Christian Leaders Scapegoat Gays on Marriage

Commented Nov 26, 2009 at 01:36:42 in Politics

“I like that. My own marriage is between my husband and myself. Just because a gay couple wants to tie the knot does not in any way diminish my marriage.

How can they call themselves Christian while telling other people they are wrong for wanting relationships with whomever they want. While they may not agree with it, they really have no right to deny anyone the right to pursue their own relationships with the partner of their choosing.

I say mind your own business and work on your own marriage and let other people live their lives!”

“Agreed.

All the fear tactics used by the opposition to health care reform such as big bureaucracy, death panels, long lines, denials of coverage, etc, is exactly what we do have right now eith the health insurance companies in charge. That is what the present system does now. They want us to fear the government and anything controlled by the government.

It looks like there have been many government programs that have worked very well like Medicare, our US military, most of our public schools. There have always been a few kinks and no system is perfect but I would much rather have our government controlling our health care than any corporation. The corporation's main interest is the bottom line and to h e l l with anything else. Our country is presently being held hostage by the corporations. I wish the American people would stop watching celebrity drama and wake up to the truth!”

“Glenn Beck needs to take a cue from Norah O'Donnell and do some research before he opens his big mouth.

The girl is 17, very politically active, if indeed misinformed. She is very committed to her cause even if she doesn't understand it and she wore a politically charged t-shirt to a book signing. Now I am just going by the small snippet of the show but I think Norah O'Donnell is simply pointing to the fact that Sarah Palin's supporters and emotionally connected to her and Sarah Palin feeds on their anger at the government that THEY feel is out of control. This has nothing to do with any cause or anything intellectual.

The right accused us Progressives of being misogynists...just listen to Beck and the other meatheads on his show. That is some of the most misogynistic language I have heard and I can't understand how any women can be serious Glenn Beck fans. Disgusting!!”

“I'm guess you are a better person than I am.

I just can't get past those hideous conservative views and that abrasive personality. I can find plenty to admire about Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Olympia Snowe, Kay Bailey Hutchison and lots of women who are able to have families and political careers and if you notice from the list, they are not as liberal as I am.

I'm sorry, I cannot find anything to admire about Sarah Palin.”

A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to Talk About Afghanistan

Commented Oct 16, 2009 at 13:29:32 in Media

“I love Ed but I have to agree w/ Arianna on this.

Once the boy was found alive and well, the attention should have gone to the important issues of the day such as Health care, the economy, and Afghanistan. This is why I do not watch many newshows. such as teh Today show. I think I soured on them when they opened the show with the breakup of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston. I'm wondering if the network execs who decide what is "new" think the American people are that stupid.”

“I know Bill Maher is a comedian but this speaks more truth than comedy.

I noticed that we don't fight back like we used to. We allow corporation to control us and yes, we are in a zombie like state and we accept all the nonsense.

I saw a commerical the other day where this woman was getting bent out of shape for the government taxing soda. I mean come on. I say tax the H E L L out of it. The consumption of soda is contributing to making American A $ $ e S fat. Tax fast food as well! This stuff is making Americans stupid and unhealthy. Now, I'm not trying to sound self righteous but due to the fact that our dollars are not going as far as they used to, we stopped drinking soda and dont eat at fast food restaurants so a tax on these items is not going to affect my family very much.”

Hey I remember Bush, the rightie's hero using the same word to describe a reporter that he disliked.

“Good point.

He's right. I want to muzzle Glenn Beck as well as Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Colter etc just as much as any liberal would want to. However, I agree that the call for the drop in sponsorship of Glenn Beck just give Beck more attention and thus the higher rating.

The best thing to do is just not give Beck any attention. You know how the media loves controversy and with controversy comes ratings. That is what the sponsors look at is the ratings.”

Ted Kennedy and the Missing National Conversation

Commented Aug 27, 2009 at 14:41:50 in Home

“You are right again, Arianna. We should always remember the "least among us".

