“Agree totally, but as humans we are born, grow up and die. We all have to learn as children and what is written within the society we grow up in is what we in general ultimately follow. Therefore, all changes happens slowly and it takes at least one generation for acceptance. It is rather simple really, and if we all could understand a bit more, it would all be so much easier - but we all know that trhis is not the fact and therefore we will have all the issues that surrounds changes. Just wait for the gun nuts to even acknowledge that they cannot have an arsenal of assault weapons in their bedroom..........”

“That's the whole point of the conversation Alisha. You can move it back even further to women's right to vote, worker's right to unionize and so on. In the end, there will be changes, but people wants changes NOW, and that's not going to happen. Changes happens gradually, not in an instance.”

Alisha Dixon on Feb 22, 2013 at 16:09:03

“All I can say is that I understand their frustration and yes, it took many years for women to earn the right to vote, for African-Americans to be treated as equals, for children to gain rights as people and not property. Yes, all of these things took many years and in the process many people fought and died for these levels of equality.

...And now we look back in the history books and can't help but feel ashamed at what these people had to go through, just for equality? 4 little girls had to die in a church in Alabama, just so that I could sit next to a white person in a classroom or on a bus? What a great loss for such a simple right...How many people must die so that other's can be viewed as equal and how much sense does that make?

Yes, change does come eventually, but the process is one that leaves a black mark on this country. We make people fight and die all for the right to enjoy a basic principle this country is founded on? Are gays and lesbians not citizens? Is equality not our birthright?

This change needs to happen gradually because of ignorance and fear and prejudice. There is not physical pain, it's not like easing into a hot bath, there is nothing to get "use" to. Either we are a county of equalit or we are not. Either the LGBT community are citizens, or we are not. When we”

“Personally, I don't find any issues with anyone getting married, gay or straight, but I believe that the gay community needs to understand that as this is a relatively new happening for the common American, especially for the tea party evangelists in the south. It will take time for this to sink in and within this generation, it will be totally accepted even by normal and intelligent humans from areas now very intolerant with anything not southern baptist, white and straight. You can't change traditional beliefs in just a few months or years so relax and watch the changes as they are coming. The more agitation, the more you will find the unintelligible vocally rejecting it until nobody listens to them anymore.”

Taylor95 on Feb 19, 2013 at 16:12:36

“It's not new. Gay marriage was made legal in Massachusettes in 2004...almost 10 years ago. That's a decade of dealing with it legally...and many decades before that dealing with trying to get it accepted.

They are coming...it's legal in 15 countries and 10 states in the US & DC...”

“Hmmmm....it's interesting to read some of these post because soooo many of them can easily be changed to decribe race relations in the 1950's & 60's in this country. Equality was "new" and "different" back then and back then, people fought, shouted, marched and disrupted the normal course of things in order to be treated equally. I see nothing wrong with the LGBT community using the same actions and trust me, people will listen.”

“What's odd and sad is that you are demonstrating how the common American is so very, very far behind. Time to catch up. Marriage equality was adopted nationally by neighboring Canada in 2005. Injustice, intolerance, homophobia, hatred are never things anyone should have to accept just to make others feel more comfy.”

“Comments such as "game over for the planet", and "a 0.36-degree Celsius uptick" should be viewed as rather important for the continuation of life for us human beings. Interesting that very few really cares of such damages that we are doing to our own existence and the bleak future we are facing unless we do start to do something. It's not a simple task, but when we have intelligent people arguing against any measures that we need to be taking........ Even the comments on this blog is very few compared to stuff that people really care about, such as assault weapons (which really is a drop in the water) and cute cats and teachers who have a porn past.”

“As leaders have certain qualitative abilities to be able to lead, many also lead by other virtues. No leader is cut out from a perfect leader mold as we are systematically controlled to believe in. In the USA, we are accepting a leader to be legally corrupt as our ideology and system demands this. If the leader are exposed of sexual “misconduct”, the leader (as Petreus) have to resign. In, for example Scandinavian countries, it is the opposite, if the leader is corrupt or doesn’t follow ethical law, resignation is obvious. A French politician who has a mistress is socially accepted. The conclusion is that very clear, it all depends on the countries culture what is allowed or not, and therefore we have many affairs not being exposed or recognized which, as historically proven, have nothing to do with the ability to lead.”

