FACT CHECK: GOP Math Suspect In Stimulus Debate
Commented Nov 02, 2009 at 10:46:49 in Politics
“You all miss the point. This is NOT about math. This is about lying. If you're simply dividing the stimulus by the amount of jobs AND DON'T INCLUDE all the lumber (cement, asphalt, steel etc.) that the stimulus money ALSO pays for along with that job, you're not doing MATH incorrectly, you're just trying to deceive.”

“Republicans have not provided a rational explanation, they are just creating animosity. ..let me try to give you a rational point of view from a Conservative Perspective -- I would appreciate a rational response if you would like to debate it (show respect please).
There are several ways to spend the stimulus: 1) Use it to cover Fixed Expenses (buildings, telescopes, cement, etc), 2) Use it to cover Variable Expenses (labor) or 3) a Mix of Variable and Fixed. They are trying to do #3, but the majority of spending is on the Fixed side instead of the Variable -- this is the problem I have. If we just focused on Education alone by providing loans to all parties (whites, blacks, browns, pinks, blues...) or tutoring/a fter-schoo l programs or vocational training, we could have increased the number of teachers at all levels of learning while investing in Variable Expenses -- the trickle down economics from here is quite simple, more people working means more consumption (ie houses/buildings being built, books/computers being manufactured, etc). Plus we get the benefits from a more educated work-force. Instead Congress approved multi-million dollar spending on "bobbles" (ie telescopes, jungle gyms, statues, bridges to no-where literally vacant islands, etc).
This is my point of view - I don't think it's biased against the current administration; it's just pragmatic.”

“He's neither a wimp nor weak. He's misguided. He's been trying to form bipartisan support for his policies, which will go nowhere since the Republicans don't care about policy, they only care about defeating Obama. I'm sure that under the surface, much of this is racism, plain and simple. No one's going to come out and say, "I don't want a black president!" They'll just make the black president that one the election in a LANDSLIDE unable to govern by defeating anything he proposes. They get what they want, and can continue to stay in the closet. Summers Received Hundreds Of Thousands In Speaking Fees From TARP Recipients
Commented Apr 04, 2009 at 06:12:42 in Politics
“So what if he got speaking fees during his career BEFORE joining the Obama administration. He won't be getting any while he's working on the problem this year or for any years he's in the administration. You really think Summers thinks that he owes Goldman Sachs 10 BILLION because they hired him as an expert in the field last year to speak to them? Are you kidding? You really think he OK'ed 25 BILLION in TARP money to J. P. Morgan because they gave him speaking fees? Get real. Should Obama have limited his appointments to those who NEVER were asked to speak as an expert? Should he have hired NON-experts?? What's the matter with you folks? There's absolutely NO conspiracy here. Just Obama hiring the best and brightest. Which is EXACTLY what we need now. You trolls should GO HOME.”

Truthahn replied on Apr 04, 2009 at 06:43:09
“Please. This is a textbook case of conflict of interest. Many of these huge speaking fees came from companies that already knew they would probably need government help to avoid insolvency. It's a crystal-clear case of desperate corporations trying to buy the friendship of a man that everybody knew would wield major power in the Obama administration. I can well imagine the reaction at Huffpo if a President John McCain had hired somebody with Summers' background as his economic advisor. But of course when Barack Obama does it it's perfectly acceptable to you.”

McCain On Stimulus: Democrats Just Like GOP
Commented Feb 08, 2009 at 13:44:14 in Politics
“All these Republican tools! To say that if the administration says $800 billion and they say $400 billion, then partisanship is accepting their number. BS! McCain ought to remember that he LOST the election. The country voted for Obama and the Dems much because of the fiscal policies of McCain and Bush, including an unnecessary war which nearly tripled the national debt in 8 years. We, the people, shouted out for change in November. Bi-partisan doesn't mean splitting the difference, it means bringing in the other side for consultation, something the GOP scrupulously failed to do for 8 years. Obama has done this. That's all he owes to bi-partisanship. The GOP lost the election in a LANDSLIDE! Obama needs to do exactly what he wants... all the time, regardless of what the discredited, obstructive GOP wants.”

The Republican's are deep into the negative, divisive and crude campaign of Karl Rove and his minions. “I love Arianna. I dislike Tucker Carlson intensely and always have. HOWEVER, in this one case, I think he's right. A NEWS show should have an impartial newsman. It should ALSO have Keith Olbermann on one side and perhaps Tucker Carlson on the other. But a "Walter Cronkite" should "front" the news. Someone who keeps his biases in check, and on hold for the duration of the broadcast. Otherwise, as TC points out, we're CHANGING the news into something else all together. And he's also correct that it's being done for ratings. Other than this small slice of what he says, I HATE EVERYTHING HE STANDS FOR. But it just goes to show his point, that sometimes the "other" side does have something worhwhile to add to the debate.”

Mccain first accused Maliki of saying he wanted a troop withdrawl to win the election in Iraq, Yet another attack from Mccain stating everybody is willing to lose a war to win an election. This was the same attack he accused Obama . Mccain went on to say that Maliki wanted a 16 month withdrawl according to conditions on the ground inwhich Maliki didn't say was was conditional. Then he said he knows PM Maliki very well and said he wouldn't withdrawl the troops. Wolf Splitzer asked why not and Mccain said he wont. I think Mccain is being very arrogant and he is guilty of the same attackes he accusing Obama of the surge. Mccain has not acknowledge that President Bush and Maliki has agreed to a timetable for withdrawl and PM Malikits latest statements of wanting the troops out in 2010. Mccain also without hesitation said he would move the capital of Isreal to Jeruselum as soon as he became president. But her point, and this life-long liberal democrat thinks it's a reasonable one, is that the N word DOES separate us, does pull us apart. It carries SO MUCH baggage, that, while what Whoopie is saying sounds like a plan, it would take soooooo long to alter not the meaning, but the EFFECT of the word, that using it will cause pain for a long, long time. Even in someone like Elizabeth. Who probably has NO black "friends" off the show. I really felt sorry for her, and believe her tears real. What I saw was someone trying to be a better person... live on TV, and I admire her for her sincerity. I'd have liked to see the discussion go on, because it IS a needed one.
