Is This as Good as It Gets From Obama?

“Amen...Oba ma is not a leader...H e is constantly working on his image and is in constant campaign mode. I voted for him but feel like my vote was wasted.
The only people Obama seems anxious to please are his corporate donors and the Republicans.
Obama is and always has been the consumate politician ...He can say the right things, but when he chooses Wall Street insiders like Emanuel, Geithner, Rubin, and Summers to help oversee their cronies in the banking industry, we're in big trouble--putting the foxes in charge of the hen house.
Let's face it...Obama is a player in our corrupt pay-to-play system. Until we get public financing for all candidates, big money will rule this country.”

Why Joe Biden Should Resign

“Colin Powell knew that we shouldn't invade Iraq, but instead of standing up for principle, he went along like a "good soldier."
Going along with the program in Afghanistan, when it will bankrupt our country for future generations, and recruit more terrorists, is dead wrong...Jo e, please help us stop this train wreck.
Afghanistan is the "graveyard of empires." It broke the back of the British and Russians--two huge empires... We should be working to improve Pakistan instead, and should use some of that $65 billion to create jobs for all the people who are suffering here.”

“This isnot a matter of lying and willfully deceiving the public in order to be a team player. Powell went before the UN nations and put forth information in favor of war that he knew or ought to have know was questionable at best. This is a debate as to what is the best and most realistic approach towards Afghanistan. Arianna assumes that her and Biden have the same views when it comes to Afghanistan and then she takes a leap in logic that becuase he does think like her he should resign. It is a pretty rediculous argument to try and make. She came across as being rather silly on CNN.”

“Sing that sob story to me while we're all safely back home and all of a sudden find ourselves under terrorist attacks every few months.
American favorabiity in Afghanistan is 47%, down from 85% in 2005. The majority of the Afghanis want us to stay. None of the 'graveyard empires' had that popularity. The fact is the Afghanis probably don't like us being there but they DESPISE the Taliban. The Taliban is a radical religions sub-group of Peshtuns and number about 20,000 whereas there are 42 million Peshtuns in Afk-Pak.
I want to get out too but we need to think more than one step ahead here. I'm not a war-monger and neither is Obama. IMHO I think we got those guys by the nuts and we need to work our way to their throat. Letting Obama know what we want, to get it over with, is fine but give the guy some maneuvering room to do it right.

“The entire administration including Powell caught on to the fact that they were trying to propagate a lie in the court of public opinion. The state department found errors in fact and only omitted some leaving in ample fake evidence to invade. He didnt announce a resignation until after Hussein was deposed amid an attempt to garner support for reform in the intelligence community to prevent a future scenario like that one.
Powell resigning before the war would have accomplished nothing. Biden resigning now would accomplish nothing. Ultimately, Obama or mccrystal must come to their senses and figure out when enough is enough. Its really hard to try to rationalize almost doubling the number of troops in afghanistan after being there for the better half of a decade already - far too reminiscent of vietnam which was defined by its ridulous length without major accomplishment and its slow but steady troop escalation that resulted in the crushing defeat of the democratic party as it split and crumbled leading to a republican congress and presidency. I really hope Obama is looking to LBJ on this one as there are countless parallels between Obama now and LBJ trying to push through medicare both of whom had a laundry list of social reforms that could decide their presidency and both of whom were debating an escalation of an already shaky war that could rapidly lose public support at any time.”

“You are wrong. The powell/biden situations are not analogous; Powell ENDORSED what he thought was wrong. Biden is politely but firmly dissenting, which is the right move, the ONLY mature move.

“Did you read all of this excellent post? Do you have any idea what it means to much of the world to have an American president who REALLY listens to others? Listening and speaking are acts in their own right. Also, surely ushering in a sea change in foreign policy, banning torture, recognizing the need for action against climate change are big steps for a country that has been so far behind in so many ways. Certainly, we expect more from Obama, but let's stop acting so American and let's stop belittling another country's gesture. We are being just too arrogant.”

“President Obama is not change. He is a player in D.C.'s "pay to play" system. His decisions are carefully calculated to please his huge campaign donors--Wall Street, the health industry, and the coal industry.
Just google "Barack Obama's donors" and you'll find out why Obama makes the decisions he does.
Until we have mandatory public financing for all candidates, politicians will continue to worry more about being re-elected than serving the common good.”