Reading some of the negative comments made by misinformed or blatantly non caring individuals are sad, but the reality in our country. Think about it in very simple terms and there is an important choice to make come November - rolling back the years of progress and live like we did in the 50's or take responsibilities that we owe the future generations! We will see change in the coming years, but the change doesn't move backwards - it looks to the future. Simple as that, moviestar or not.”

How We Can Bring Millions of Americans to the Middle Class

Commented Sep 4, 2012 at 04:20:10 in Politics

“When the gold standard where abolished after a long run of American exports creating a surplus an ingenious idea was set during the Nixon admin by Fed Chairman Volcker. As the surplus had turned to deficit, the plan was put in place to continue the large import that the consumer driven US and use the deficit to make profit, hence the boom in derivatives and other financial instruments that we now see the result of in today’s financial crisis and systematic errors. Therefore, we are facing a much larger issue as the democratic capitalism we are now living in is in its last breath and to bring back the middle class as being described is as much a dream as the republican ideology prevent any further crisis by giving money to the rich. As the largest consumer nation in the world, the US needs to continue the massive imports in order to keep the world economy running as it does. This is not something you hear being discussed in the open, something the owners of this country does not want the public to understand.”

“Pot makes it's users happy, I believe it's a good start compared to most of big pharma's products where more of the kind of snake oil can be found. What is synthetic made "medication" compared to naturally grown plant material which have been used by humans for as long as we can remember? Come on, the whole discussion about marijuana is getting ridiculous when it's opposers can find all kinds of reasons for not legalizing it. It's a plant that is much safer than tobacco, cheaper to produce than any medicinal drug, alcohol and proven not harmful to it's users. Tax it and sell it, it will add to the state and federal income and make the border to mexico much safer as you'll take away a great deal of the reason for the illegal drug smuggling. Also, benefit the farmers of hemp out there!”

This is not a forward looking view when a party is attempting to take the country backwards instead of looking forward, but a great strategy in order to appeal to all the backyard opposition to abortion and other views unacceptable to the evangelical league. I presume they are scratching the bottom of the barrel to get enough ammunition. $5 Gallon: The Romney-Koch Price of Gas

Commented Aug 27, 2012 at 02:27:34 in Green

“There will be no "energy Independence" as Romney and the Koch's proposal so eloquently is being described. What has to be remembered is the whole platform on which the US and the world economy is based upon since the the Nixon/Volcker era. When the gold standard was abolished after US surplus went to deficit, Volcker drew up the start of what we now see an escalated end in the near future, namely to draw profits from the deficit. This means that the US as the prime consumer in the world needs to import a billion dollars worth a month in order to keep the scheme rolling. This include import of oil and other products.”

How to Fearlessly Quit Smoking

Commented Jul 26, 2012 at 21:50:38 in Healthy Living

“In order to quit smoking you first and foremost must WANT TO STOP SMOKING! It is a simple process which involves you and nothing else. Patches and hypnosis etc. will only work if you really want to stop smoking. If you find various reasons for starting smoking, then think again; you will always find reasons for smoking if you really try! It's more than willpower and there is no simple solution. Just ask yourself: "Do I really want to stop smoking", if the answer is a strong yes, then you've gotten farther than most and you will win the struggle!”

VJ Sleight MA TTS on Jul 28, 2012 at 12:56:43

Jeff Fisher on Jul 9, 2012 at 03:54:19

“Sorry, we don't have capitalism. We obviously have a centrally planned economy that is failing badly, as all centrally planned economies do. The fundamental problem is the fake currency that can be created out of thin air without limits. Obviously, there can be no real market, no fair competition, no democracy, and a guaranteed failure as all fiat currencies throughout history have failed miserably. Wake up please! We haven't had capitalism since before the socialistic government central planning that created the monopolies of the Robber Barrons and spurred more socialized government power in the name of the "progressive" movement. Socialism is a means for the 1% to transfer wealth from the middle class and the working poor under the cloak of fairness, compassion, or progressive planning. It is as always a charade to fool the masses. “The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the larger centers has owned the Government ever since the days of Andrew Jackson.” ~ Franklin Delano Roosevelt”

It's not what is wanted by the citizens but a continuing wrangling between the political fractions within the parties. I believe that the legalization of marijuana will be used as a political play towards the end of the election process. The one who uses that will get the younger votes and I don't believe that the Romney camp would dare to even touch something that is so politically loaded. If Obama suddenly becomes in favor of legalization, the younger voters will turn up just as 2008.”
