“Absolutely! After all of the attention given to the Congressional race in New York, I was stunned to find the so called left wing media was barely mentioning the outcome this morning. The focused instead on Virginia and New Jersey. The race that actually counts, in terms of participation in the administration's initiatives, was secured by the Democratic candidate. We are all being Fox'd by a media so eager to stir controversy that it has lost site of the facts.”

Where was all of the righteous indignation when, during the Clinton impeachment attempt, when Newt Gingrich and Bob Barr (among others) were outted by Larry Flynt. I have not heard apologies from or investigations of those two.
In the Letterman case, nobody has lodged a complaint - Except the cuckolded boyfriend. It blew up in his face -- It's time to move on. (His show last night was the best in a decade.)”

All the President's Values

“Almost all of the posts here are one version or another of "all about me." And each of those has a myopic view of how their personally selected initiatives should have been fully accomplished in the whopping 9 months since President Obama was sworn in... All the while claiming to support an administration they are already writing the post mortems for. Everyone expects their own big baby to be produced, while our President hacks away at the shortfalls and abject failings of the last administration - And unsupported suffers the slings and arrows of the right who remained fully mobilized after taking down the last Democrat over marital transgressions, sniffing that Clinton's strikes agains Osama bin Laden were "wag the dog." (Conveniently forgotten by Sept 12, 2001.)
And here we all sit on this website engaging in intellectual self gratification while automatic rifle toting, business attired, thoroughly propagandized Foxites spread the gospel according to Smith and Wesson at Presidential appearances. We have become the silent majority. With civility apparently quashed in this country, is anybody out there with the guts to plan a counter offensive to back the President?”

“I agree that sitting on a website without being willing to actively engage is a serious problem for those who fancy themselves as progressive. BUT...if progressives are looking for signals from this president that he too finds guns outside his door not only objectionable, but intolerable, they haven't seen them. It's very disturbing to me that he won't even fight to preserve his own life! Enough IS Enough. He had every right to order the secret service to clear an area 5 miles in every direction, but whatever his reason, it certainly gave the impression that this president will avoid taking a stand even for the sake of his own life. It's true our President shouldn't have to deal with that kind of 'debris' but accommodating that kind of encroachment on civility is leaving the door wide open.
Roosevelt wanted the people to "make me do it". All of us should get off our collective a$$es and get active...b ut eventually the President has to stand in front of the movement.”

“Absolutely! Problem is, where do we jump on this moving train. Since the right cherry picked from those who are easily led... and who get their politics from the pulpit; how do we get into this fight? I write emails, donate money, blog, talk it up (to the extent that I can safely do so in my red state); but I feel like a lone voice. On the right, FOX trumpets the cause of the teabagger; but all the other news outlets, in trying to prove themselves truly unbiased, will not talk anything up. The Republicans stick together like geese - The Democrats on the Sen Finance Committee should be drawn and quartered for breaking ranks in something so serious.”

If Republicans will stop acting like the schoolyard bully who just got socked in the nose; and if Fox starts reporting facts and dispenses with giving urban legends and downright fiction headline status, then the one source news watchers might see what is apparent to the rest of us. The Politicization of 9/11
Commented Sep 10, 2009 at 23:17:19 in Politics
“You have to give credit to the Republicans in one respect - They are modern day alchemists. They have so successfully torqued the political dialogue that the heavily taxed middle class are morphed into mobs defending the rich against a 1% tax rollback; and the elderly shout down an improved healthcare system. Bush, Cheney and most notably Rudy Gulliani hardlly spoke a sentence without factoring in 9-11, WTC or Pentagon in somehow. The pundits who endorsed all of this now find fault with the thoughtful idea of a day of service and remembrance, calling it leftist and statist?. How is it different in concept from HW's "thousand points of light" community service initiative.”

If everyone would put their crystal balls away and do something to back up their November votes, healthcare would sail through.
As for Stephanopoulos, he showed what he was made of when he bailed on Clinton when the waters got choppy. He's the leader of the "It's All About Me" crowd.”

