Obama Won't Push Equal Rights Law in the Right Direction

Commented Dec 28, 2009 at 22:01:36 in Politics

“"Remember the bully in school? Whom did he or she pick on? I can guarantee the bully did not pick on the person who did not allow him or herself to be picked on." - from "You Teach People How To Treat You" by James J. Mapes, Ph.D.

Applying this to the Q community (a "community" whose makeup is too diverse to ever achieve a UNIFIED FRONT), it seems we have TAUGHT our neighbors and government these lessons about us:

* Our most beloved family member's and children's rights are so questionable that we will enable government to allow society to VOTE "for" or "against" our family's safety and security. Vote on our LEGAL WORTH. Victimhood Embraced.

* We don't REALLY think we deserve these rights RIGHT NOW, because who in their right mind would merely "protest" this injustice day in and day out for 10, 20, 30 years instead of TAX REVOLTING against it.

* We think rights are "won" in campaigns. A prize. A game of luck where we hope for the best, INSTEAD of revolting and letting society know that, "There is NO WAY IN HELL you will vote against my family's well-being. NO F***ING WAY - PERIOD."

Well, those WITH their full citizenship and rights can pay my taxes!”

Is this also an injustice?”

“Hey, I'm glad when anyone is pro-equality !! But remember that tax revolt is not just about trying to produce a result, it's also about each individual refusing to be taxed by a government that abuses him or her. When government exclusion and discrimination causes extreme financial loss, it's impossible to comply - at least that's my position. More here for anyone who cares:

And it seems that rapists (convicted, or the MANY un-reported still walking free) also have the priviledge of marrying the person they love, or use, or abuse.

When I see an antacid ad where the bride brags about her 2nd marriage - things are AFU. (GOD, you straight people push marriage down our throats every chance you get on TV. Do a reality check and keep track of every mention of "marriage-husband-wife-married-wedding-anniversary" AD NAUSEUM)”

“Anyone who lumps a gay tax revolt with the tea baggers is a misguided fool.

GAYS have a right to resist taxation when we are denied rights are excluded from legal protections - hardly a claim the tea baggers have!

Despite how we say have a "separation" of church and state - that's a sick joke. The fact that religion even comes UP in conversations about civil rights is VERY UN-American and inappropriate.”

RayinDC replied on Dec 05, 2009 at 20:35:00

“OK, so maybe I'm a misguided fool then-- but remember, I'm a misguided fool who's on your side.

Thanks God (no pun intended) and the Constitution that we do have separation of Church and State. I think it's fine for religion to come up in conversation, and even for people to vote on the basis of their religion beliefs. The problem then comes when one group tries to force their religious beliefs on another group. That's what the Constituion is there to protect us from, through the institution of the Supreme Court. Admittedly, the latter sometimes does a sub-par job, but that's the unfortunate thing about human institutions. But the system is basically sound (it's the best one anyone's come up with so far), and the overall trend is in change's favor. Hence, I don't think that approaches like tax revolts are productive.”

“Luckily she can afford to move. Many cannot. But more and more LGBTQ Americans are discussing tax revolt and/or are silently dropping out of the tax base. Perhaps by April 15th many more may just decide to join the underground economy and let those WITH their Precious American Constitutional Rights to PAY TAXES FROM NOW ON!”

Anne Johnson replied on Dec 05, 2009 at 08:18:50

“I have commented on several threads on this site that somehow this needs to be taken up with the IRS or whoever writes the tax laws. I see no reason why a group of people who are not legally allowed to get married to the person they love should have to subsidize the people who are against equal marriage rights for all. Some of the big0ts have commented that gay people have every right to marry someone of the opposite sex if they so choose. That is a false argument. Marriage is about entering into a legal contract with the person you love and trust more than anyone else especially when it comes to legal matters, end of life decisions and inheritance rights. Marriage is serious business not to be entered into lightly with just anyone. (although judging from the behavior of half the couples who marry you'd never know that) Everyone should be allowed to marry mr./ms. right regardless of gender.”

rudyinbama replied on Dec 05, 2009 at 01:24:16

“No need to move.
While you're marriage may not be respected if you live in a state with a full of bigots (like where I live), you can go to Connecticut, get your license and be legally married the same day. How wonderful that there are states that treat people equally with dignity and respect.”

If you want to get this government's attention, stop feeding the abuser. TAX REVOLT. NOW.

Think STONEWALL, but NATIONWIDE. Let the theocrats pay for their theocracy.”

RayinDC replied on Dec 04, 2009 at 01:14:22

“Agreed about the moral bickering, but there are some religious folks out there (not the extreme rightists, of course) that do listen to reason. Also, I don't think that taxpayer revolt is the way to go (doing that lumps you in with the teabagger crowd).”

“Marriage IN-equality is Government-Approved CHILD ABUSE. When a child is prevented from seeing their dying mother because "she's not REALLY family" - that is PURE EVIL. When children walk to school and see yard signs that promote HARMING their family through ballot box terrorism, that is evil. I'm waiting for the day when a doctor or nurse gets a bullet through the head or strangled because they were inhuman enough to prevent a family from being together during one of the most devastating times a family could ever experience.”