My faith teaches us to reach our to the "least among us" the way our Lord did. It was the same faith that Ted Kennedy professed and in the past two days, I can see where he put it into practice. It gives me hope to see someone who came from his wealth and power to reach out to ordinary every day people.

It is also inspiring to learn of all the things that are available to ordinary people because of legislation that Senator Kennedy worked so tirelessly to get through the Senate.

He will definitely be missed.”

Lessons in Leadership: Why Obama Needs to Brush Up on His FDR

Commented Aug 25, 2009 at 14:34:23 in Politics

“Well written, Arianna, thank you for your honest evaluation of our President. I appreciate someone who can be honest instead of someone who speaks glowingly of the commander in chief no matter how much he screws up (such as a certain cable news network...I won't mention any names)

You are right on...Obama needs to stand firm on the public option and for the 77% of the Americans who want it and quit bowing to Grassley, Baucus, Conrad and their ilk. Yes there is a strong and very vocal opposition, but there was for Social Security and Medicare that many of these misled inividuals are fighting to keep.

I listened to Chuck Schumer this weekend on MTP. Here is a man that very eloquently defended the public option. He did so with conviction and with no apologies. I wish Obama had the same backbone!”

“I remember back in college, going to study in the library, (yes, I was that nerdy) and noticing the lack of American students in the library. Most of the students were from other countries and they were studying things like engineering and physics and kicking our American butts with their grade point average.

I remember seeing the American students brandishing Greek letters and making a lot of noise at "keggers" (yes, I was there as well...after all the studying, it was good to let off steam...within reason).

I wonder if the foreigners visiting us found it amusing how OBSESSED with celebrities Americans are.
They cannont name the three branches of government but they can tell you who all the finalists are for American Idol, The can't name their senators but they can tell you the names of Angelina Jolie's children. I think it is no wonder that other countries are kicking our butts in science and technology. And they have managed to figure out a way to make health care work.

I think we need to stop reading People Magazine and turning in to E! network and really start paying attention to what is going on in Washington. Apparently the corporations that have bought our governemnt are cashing in on our ignorance and there is little being done to stop them! But that is okay as long as we all know who Jennifer Anniston is dating!”

“Maybe, I am one of those wierd people who don;t think socialized medicine is not such a bad thing after all. I think I would prefer to know that if I get sick, I can go to a doctor and recieve treatment without having to fill out a bunch of forms and provide my insurance info. I am one of those rare breeds that thinks health care should be a right and not a privilege. Everytime, I have had to go to the doctor for myself, or for my family, I am always asked at the outset if I have insurance and it so turns me off. That, right there shows who and what is in control and that my family's health is not their main concern!

Health insurance is a racket and it works in the best interest of the bottom line and the shareholders, not the people that pay the premiums.

Thank you, Bill for speaking the truth. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Not everything in American needs to make a profit.”

If for nothing else than the entertainment value. I would love to see her try match wits w/ Obama in a debate. She failed miserably against Biden. You cannot win a debate where you wink and say that you are not going to answer questions presented by the moderator, or give "shouts out" to Joe the Plumber or whoever...that was such a joke!

You prove yourself as a leader by answering the tough questions and being professional. She has made herself a wealth of material for stand up comedians and late night talk show hosts for years to come...Run Sarah Run...We could use a few laughs!”

How Much More Pathetic Can the Washington Post Get? Sarah Palin

Commented Jul 14, 2009 at 12:48:36 in Media

“Great article and I agree with it. However, as a resident of Oklahoma, I cannot let this one go.

Jim Inhofe is such an embarrassment to me and he does NOT represent my views and I have consistently voted against him or rather in favor of his opponent in each election.

It is true that he is supported by the oil industry and there is no doubt they put up huge amounts of money to have this i d i o t w i n d b a g re-elected every time he runs. He is also supported by the legions of the religious right, who somehow are led to believe he is pro life and supports their family values from the many evangelical churches we have in this state.

Once again, Mr. Inhofe does not represent me or my views and I will continue to try to oust this j o k e r from office.”
