“Nope - actually it had everything to do with outside pressure in the form of other universities refusing to play BYU. The possibility being locked out of big-money college sports had a great deal to do the sudden revelation from God about the status of black men.”

“The problem is that it's not 'illegal immigrants' that have bankrupted the health care system. It's people that do not have access to affordable health insurance, and are too poor to pay the bills when they finally receive care. Are some of them in the country illegally? Without a doubt. Will they stop needing medical care if we just ignore them? No way. Will tax dollars keep reimbursing public hospitals for their care? Of course.”

“You live in an interesting world. There's no such thing as birth control failure (you perhaps aren't aware that even when used perfectly, there is no 100% effective birth control method, right?), and unwanted pregnancies only result when women are irresponsible - but no mention of the men. And even if the pregnancy is a result of irresponsible behavior, you seem to find it perfectly reasonable for a woman to not only have to deal with it for the rest of her life, but to have to deal with it by bringing an unwanted child into the world, so that the innocent child also has to deal with it for a lifetime. A lifetime of atonement for a 5 minute lapse seems a bit much.”

“I didn't pull the 'level playing field' phrase out of the thin air. Of course, I suppose it's within the realm of possibility that all of the whining and moaning about the unfairness of it all doesn't indicate that the Republicans want the situation changed.

And it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that a fat man will come down the chimney in a red suit overnight on December 24th and leave presents for the good boys and girls. I imagine that both possibilities are equally plausible.”

“So, "leveling the playing field" with affirmative action for minorities and women is bad.

But "leveling the playing field" on Twitter with affirmative action for Republicans is good and necessary.

I'm going to go beat my head against the wall until this makes sense.”

If their candidates arent active on twitter and dont have many followers, why would the service recommend them as someone to follow?

What republicans want is affirmative action at its worst, the sterotype they whine about ALL the time:

"Why should someone who does nothing get equal or preferential treatment when I work so hard"”

“I'm sure the contract was written up by the company's corporate lawyers. And it's entirely legal (although if the provision is hidden in some way from the employee prior to signing, it's possible the contract could be voided).

It's illegal to contract with someone to have them perform an illegal activity, but it's entirely legal to contract with someone to give up his/her rights. Wrong, but legal.”

“That may depend on your definition of Christian. If you use the commonly accepted modern definition, which includes believing in the divinity of Jesus of Nazareth, however, there were no Christians for quite a few years after the death of Jesus - and probably not for many years after the establishment of the church (and the death of Peter). The early followers of the teachings of Jesus did not believe in his divinity; he was revered as a teacher and a prophet. (Not to mention a liberal radical.)

The first followers of Christ, however, were Jewish.”

“So it's OK to put a cross on the grave of someone who isn't Christian simply because most people are? People who are not Christian should just shut the hell up and deal with it, because they're outnumbered? It doesn't appear to be just the atheists that are indignant about having to make room for another point of view. You're not exactly cornering the market on tolerance yourself.”

“Not the point. The voters in DC and the city council don't actually get to make their own laws. That's the point of the article - that the Congress, full of people that were NOT chosen by the people of DC and do NOT represent the people of DC, has reserved for itself the right to overrule the decisions made by the city council.”

“No, the article is looking at the first oral arguments for a new justice on the court, and noting that the new justice is already more involved in the process than a justice that has been on the bench for years, and has become noteworthy for what seems to be his determination to avoid ever taking part in oral arguments.

For habitual court-watchers, Thomas' lack of involvement is legendary, mystifying, and a source of endless speculation that has nothing to do with race. How better to point out a contrast than to say that the newest member of the court - the member most people might expect to be reticent while she gets a feel for the process - is already more involved than Thomas has been in his entire career?”

“The statute of limitation does not apply in this case because of the circumstances and the charges. While news reports always refer to Polanski as being wanted for sex charges, that isn't actually the case. Polanski has pled guilty to those charges. The warrant that has existed all this time is actually a fugitive warrant - he fled to avoid incarceration. The clock basically stops ticking while he's a fugitive.”
