“Imagine two bicycle rims set so their perimeters almost touch.

Now, put a rock on one rim and a blue marble on the other.

Orient each rim to where the rock point on its rim is as far as can be with the blue marble point on the other rim.

Now, slowly rotate both rims equally 180 degrees bringing each object closer to each other.

From the perspective of both rock or marble points on the two rims it will appear each is getting closer to the other until they almost touch but as they continue on their courses and pass their closest approach to each other it will appear one has turned around from the other but in reality it's just both continuing on their two separate paths of motion.”
