“We send in 30,000 troops to end the war. Get it? Me neither. But because the president says it's so, then half the country believes it. What do you call that? Authoritarian conservatism?”

Dubee replied on Dec 05, 2009 at 10:32:17

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. ~John Stewart Mill”

“I don't buy it. This is conjecture, as if our military had a crystal ball to know what would happen if they pulled out.

The big hole in your argument for staying is what you say is the problem in the first place. We shouldn't be there. Going in to begin with made this mess. Staying there proliferates the mess even worse. The longer we stay the more hate is built against us; the more terroism is proliferated.

It makes a lot more sense to get out of Afghanistan and go after al Qaeda directly. Military experts have said as much. The Taliban is nothing more to us than Al Qaeda's hotel. We are spending too much money, killing too many innocent people and wasting too many American lives for a nebulous cause. You can't say what our goal is there or what we could hope to accomplish. It's all total bullshit, money for oil, money for the military industrial complex.”

“Wrong. It IS that simple. Moore is spot on with his analysis. Our involvement as "liberators" (which effectively amounts to proliferators of the Taliban and terrorism since killing so many innocent Afghans is their greatest recruitment tool) is in vain. Our troops fight and die in vain. This is another Vietnam. Many knowledgeable people, scholars and statesmen, have said as much.

You probably think we should have stayed in Vietnam too.”

MarsAmbassador replied on Oct 10, 2009 at 15:32:41

“No, we shouldn't have gotten involved in EITHER of them. Of COURSE this is a mess without a winning solution, that is my entire point! We stay in we inflame them, we pull out it's 10 times worse than when we went in. We should stay out of the affairs of other countries and we wouldn't have this blowback! We created Saddam Hussein to fight the Islamic Revolution. But the Islamic Revolution only existed because we overthrew their democratically elected leaders in the 50s, installing our favored dictator The Shah. Well, in the late 70s the Iranian people finally had enough of him and started a revolution. It wasn't an Islamic revolution, it was a normal freedom-loving revolution that started off exactly like the protests there this year, with normal people marching and calling on the rooftops at night. The Islamic extremists subjugated that movement and installed themselves as the new dictators. That is EXACTLY what is happening in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We create these environments where the religious extremists are able to take over the movement and install themselves in positions of power. We have handed the ENTIRE Middle East over to religious extremists. WE did that, WE made it happen. Things aren't so simple as "we need to pull out and everything will go to normal". First off, there IS no normal. Secondly, everything will go exactly opposite of what we had hoped.”

Marxist-led parasites the world over celebrate the destruction of the Freedom of the People in order to facilitate their plunder. Hence, Obama's fear of actually caring about the Persian People's freedom and personal powers (their hopes and dreams) forces him to hide behind fake words like the modernized pc Chamberlain he is.”

“Obama may be Cute and Cuddly, but he’s not Housebroken

I had kittens when I was young. When you first get a kitten they are so cute and cuddly. But they pee and crap all over the place until you house train them. How do you do that? There is one very fast and fool proof way. Rub their noses in their crap.

The President has stated he will not release photos of torture carried out by the U.S. The argument is that this release would endanger the lives of Americans. Meanwhile, it’s obvious the photos would implicate the U.S. and the Obama administration, even though the torture was carried out in the previous administration.

Our country and our leaders need to have their noses rubbed in the crap they do. They need to take a good long look at the death, pain, suffering and destruction these wars are. Look at the lost limbs, the dead infants and toddlers, the devastated families, the broken bodies of our GIs, their broken families, their lost wages of never being able to work again. Take a good long hard look at those pictures, show them to the American people and then once again. tell us why these wars are so necessary. Tell us why wars that proliferate terrorism, instead of quelling it, are necessary.

“Our attitude as Americans -- "I am bigger so I can ignore YOU" to the rest of the world is what created the conditions for 9/11. Its unfortunate that most Americans cannot see that the hatred that we have generated in the world is for the most part self-inflicted based on superiority and arrogance.

If the US is not careful we are going to get hit again for the same reasons that brought the nation 9/11. It will be a sad day - yet we WILL NOT be able to pretend that we didn't know. We will be able to say that we chose to ignore the information provided to us.”

“that may be the dumbest crap i have evre read. It is not the President's decision to actually release the photos, it is up to the court. Obama expressed concern for our troops, wish is his job as CIC.

We already have lots of photos that prove torture. are you blood thirsty? Please don't talk about military families feel, because I am one of them.

While I don't always agree with the President, I respect his decisions. NOBODY"S PERFECT.”

What if your neighborhood was occupied by a U.S. military force in an effort to find "terrorists"? What if they bombed out your street and your children were killed or maimed in the process? What would you do? What do you think the Iraqi and Afghan people should do?

Regulatory systems were lessened to the point of being ineffectual. There has to be accountability. AIG was making money from doing nothing and still they wanted more. This horrible greed out of a house of cards. They have helped themselves to government financing 4 times. They remain arrogant and greedy. I hope the government steps in and takes them over.