How can we entrust our nation's economy to a man who "forgot" to pay his taxes four times, and who was part of the Federal Reserve when many of these problems were surfacing?
Geithner seems to be more of the problem than the solution.. .
We need fresh blood in Washington ....not more political insiders.”

“Obama is saying the right things, but his actions speak louder than words.
If we truly want to solve this culture of corporate corruption, we need to rid the cabinet of corporate puppets.
The next phase of the bail-out, focused on the banks, is poised to reward the very CEOs who got us into this mess, with no limit to the stock options they can take out.
Working class and poor families are suffering. Throwing good money after bad is not the solution.
Let's create jobs and help "the little guy."”

John Edwards for Labor Secretary
Commented Nov 25, 2008 at 23:57:35 in Politics
“John Edwards is the best choice, hands down, for Labor Secretary. He led the way for working class and poor families, and made the term "union" a household word again. With his vision of "One America," he constantly reminded us that the government is supposed to work for all of us, not just the powerful special interests.
How refreshing it would be for my party, the Democratic Party, to actually reward political courage, and have Senator Edwards as Labor Secretary.
He would do us proud!”

the Wall Street backer Obama has made so far.
Is not change what Obama is supposed to be about?
John Edwards is for the workers and unions, i.e. Main Street, not Wall Street.
Listen to what he said to Obama doing one of the Presidential debates.

“We need John Edwards. He was the only statesman in the race. I miss his intelligence, integrity, and candor...
He had the wisdom and the vision we need in a president, with plans to help us "little guys." He was the most progressive and electable of the Democrats.
Sadly, many Democrats voting in the primaries let the media tell them who to vote for.
Will we ever learn?”

Elizabeth is all over the news talking about Hillary's plan and Hillary announced her plan to appoint a Poverty "czar" to end poverty in America, who do you think she has in mind? Edwards said, when he dropped out, he would endorse the candidate that would fulfill his goal of eliminating poverty in America. Seems obvious to me where the Edward's allegiance is.”

“That's a pretty condescending attitude toward your fellow Democrats. Your obvious suggestion is that you were smart and savvy enough so that didn't let the media tell you whom to vote for; why are you so quick to assume that you're unique in that respect?”

“John Edwards lost because he could never stake a position. He kept trying to play cutthroat with Obama and Clinton, and might I add, was horribly outmatched. The other two not only had well-defined positions but had created large well-organized campaigns - Obama's completely from scratch. John Edwards lacked a message with deep resonance and often appeared lost whirlwind of debates. I imagine this is why he rarely made it out of the single digits. I doubt you can blame his incredibly poor showing entirely on the media.”

“Despite being ignored by the M$M, Edwards' momentum is surging. Not only is he on top to win in Iowa, but his numbers are surging in NH and SC as people start getting serious about the impending election and looking at the candidates and the issues.
Edwards is the only candidate with guts--he has led by putting all his policies out there way before the others and has received the backing of Friends of the Earth, Iowans for Sensible Priorities, United Steelworkers, United Mineworkers, Transportation Workers of America, United Brotherhood of Carpenters, 12 SEIU state councils, Iowa Postal Workers (AFL/CIO), etc.
Why? Because Edwards has been fighting on behalf of working families against corporate abuse his whole life, and because he is the most electable Democrat.
My experience has been that Edwards has a wide appeal to Dems, Republicans, and Independents--they like his straight talk, his courage, and his strong stands for working class families.
He will make a great president.”

“Hillary Clinton cannot win a general election. The most recent Zogby Poll shows that Edwards is the most electable--he beat or tied all the Republicans, which was better than any of the other Dems. Hillary Clinton lost to every Republican. In another recent survey, 52% of those surveyed said they would definitely not vote for Senator Clinton.
Edwards has the best plans for the working class, the best plans for Iraq, the environment, and health care...He is also the most electable Democrat (see Rasmussen Reports since last spring). He is the Dems' best hope of regaining the White House.”

“Actually, John Edwards has the best chance of winning the White House. If you look at the Rasmussen Reports since last spring, time after time, John Edwards comes out on top of all the other Democrats when matched against the all the Republicans. He also is very well-liked by Republicans--high positive ratings... people of all parties like Edwards' populist message and his value of hard work.
Edwards is the fighter we need right now to take on the powerful interests in D.C. and in the Democratic Party. He is also the only candidate who has never taken a dime of lobbyist money.
Obama is intelligent and well-spoken, but he is not enough of a fighter, and he is awash in big money. He is part of the system.
We need to change the system. Go, Edwards!”
