“Hamsher:
"The last column is the PVI, which shows how Republican- or Democratic-leaning the district is relative to the rest of the country. A negative number indicates that it is strongly Republican, a positive that it’s Democratic.
Those with the highest GOP PVI, like Bright and Minnick, are going to be looking for tons of pork to bribe their district, so keep your eye out for handouts that benefit their districts between now and the vote, because that’s what conference is going to be all about: bribing members to vote for the bill with pork.
That’s how Rahm has passed everything since NAFTA.
I’m frankly not sure how they hope to hold this thing together, because the one thing members fear more than anything is losing their seats. Rahm never worries about the progressives because they have no financial base and they’re in strong Democratic districts, so they risk a lot less voting for a bailout than those in close seats. This time around, there may be enough progressives who are willing to join with the Blue Dogs and vote against a bill with a mandate, but no public option alternative, to push it over the top (or under the minimum of needed votes, as the case may be)."

“The progressive marches on the Capitol were called off by Rahm when he called the left in and gave them a "spanking" to not organize them.
The reason why people who can actually THINK oppose this is not that it is not "instantaneous", it's that it is another bailout for big business on the backs of the American people while they tell us we won't be getting jobs here anytime soon.
The Republicans couldn't have done it to us this good, this fast. That's why all the "hope" glow is still hanging around.
I guess you still think "it can't happen here" while you're watching it happen.
Good luck to you and yours and Happy holydays”

And then to take away wimmin's rights as a final slap in the face!
No, I hate to be a grinch, but I see this as the last nail in the coffin of the corporate takeover of the United States.

Spirituality is WAY different than blind faith. Maybe someday you'll find that out. Of course, it takes WORK, so you may not want too.
2000 YEARS the churches have been milking and enslaving you with this stuff and all it gives you is a feeling of piety and sanctimoniousness. GAD!”

“I DO think this bill will be worse for the American people. All one has to do is look at the rise in insurance stocks on Wall Street. Do they know something we don't? Heh heh.
We’ve been taking Shock Doctrine right crosses, upper cuts and body blows since 911…but everyone thought “it can’t happen here”… and THAT was the meme they used to “make it happen here”.
The liberal left is going to have to get out in the streets here pretty soon.
I noticed the tea baggers didn’t get ANY flak from the “authorities” but I bet WE will. We always have.
That said, this is a VERY cynical bill and the process by which it arrived is grotesque. Congress did everything it could to twist this thing up until it is a punishment for getting sick and a handout to one of the worst industries in the world...th e extortion racket called "health insurance". They even managed to attack wimmin's right to choose what to do with her own body.
