“Well, things always do evolve - Republicans were formed to support freedom - Civil War & End Slavery/ Reconstruct the south. Thus, the South was FIRMLY Democratic until the 1960s, then they took over the GOP with conservative notions. Under FDR, the Dems then became the liberal group & A-A joined in firm #. Now GOP wants to move back to the party's original focus. Interesting and necessary if they want/need to continue within the framework, unless they want to become only history like the Whigs - the organization they actually replaced in the 1850s!”
“Getting beyond the comment - "Stereotypically" women are less in favor of visual images than men. The literary aspects, aka stories, are what captures most females. Romance stories, et al (the racier the better) are what they prefer. Males, on the other hand, prefer the visual aspects. Afterall, which magazine came first and is more 'appreciated' - Playboy or Playgirl? Case closed! Yes, there are some female who want to see and some guys who want to read, but they are not the majority of their sex. Scientifically and culturally that has been the overall preference. It may be related to the anthropological history - guys were hunters - hence lookers; whereas the gals were the organizers - hence planning things while planting the gardens/fields. Thus, the women would be seeing the future - waiting for the story to unveil as the guys looked for the prey and got it before it could run away aka fast and furious ASAP brought the winning success.”
“In Reference to the comments of Donn S & Tristan S -
When the Constitution impinges upon the RIGHTS of another person!!! Hence, the three aspects of the gov't - assembly (House & Senate), executive (President & cabinet), and legal (Judges & Courts) are set up to avoid one group overpowering all. Therefore, in reply to the aspects of your responses, in other words, 3/5 of a person is not proper!!!”

“It would be helpful if you would tag your comments directly to the people you are responding to. Otherwise, we have to scroll through jillions of other comments to get to Donn S and Trist S. Also, it's highly unlikely that they will ever see your post here since they probably won't be reading every single post on this thread.
Otherwise, good comments.”

“This firmly devoted Democrat, is a bit worried about open immigration and its impact. "We" no longer allow in the educated. A close Canadian friend, who is an author of the math books used by UCLA, NJIT etc is NOT allowed to stay here. I also worry about letting in those who adore mecca but want nothing to do with DC to get in with no restrictions. Growing up in NJ, I *literally* watched the Trade Centers get built, as my childhood home had its back windows facing the NYC. Thus, after 9/11 I am quite worried about allowing too many of those devoted to the koran rather than The Constitution to arrive in large numbers.”

“So much for freedom of religion. Fear is the mind killer.”
Gee, do you ever ride on roads without any billboard? Do you enjoy pristine national parks? If so, then you need to thank her for bringing forth ecology and nice looking places to the US forefront - aka "Keep America Beautiful" long before many others took up her concept. If you fail to visit those super places, then go forth and see what Jackie's legacy has meant to the general public!!! Please, read history before you rant about mistruths and use slanders to damage the reputation about the fine things great people do!!!”

“Did you read the article? Jackie was fist lady over 50 years ago, not 25.”
AmericanDoughboy on May 10, 2014 at 00:45:34
“The cause you mention was also championed by Lady Bird Johnson who urged everyone to "plant a tree, bush, or a shrub and don't be a litterbug"...”

“Off topic, since this article is the last 25 years...but I'm with you. I think of her, and thank her, when I go through Grand Central. Here are the words on the tribute plaque there, thanking her for saving the building.
Jackies public service extended far beyond her White House years.
"IN MEMORY AND HONOR OF JAQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS. 1929 - 1994
In an age when few people sought to preserve the architectural wonders that are a daily reminder of our rich and glorious past, a brave woman rose in protest to save this terminal from demolition. Because of her tireless and valiant efforts, it stands today as a monument to those who came before us and built the greatest city known to mankind. Preserving this great landmark is one of her many enduring legacies. The people of New York are forever grateful."”

