Ten Tremendous Women Who Never Married

Commented Oct 26, 2009 at 16:32:11 in Living

“Hi Samara,

I really loved this. Even though I have been married for 23 years, I have always been of the position that a woman does not need to get married. I think, really, the best reason to get married is to have a family. If a woman doesn't want children, there is no reason to tie that knot.

Most important for a woman is to always retain her independence. And the women you've highlighted here have done that.”

New Year's Cards Are the New Christmas Cards

“Great article, Samara.

This year, I sent out 4 dozen Holiday and or Christmas cards, and 130 e-cards, some were Holiday and some were Christmas. Last year, I sent out some Christmas cards and the rest New Year cards. Considering I already sent out about 100 Thanksgiving e-cards, I am skipping the New Year's cards, but it is a great idea.

Usually, I have gone with Season's Greetings - for Jewish or non-Christian friends, and Christmas for Christian friends.

I also have friends in India who specifically requested Christmas cards.”

The "N" Word on Network Television

“Well. You've walked the fine line and walked it well. We cannot say the kike word or the jew word or the n - word, though people of those respective groups can use them if they wish. My husband's black friends all refer to themselves with the n word. But yes, using the v word or the c word in its appropriate context removes the hatred from the word.

I see it a long way off before we can use the n word or other terms that deride a person's heritage. If I use the c word or the v word in its appropriate context it still does not give anyone license to use either of those terms as derision.”
Modern Manners: Is Bcc'ing Evil?

Modern Manners: Is Bcc'ing Evil?

“Hi Samara,

The BCC arose merely because it was standard as correspondence from our pre-email days, dating way back to the 1950s and earlier when it was actually a carbon copy sent to a few, instead of the standard carbon paper inserted into the manual typewriter, and those cc recipients were sent the carbon instead of the original. I remember watching secretaries wash their hands after they finished using the messy black carbon paper.

But that question is still the same. I think usually the BCC went to the originator of a discussion, so that that person could keep up with what was going on without other people knowing.

Without other people knowing? My God.

Lawyers use BCC to send correspondence to a client, at times.”
