“"Even if she never wins another election, Palin will continue to be the darling of men like Rupert Murdoch and media operations like Fox News, simply because nobody advances the Conservative agenda with more folksy charm and chutzpah."

Very well put”

President Obama and Gay Rights: Forgetting the Lessons of the Campaign

Commented Nov 05, 2009 at 18:36:45 in Politics

“Trust me, CarsandTrucks, that there are many Liberals who strongly support the concept of Civil Unions. And we are real tired of the PC Stalinist Gay Marriage advocates whining and screaming that its not enough.”

Jaidit replied on Nov 06, 2009 at 03:46:02

“Okay, so here's the deal:

You work to put civil unions on the table. They don't exist. We need a set of bills that would establish civil unions in all 50 states and at the federal government. They, of course, have to be equal to marriage in all respects. Make this happen.

Give us that and I think most gay people would be happy.

Creating the separate-but-equal civil unions would be a monumental task of duplicative effort. And the social conservatives would fight you every step of the way. Look at Washington State and their domestic partners bill (or the series of legal challenges that domestic partnerships faced in California).

As difficult as achieving marriage equality might be, I think the only thing more difficult would be getting a parallel institution created de novo.

You work on the civil unions. I'm going to keep fighting for full equality.”

FearlessFreep replied on Nov 05, 2009 at 23:23:46

President Obama and Gay Rights: Forgetting the Lessons of the Campaign

Commented Nov 05, 2009 at 18:30:58 in Politics

“Including Maine, Gay Marriage initiatives have now failed in 32 elections. That GM advocates are still loudly complaining that Obama and the Democrats should support Gay Marriage only proves that these advocates are not only putting their goals ahead of those of the Dems, but could care less about the latter.

If they were more honest, GM advocates would put a lot more energy into supporting groups such as Marriage Equality USA.”

“Buchanan's Praise For Hitler

In 1977, Buchanan wrote:

"Those of us in childhood during the war years were introduced to Hitler only as caricature. ... Though Hitler was indeed racist and anti-Semitic to the core, a man who without compunction could commit murder and genocide, he was also an individual of great courage, a soldier's soldier in the Great War, a political organizer of the first rank, a leader steeped in the history of Europe, who possessed oratorical powers that could awe even those who despised him."

He went on to say:

"Hitler's success was not based on his extraordinary gifts alone. His genius was an intuitive sense of the mushiness, the character flaws, the weakness masquerading as morality that was in the hearts of the statesmen who stood in his path."

BigBagel replied on Sep 04, 2009 at 09:54:29

“Hitler was a despicable man but a despicable man can be a gifted man and even a man of bravery. Men like Hitler and Stalin would never have risen to the heights that they did without certain personal attributes that enabled them to do so. To point this out in no way makes someone a Nazi or Stalinist sympathizer.”

Cantinflas replied on Sep 04, 2009 at 09:51:41

“If Hitler hadn't had political skill and the powers to persuade he wouldn't have been successful in advancing his evil agenda.”

Cantinflas replied on Sep 04, 2009 at 09:45:59

“I don't care at all for for Pat Buchanan and his cavalier attitude toward the truth, but I don't know that I would call those quotes praise but rather a recognition of skill and talent, which we know was applied in the furtherence of an evil agenda. Much the same could be said for the 9/11 plotters, but that would not constitute an endorsement of their diabolical act.”

“That the inarguably right-wing Pat Buchanan has in the past ( and now once again ) defended Hitler proves that the conservative throng of Hitler-was-a-leftist theories are nothing but Orwellian doublethink revisionism. To put it politely.”

The Kennedy Legacy vs. Glenn Beck's Lies About Reform "Murdering" Small Businesses

Commented Aug 31, 2009 at 09:16:03 in Politics

“Regarding the ad by efca.jacksonlewis.com:

"Jackson Lewis presents itself as a reputable "national workplace law firm," yet under its polished veneer lies a for-profit unionbuster. In fact, Jackson Lewis is one of the oldest and largest union avoidance law firms in the nation. Jackson Lewis counsels businesses on labor relations strategies that prevent unions from entering the workplace. By operating in the shadows of corporate unionbusting campaigns, the firm remains virtually unknown to the general public."
