America Without a Middle Class

America Without a Middle Class

Commented Dec 03, 2009 at 10:31:12 in Business

“Lefty- The billion dollar bottled water industy is totally unregulated. So you in many cases could be drinking tap water and paying for bottled water.

Higher prices on designer jeans do not necessarily mean better quality, it just means that to some jeans are a status symbol, as with many things we purchase.

Most Americans live way beyond their means because of credit card companies who if you pay the minimum payment own you for life. Legal loan sharks. So as I said tune it down a little, I am sure many are doing just that. Forced common sense.”

lefty2026 replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 12:55:27

“I agree with you that there are many who live beyond their means. Unfortunately greed is not a disease that affects only the upper class.

And personally, I do not own any designer jeans and I always pay my credit balance in full. I am all for personal responsiblity, but that doesn't mean that I believe that the middle class deserves all the responsibility.

I have been told by older, fellow engineers that on their starting salaries out of college, they were able to easily purchase a new house and a top of the line car (the car could be paid in cash in full). I consider myself successful, but I live in a studio apartment and I had to finance my car. I am far better off than most of my friends.

It seems that no amount of tuning down is going to protect any of us ( who don't have parents to bail us out) from the dangers of "the pink slip or bad diagnoses". Many people I know work well over 40 hours a week and still barely make ends meet. It is not all their fault.”

Welcome to the Suck

Commented Dec 03, 2009 at 10:00:38 in Politics

“Chez said it correctly Obama is doing exactly what he told the voters he would do. They voted for him and now that he is keeping his word and all of a sudden their pissed? Hypocrital.

They are trying to make up for the fact that many of them foolishly supported the Iraq invasion, even though to anyone with common sense it was a fools errand from the beginning. That mistake cannot be rectified.

Live with it. Do not let it blur your judgement about this war.”

ObamaSheeple replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 10:54:42

“Live with what exactly? I knew the Iraq invasion was B.S. from the beginning as most liberals did.

My judgment isn't clouded at all. It is time to leave Afghanistan.

Obama can take comfort in knowing he kept one promise while the rest were lies as he exits the White House in 2012. Just wait and see.”

“Right we the middle class are the problem. Living way beyond our means. Close electronic stores for a few years , where people line up to buy their 5 and 6th televisions etc etc.

Bottled water in now available in a can? Wow!There was a time when there was no bottled water, and people somehow thrived.

A pair of jeans with someone elses name on it other than yours is worth 10 times the price of a pair of jeans without a name on it? Come on.

The more it costs the better it is mentality. The country has spoiled itself. Tuning down would be a beginning.”

lefty2026 replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 09:45:12

“Maybe you know better, but from what I just read, Americans are spending less and less on discresionary expenses.

And as far as bottled water... I don't blame anyone. I get notices every month or so about high levels of lead in my tap water. I purchased a filter, but still keep bottled water in my car.

The Americans I know work hard, and I think that if they want nice jeans - they should be able to afford them.”

bluevase replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 09:34:15

“Yes, those purchases spurred the economy and indicated a high standard of living for Americans, who were urged by every available media to buy, buy, buy.”

How We Should Really Be Viewing Afghanistan

Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 18:04:27 in World

“Melissa your words

"What is clear to the soldiers, but misunderstood by the "Troops Out!" camp, is that a large army is actually safer than a small one. Which sounds safer: walking into a biker bar alone, or walking into a biker bar with half a dozen friends? The same is true in a combat zone."

Brilliant strategy, except it begs the question: why not go in full force in Iraq and Afghanistan from the beginning?? We wanted it t be a fair fight? Duh”

They are not Al Qaida or Bin laden. Our enemies, the Taliban never attacked us! Duh!

Terrorists can be trained anywhere, after all 9-11 was organized in Hamburg , Germany.

Should we invade the world? More or less we already have. figure it out.”

“Where were all these naysayers at the start of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars?". The recession has dampened their enthusiasm for war?

The American public bought the Bush administrations policies that got us into two wars,Hussein was behind 9-11 , WMD etc, now Obama is stuck with this quagmire and either way he goes he cannot win. God bless America and Bush and Cheney.”

Americans Are Not Oxymorons: Reflections On President Obama's Afghanistan Plans

Commented Nov 30, 2009 at 08:09:49 in Politics

“Maybe Obama should get Bush and Cheney to push the surge for him.

All of a sudden the moronic Americans that bought into the Iraq propaganda even after being warned that Iraq would be another Vietnam have become more astute?

Their patriotic flags were waving in the wind after 9-11, now those flags are not waving because the recession has dampened their enthusiasm for war. Whatever works.

When Cheney was told last year that many Americans were now against the Iraq war he said, quote: soooooooooooo? Obama inherited this mess from the Bush administration, the recession as well. He has no good options here,as if he scales the war down he will be labeled a coward by the same party that started these two wars in search of Bin Laden? And that party will only win if he and America loses, however that occurs.”

If he chooses to not increase troop levels, the Republicans will use it to say he is a coward, the old fear game, and then if any kind of attack happens in America the Republicans. will shout we told you so. Elect us. They love the bind Obama is in.

Failure for America in any way under Obamas watch is sugar in their coffee.”

A Letter From a Reader of My Book

Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 16:53:35 in Books

“Being there has nothing to do with the internet and telephones. Nothing.

Being there is just that being there. When you have no choice the internet and telephones are better than nothing, but if your not part of at least their weekly lives you are not on the same wave length, you do not know their friends and their friends do not know you, and so forth and so on.

There are thousands of fathers out there who society somehow, someway, believes that they do not love their children the same way a mother does. B.S.- is what that is.”

“I am hoping Obama gets us out of this war and takes the consequences. That would make him man of the century, and honorary Nobel Peace Prize winner always.

Of course the Republicans would then be hoping for an attack On America from someone who had a relative in Afghanistan at one time etc. Catch my drifft? I hope so. They only win by America being attacked.

Underneath it all, they hope for exactly that. Cheney most of all( The Cheneys) you know the blonde daughter who is????

End corruption in Afghanistan or for that matter Iraq, who are we kidding,????

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 04:00:06 in Living

“Exactly harvey2, the time I spent helping raise my young daughter I would not trade for any career or any amount of money- It was a gift,Priceless-

Most men spend their lives in unfulfilling jobs they hate so their family can be as comfortable as possible, all at he expense of their own comfort, and they never really get to know or spend quality time with their young children. So are women unhappy, some I am sure, but there are many unhappy men out there as well, why is it that there are no articles about mens happiness? Because they leave the itch, itch, itching to the women. They are so much better at it.”

George Carlin: The Last Words of America's Greatest Comedian

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 20:27:26 in Comedy

“George Carlin was Lenny Bruce , but with hope for humanity, Lenny had lost his hope. Now the question is who was correct?

If humanity has not changed since forever, what is funny? , the hopelessness'? Or was that Georges way of dealing with what he knew to be the truth. Humanity is fatally flawed, laugh or leave

.Either way you lose. Might as well have some laughs in the meantime.”
