“"You act like the USA CARES"

Excuse me?
You have no idea how and what I feel and obviously haven't read many of my posts around here either.

My heart has been breaking over these obscenities for probably longer than you've been alive - and I know lots of good folks here on HP who care deeply with their whole hearts and souls.

So get a hold of yourself and stop attacking and insulting the very people who share your anguish and are trying to do whatever they can to make things better.”

“Refreshing, to say the least, and like you, I make no pretense to knowing what should be done to resolve this nightmare.

You are also among the very very few who even seem to notice how many others we have implicated in our war - often while our leaders were acting in less than good faith.Thank you for reminding us.”

“Agreed "squeezed".

Thank you (and Bob) for articulating what so many of us are feeling. I know I certainly share your painful ambivilance. But given the disaster he inherited, the least we can do is give him a chance to make the best of this heartwrenching "situation."

Bob Cesca always makes me feel better too with his wit and wisdom and way with words.”

“I wouldn't dare because I agree with you. It will end badly. And it is small comfort that some "bads" (I would call it/them EVIL) are worse than others, I guess.

What would YOU do, Research? (Please know I am not being snarky or sarcastic) And what do you think would happen if we could follow your plan? God, I wish I could see some way out of this that won't have devastatingly BAD outcome.”

“The present situation IS "devastating consequences".

You act like the USA CARES.

The USE is a corrupt war mongering plutocracy, for sale to the highest bidder: Basters and War profiteers win.

Let the veils fall from your eyes.

The USA Tortures, goes to war for profit, spies on it's citizens. The USA's CIA topples democracy around the world, and creates enough blow back to keep the war profiteers fat forever.

Meanwhile Our citizens are dying from poverty!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and our banksters are getting golden toilet bonuses, obscene!

What kind of nation does that sound like to you?

Disillusionment is the path to enlightenment.

Face it.

“"Hobson's Choice: a bad option versus no choice at all."

Matt is telling it like it is - and when nuclear weapons are involved - it's not as easy as just saying "I've had enough, I'm going home."

And Bob Cesca has captured the reality confronting Obama (and US as a nation) with a passionate yet precise prose that makes the medicine easier to swallow - because in a sick way (like cancer and chemo) it somehow kind of makes sense.

And I say that as a two time (so far) cancer "survivor" - who understands the hopes and agonies of having to make drastic decisions and take enormously Calculated Risks....

I hate this. I hate how and why we got here in the first place. And I hate that this appears to be the best (most hopeful) way out of a bottomless pit.”

“"That a gun is capable of killing is not the point." - True, the gun's intended purpose is to kill.

Cars can kill too, so can taking a shower, eating spoiled food or a poison mushroom can kill, cold or hot weather can kill. But in none of these cases is the intended or proper "use" specifically designed to kill.

And when a gun is pointed at you (whether in anger, fear, or to "force" a specific action/response) - the odds of that gun discharging are significantly increased.”

OdinsEye replied on Dec 02, 2009 at 11:10:04

“"True, the gun's intended purpose is to kill."

If so, 99.9999% of them are being misused.

Ever see a Hammerli 160/162? One look at it will tell you it is not intended to kill.

The intent is to propel a projectile at a target with a degree of accuracy. The purpose of propellin g that projectile is entirely up to the owner/operator. I have numerous firearms whose sole purpose is to poke holes in paper, break clay discs, and knock down gongs and poppers.

"Cars can kill too, so can taking a shower, eating spoiled food or a poison mushroom can kill, cold or hot weather can kill. But in none of these cases is the intended or proper "use" specifically designed to kill."

That the supposedly benign purposed vehicles are involved in more injuries and injury deaths than these allegedly malevolent purposed firearms speaks pretty darn poorly for vehicles.”

(Why waste time with paranoid NRA junkies who believe you need a collection of AK-47s to go duck hunting - though when you're around "hunters" like this - it's imperative that YOU duck!)

I got clobbered this morning by a gang of gun-slingers who insist that "anecdotes" are all FACTS! And that if you can find and provide a "supporting" link - you have God and Truth on your side....

Oh - I've been meaning to tell you that we share the same religion:

"I'm agnostic but (my late husband was a church goer.) My 'religion' has always been -" the green fields, the open skies and everything in and on them - along with the Golden Rule."”

“Good evening, my friend! How are you tonight?

I agree, all the gunslingers have been out in force today. Venom unleashed towards the 'un-brainwashed'. Don't take it to heart, Cowboys will be cowBOYS - and they need to show their might.

I was just watching our Commander in Chief's explanation of his Afghanistan policy - at West Point (in a beautiful part of New York State). He said something that I thought fit the discussion on this particular thread. I have to paraphrase because the text of the speech hasn't been posted yet.

He expressed the idea that -
"this country's peace and security will not come only from the use of force - but from those who work to AVOID using that force."

I have always believed that you get much more accomplished by offering a spoonful of honey rather than a spoonful of vinegar.

Have a good night and wake up refreshed. I'm going now to take a nice long soak in my jacuzzi tub. It was a 'luxury' I gave myself when I moved to Maine eleven years ago. My favorite time to soak is when we are in the middle of a winter blizzard. I take my book and a mug of tea. One of my cats still comes to sit on the side of the tub and play with the bubbles - even though he fell in a few years ago. That was interesting!”

I refer to the many instances* that do not start out as pre-meditated murders - but as something else that escalates - and the presence of guns make it easy for a minor dispute to become deadly

* (and no I won't quote somebody else's real or made up "numbers" when common sense is quite compelling - and there a many anecdotes out there as well!)”
