ConservativeTransparency.org: Peeling Off Conservatives' AstroTurf Mask
Commented Nov 05, 2009 at 00:45:52 in Politics
“This is a great start but it's incomplete. The problem is that many of these organizations do not have to file 990s, so you have about half the information. I'd suggest that anyone researching conservative orgs start with this database, then head over to opensecrets to pick up the FEC info, then look into the corporate records. As a start. I've been researching these orgs for the past 3 months more or less non-stop. It goes deep, wide, and in a very wide circle.”

“If one digs deep enough one will see that organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan are funded by local businessmen, especially in the South.
The guys in $1,500 suits don't have the cojones to do their own dirty work, so they hire thugs with IQ's of a gorilla to do it for them. Same thing occurred in the 30's when labor was organizing. The bosses hired thugs to beat, tar and feather union organizers.
Not much has changed in 70 + years. Only now the thugs have computers and are fully protected by the reactionary Supreme Court.”

Nixonland: Murder in the Cathedral

“Interesting that you'd review a book over a year after its publication, at a time in our history where the Nixon legacy comes to fruition in the context of our health care debate. I can see that the axiom holds true: those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Your review gives me great hope that the GOP will continue to be the party of the fringe, consigning themselves to the sidelines of national politics.”
So it Begins -- the August Attack on Health Care Reform

“Just for the record, I posted a debunking much earlier in the week with more thorough references, as did Politifact. Because I'm most interested in seeing the truth set free from the idiot (and it was only one guy) who started all this, I'm not going to make a fuss over it. More myth debunking is taking place at http://healthcarereformmyths.org, a site maintained by dedicated citizens with nothing to gain but possibly some intellectually honest debate.”

“Please do link to the post you mentioned. The purpose of mine was to respond to the people who had sent it to me, and for that reason my responses were more simplistic . You are right. The more we work at debunking these attacks, the better off we will be. It's a bit of an uphill battle I'm afraid.”
Teacher's Pop-Up Porn Nightmare Ends, Sort Of
Commented Nov 25, 2008 at 11:53:15 in Living
“Michael Regan went just about as low as he could. When the judge overturned the verdict it was HUGE. Prior to the intervention of Alex and his group of volunteer forensic experts, the judge believed that Julie was as guilty as they could get. The evidence presented convinced her, yet Regan stuck stubbornly to his belief that she was guilty and hasn't let go yet.
Just goes to show that one doesn't have to have a clue what they're talking about to go into court and pretend they know. The jurors were frightening, too. They believed that grayed links were some sort of proof that Julie had clicked on the porn links.
It's just completely absurd! Yet not funny in the least, since Julie Amero's life is forever changed, and not for the better. In January after Rick Green of the Hartford Courant wrote a post about how he wanted to see her exonerated, she was fired from her job at Home Depot. Why? Because they didn't want a porn-surfing ex-teacher to sully their fine reputation.
Can you believe this stuff? I couldn't make it up!!!!
Justice will be seeing Regan tossed out of public office and Mark Lounsbury chained to a desk. Thank God good guys like Alex Eckelberry and the group of people who literally spent days and nights working on this were able to get this far. She could easily have been retried...”

Kucinich Too Boring? Steve Jobs Presents iPeachment 08!
Commented Jun 10, 2008 at 13:09:23 in Politics
“Nirek, you missed the point. This doesn't poke fun at Kucinich, it takes a real hit on the news-consuming public alongside the idiotic editors, who haven't bothered to even report this, much less lead off their broadcasts with it. It's STUNNING to me that articles of impeachment can be read into the record by Kucinich and yet there's not a breath of reportage of it on the broadcasts news that reaches Ma and Pa sitting in their chairs thinking Fox News is the authority on all that's holy in our government.
Completely astonishing.
Maybe if we spoon-feed it in soundbites someone will finally GET IT.”

“The only cable news program that would likely give this attention would be Countdown on MSNBC. Olberman should have Kucinich on tonight for the full hour as he did with McClellan.”
The Sleazy GOP Attack Machine Kicks Into High Gear: Welcome to "F**K Whitey" and "RadicalVille"
Commented Jun 07, 2008 at 00:19:03 in Politics
“Radical isn't a bad thing unless you're one of the groups profiting from GOP incompetence and corruption. Hannity won't have a job when the GOP is irrelevant, so he has to do his whining now.”
The Vice Presidency of Al Gore, 2009-2017
Commented Jun 06, 2008 at 19:31:18 in Politics
“You're joking, right? Al Gore is far, far more effective outside of politics than he ever would be inside politics. And after sitting 2nd chair for 8 years, why on EARTH would he give up the voice he's made for himself in the climate change arena to sit second chair to an imminently qualified candidate?
Give Al Gore some credit for making his own marriage after being a groomsman for 8 years and the jilted groom in 2000. He's perfect where he is. A dignified, qualified voice outside of the political arena.”

Hillary's Campaign Was Her Iraq War
Commented Jun 04, 2008 at 16:52:20 in Politics
“This thought occurred to me last night as I watched her in the bunker, where evidently blackberries, cell phones or other communications were completely blacked out.
Flashes of George Bush telling me that "we're going to win in Iraq" came back to me as she began. By the end, I felt like I'd been transported back into that reality, once again.”

“Oh, for the love of all that's true and holy, please quit the whining. Poor little Senator Clinton, AS IF she didn't take every opportunity to label a black guy raised by a single welfare mom as an ELITIST of all things.
Cry me a river. and another.”

Urgent Message to Obama Supporters
Commented Jun 03, 2008 at 13:26:46 in Politics
“I agree and I'm an Obama supporter. Step back, breathe, and figure out that we need each other to win this race in November. The qualifying heat is about to be over. The real race is beginning.
Let's follow the lead of the candidate and take the high road. It's the right thing for everyone to do, but it's a lot easier to be in the winner's circle and be gracious. Why not do that, and extend a hand to the Clinton supporters who have been just as loyal to their candidate and are disappointed, hurt, and inflamed by media reports and campaign insiders whose name is not Clinton?”

Sexism & Politics -- Where Do We Go From Here?
Commented May 19, 2008 at 18:51:38 in Politics
“Just to clarify, the email I have received from the Obama campaign does not say he plans to declare victory on Tuesday. It says they will claim to have won the majority of pledged delegates. It's not to Obama's benefit to end this before June 3rd any more than it is Clinton's, if for no other reason than to keep the voters interested and engaged.
Let's keep this to the facts, please. And let's also talk about how Hillary Clinton comes up with numbers to say she's ahead in the popular vote. It's pure invention.
That's my issue with her. Not gender. Truthiness.”
