Please ?”

“Yes, but I've also already checked all the comments left by iAmAmerican2010. There has only been a single on deleted. It was this: "moderators ONLY: May I have the profile photo updated. I spent hours working on that picture and having it is the only communication I have from you that my posts will be allowed." (We deleted it because it started "moderators ONLY," but I have published it now.)

Thus, I'm still confused and would still appreciate anyone's attempts to clarify what's going on--or, indeed, whether anything real is going on at all.”

I'm very confused about what is going on here. I just don't see the comments that folks are concerned were (or may have been) deleted. I can't find them within our backend. I can see every comment--published or deleted--left by the account whose username is ejackson21st. “Josh, there was a comment by iAmAmerican2010 in the Social News window that included the words
"i am not on facebook. i don’t have twitter. most of my friends
are dead. i will never be a CM2. As a slave i was counted as
3/5th of a man. Here… i am 1/5th. My voice is easily and

That comment described a series of comments iAmAmerican2010 was having difficulty making. I'm sorry, but I didn't save the whole thing.”

“I'm just seeing this. The ones that did not get posted that you say you are not seeing were addressed to MODERATORS ONLY. The moderators knew I was going to submit 3 posts, and they froze the thread for an hour or so before they even saw what it was that my posts were going to say.

I posted to the moderators my frustration and in my post directed to them (which I did not expect that they needed to display on the thread) I informed informed them of the info that I planned to post, giving them them the exact text of my personal comments and the link to the song lyrics I wanted to post. As you would expect, I heard nothing back from them.

If you check the traffic and the pending rates beginning shortly after 11:30 am for an hour or more you will see my (ejackson21st) post being shut out, not posted, not nuked, but sitting in pending as many of us sat and stared at the screen. After I contacted them personally, one of my posts which was to be public was nuked, the ones I directed to MODERATORS ONLY, disappeared as well. As far as I know only bdaved ran across them and was able to quote what I had said in the MODERATORS ONLY post. I have not yet seen any of it anywhere.”

I was using the word in the third transitive sense, as defined by MW.”

“You're so right, Josh, but not in cases such as the one quoted by h2. This would work: "I just can't abide the new rules."
That said... now musing about the rich irony of this thread. How HP's program o engineer a larger, more salivating, community of users managed to forge a small but vigorous one right here, among dissenters.”

SparklyLady on May 11, 2010 at 19:45:52

“Yes, I see that +1 comment in Activity, too. Yet, it doesn't show up on the board. What's up with that?

Besides, what did +1 stand for? Is that TwitterTalk? Speak to me in English, Josh? Were you trying to say that I'm No. 1?”

bdaved on May 11, 2010 at 19:41:11

“Forgive me for leading you into that little digression, Josh. I thought you might have merely omitted the word by accident. I, speaking as someone entirely capable (and guilty) of misspelling the word "ain't", certainly understand how those things happen, but thanks for clearing that up. Returning to the sentence that pulled that dictionary out in the first place, I would bet it's a familiar experience to many of us who frequent these pages to see innocuous comments disappear into thin air, never to be seen. You can even look at that Social News window up there, and at someone's activity page, and see things that don't get posted. For instance, I notice on your own activity page a "+1" from 2 hours or so ago that doesn't seem to be anywhere else (I first noticed it in that window). Not a very significant example, but an example nonetheless.
This is where I think you could do a lot of good with a blog post, explaining why innocuous comments are moderated out so often.”

bdaved on May 11, 2010 at 16:45:38

“I was being a little facetious, Josh, I beg your indulgence; but you're kind of making things worse there. You didn't mean that your intention was, per your dictionary there, "to conform to" the rules? "Accepting without objection" and "conforming to" are significantly different.
I see you're moving up in the world a bit badge-wise. Do you think there might be a tiny conflict of interest involved there, since part of your job is "managing a set of moderators who make sure that all our comments are-- try to make sure that all of our comments are-- basically polite"?”
