is what the Democrats begged, borrowed and bribed each other to create. It's a good thing our politicians are immune to shame or they might be able to sleep at night.”

“I called both of my Democratic senators and urged them to vote against this terrible piece of vanity legislation that gives the entire loaf of bread to the insurance cartels and leaves the crumbs for the American people. If Obama wants to run his administration for Wall Street, insurance companies and big pharmaceutical companies and defense contractors, he would be wise to remember that the voters will remember in 2010 and 2012.

Obama is the man who CHOSE to continue two pointless wars, CHOSE to lavish Wall Street with taxpayer money with few strings attached and no accountability for the people who nearly destroyed a global economy, CHOSE to support a health insurance plan that does nothing to address costs but does reward insurers with 30 million forced "customers" and CHOSE to allow big pharma to charge Americans more than any other country for the same drugs sold elsewhere. He CHOSE to give his middle finger to America to support an agenda that helps the rich and screws everyone else. it's George Bush with a suntan. No incumbents EVER.”

There were six weeks between that contract and his next one. In the interim, his son was diagnosed with chronic asthma. Since my friend couldn't pay Cobra what they wanted, the family now had a pre-existing condition and he wasn't able to get insurance at all on the next contract. For him, insurance from an exchange - like Group Health in Washington state - would not be 'vanity.' It would be the only way he could insure his family.”

He's the guy who signed into law the bill that tore down the wall between brokerage houses and banks and sowed the seeds of this financial crisis because he was so utterly desperate to a have a "win" after he lost congress. He also implement Don't Ask, Don't Tell and signed the Defense of Marriage Act. Bill Clinton put his signature on three of the scurrilous pieces of legislation in modern memory. This is the man who knows all about selling his soul for a hollow, showpiece win. He sickens me.”

Marcospinelli replied on Dec 17, 2009 at 17:54:40

“I wouldn't say that Clinton did it for a hollow showpiece win -- There is that $100 million that Clinton has amassed in the eight years he's been out of the White House, and the unknown mega-fortune he's made with Ron Burkell in hedge funds (then there's Chelsea's right-out-of-the-gate-of-college salary, said to be in the neighborhood of $300,000/year), much of it a direct result of his ending Glass-Steagle.

Ending welfare and all of the safety nets necessary for when a greedy aristocracy loses all control is what Clinton lost his soul over, if someone who co-founded the DLC can be said to have ever had a soul.”