“Does the smile mean you're kidding? There is no provision in the healtcare bill for government taking over. In fact, there are specific tax incentives to companies to keep what they have in place for their employees. Look back at some of the changes that the insurance companies made since the Clinton health initiative - They threw a bone, but it was a pared down version of what was described in the bill that everyone was so afraid of. But we are at the end of the perspective now - Without competition, the insurers are offering less an charging more.”
The Republican "Do Not Resuscitate" Plan to Let Medicare Die
Commented Aug 22, 2009 at 00:02:15 in Politics
“Obama has flatly stated that he will not sign a bill that raises taxes for the middle class - certainly not on the very health benefits in the plan. He has reiterated that the 1% of income earners who captured 66% of the income growth in the last 8 years would see their tax bracket upped 1% to what they were paying pre-George. The taxation on the full value health plans was the cornerstone of McCain's health care initiative. Funny there was no public outcry from his supporters - Those same placard carrying folks now in attendance at Town Hall meetings.”
mikefina replied on Aug 22, 2009 at 10:23:29
“Let's leave the "Obama flatly stated"... nonsense out of the debated--we have NO IDEA what he would actually sign. In March Democrat Ron Wyden (Oregon) and Peter Orzag (Budget Director) both said the idea was on the table. White House demurred--but clearly the idea is NOT out of the question even if it is presently out in the ether.
I was/am not a McCain supporter or a Town Hall protester, but that is irrelevant, because it isn't strictly a McCain issue--it is an economic one.
The rest of your post is white noise.”

“I agree in principle - as did George Carlin in one of his more famous rants about the True Owners of the Country (or the world). Given how entrenched and funded is the scenario Mr. Flynt describes, I believe that the President cannot fight on all fronts all at once as Bill Clinton tried to do.(BTW - I still smile when I think about Mr. Flynt's bounty on philanderers in Congress.. . Excellent! And it worked.) As a candidate Obama said he couldn't do everything at once and also said he would need help. What I see are huge impediments from the 'royalists' and even larger blockades from those who supported hs election and purport to stand behind this administration. I'm not naieve - But this rush to judgement is counter productive and fuels the rockets being launched (and funded by their corporate buddies) by the right wing Torys. If they do bring about a "Waterloo" on the health bill, and get the single issue voters moving right again- Then the state of the world will revert and entrench at the level we have seen it for the last 8 years. Think all the way through an issue to its conclusion- Don't stop when you get to the provocative part that you like.”

Why Can't the Boomers Just Shut Up About Woodstock?

“The Boomer generation's young men were conscripted to fight an illegal war and in turn fought so that their children could choose if they wanted to serve. USE it to do something besides find the next round of Ecstasy. We have gone from 'We Shall Overcome' to 'We are the World' to 'We are the Waiting'. Taking over is something Gen-X is going to have to do by getting off the couch - without using paunchy old caught-in-the past Daddy's credit card. I admit one failure - the education system. Your generation has been left without the ability to think through a plan, just stopping when you get to a part that you like... And then the collective whine. Boomers were encouraged to stand behind what we believed was right. Difference was one had to support one's argument - Not just holler. Even with the internet, young people are governed by the soundbite. They migrate from one logical fallacy to another. Everyone piles on to embrace a cause that lasts an average of 72 hours. Facts and follow-up have gone the way of the newspapers and "think pieces." You’re not learning from the past... either good or bad; but you are savoring rancor and making no attempt at improvement. And that defines pitiful.”

“Well if you want to develop both sides of your brain - Read the first two posts below... Yin and Yang, Pete ane Repeat, Right and Left. They are typical of what has happened to America in the last 40 years. The polarization that started during the Vietnam war has never really gone away. Problem is that it has been exploited by the professional preachers; and those who capitalize on controversy; and good ole American horse trading. All have all swooped down to claim their prey. Woodstock, like today, was not the best of times and it was not the worst of times. It was just proof that people could come together, even if stoned, for a weekend of music. What we might try to rekindle in America is a coming togther - if only for a weekend to actually talk - face to face and find some common ground. Even detente would be an improvement. Somewhere between then and now a chasm has grown that will be our undoing if we don't learn - and learn quickly - how to reach across it.”