“Joseph, thank you for saying what I wanted to! Even though I was a baby when President Kennedy was murdered, I always admired the way that Jackie redid the White House, wowed the French, got people to think about the enviornment, and her spectacular grace in the days after her husband was murdered when her every move was photographed for all of the world to see, including the one where he was actually killed, right next to her. Also as First Lady she was the mother of two very young children, which I think people sometimes forget. She was a class act, and someone who I admired.”
“AND - how can this be legitimate without Eleanor Roosevelt being A#1? I guess the public has a short memory. Absolutely no one else can even come near her, let alone equal that particularly tremendous person!!!”
giftsthatpurr on May 10, 2014 at 20:43:09
“Agree - but the poll asked for first ladies from the past 25 years.”
fredflinstone on May 10, 2014 at 07:06:11
“"Barbara Bush and Hillary Clinton have tied for the title of America's favorite first lady from the past 25 years,"
Eleanor Roosevelt was not a first lady within the last 25 years, that is how Eleanor Roosevelt does not make the list. It was all explained for you in the first sentence.”
“As usual, the media snubs NJ. Why is there no mention where it took place? would they have merely reported California? Ohio? Pennsylvania? No, they would have mention the township as well - Denver, Colorado; Miami, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; etc. So, why was Jersey City not mentioned as the place? I grew up there and know it well, but find the lack of details the usual lack of details as an insult to all of The Garden Staters - even if it is a sad/bad report.”
“Gee, but weren't WE ALL stuck with " w " due to Texas? Does that mean the USA citizens could sue that state because of the grief it caused US to have by keeping gore out of the office he actually won???”
Namdoc on Apr 11, 2014 at 23:56:52
“Even the vaulted NY Times admitted that Bush won, even with Gore's attempts to keep military votes from being counted. Get over it. Bush won. Gore wanted to change the rules after the election. Strange, since the election officials in the Counties whose results the Democrats didn't like were all Democrats.”
“Certainly. As one who has been involved with Jur-Zee Poly-Ticks for decades, I can hardly wait for the next shoe to drop! Gee, if dear ole' Mayor Hague was still around, he would have either given firm advice to 666tie or already have him hauled to court. Depending upon the price and/or benefit. But that would have been Hague's fixing. Afterall Frank was just as, if not more, powerful than NYC's "Boss" Tweed or Mayor Daily of Chicago!”
“Can hardly wait for guv666tie to get booted out of office!!! Born and bred in NJ, I moved from NJ last year to NH. Was only hoping he would go for DC so that I would be able to VOTE AGAINST him one more time!!!”
“BOYCOTT UPS!!! No middle class person in the US would be such had the workers of the late 19th/early 20th centuries made the Astors/Vanderbilts listen to them. I have, upon reading this story, just cancelled an order that was only coming via UPS. BOYCOTT UPS!!!!”
somepeoplecallmethestig on Apr 6, 2014 at 07:25:50
“The first people you hurt with your boycott idea are the low seniority drivers and part-time workers. They have the routes that get cut first, they also tend to be the ones with the youngest families who have just bought a home with a nice big mortgage to pay.
But I am sure you don't care, as long as it makes you feel better.”
turkeyhunter1960 on Apr 5, 2014 at 22:39:24
“Your boycott will:
Cause union Teamsters at UPS to lose their jobs.
Cause non union FedEx to add more non union jobs.
I live when a ridiculous over reaction causes the exact opposite of the intended consequence. Sorta like a typical day for the government.”
“Gee, in terms of islam - when is a woman ever allowed to go on stage? What NON-muslim is even allowed to enter Arabia w/out prior 'religious' approval? (if you have any doubts about that comment, do check with any travel agent and they will inform you that is absolutley so). Besides, in support of arab 'culture' she would need to be covered from head to toe, thus how could the audience be able to hear her sing? DEAL WITH ART. THIS IS USA & 21st CENTURY.”
lionx24x on Apr 3, 2014 at 19:06:13
“from what ive seen people know far less about arab & muslim culture then they beleave they do. & tend to beleave it is more violent then any other faith with no good people in it while i found passages that speak agenst what most people beleave muslims to be”
“the next question to be resolved is: Do Zebras have black coats w/white stripes or white coats w/black stripes? Also, in terms of mating - Do the width of the stripes make a difference for attraction? Next PhD dissertation coming . . .”
“Hey, an impeachment will surely give him a great deal of time home. Better yet, a penal sentence will definitely allow him to be able to rest for 2-6 yrs? I'll vote for him to get *that* term of service - even let him have the 'vacation' choice of Rahway, Newark, or Trenton (not the Gov's mansion). Anything to get him out of power.”
