I'm not saying Dr. Weil has all the answers, or even the right answers. I AM saying the FDA is in the pocket of the Big Pharma.”

“I am currently taking 400IU with my calcium tablet and 400IU in my for-women-over-50 multivitamin. I recently added 2000IU of D3. Can any of the doctors posting here tell me if that is safe? I do not know which vitamin D is in either the Calcium or my multi-vitamin. What is a safe dosage range?”

Conk replied on Oct 21, 2009 at 09:01:48

“You cannot get too much D3. 10,000 to 20,000 units a day is fine. You body will make more than that in just 15 minutes in the sun. And you should take magnesium with the calcium to aid in absorbtion.

I'm not a doctor, but I play one in my kitchen. I've kept my family healthy and disease free for 15 years. No colds, no flus. No nuttin. Eat right and avoid toxins. It's that simple. And keep your emotions in check. Fearful thinking, doubting, and negativity affect the way the brain operates, and the kinds of chemicals and hormones that move about. Longterm this can bring on disease. Reference: Evolve Your Brain, by Dr. Joe Dizpensa.”

“Interesting idea. How would that play out in court (where I assume it must go to have any force to pressure legislative response)? How would you mount such a case? And how would you argue it?”

hp blogger Paula B. Mays replied on Oct 13, 2009 at 18:38:23

“Excellent questions Kay. I maintain that the people in the CIGNA case for example would file suit under the Equal Protection clause saying the denial of insurance for their daughter´s liver transplant violated the Constitution. Since they had an ERISA plan they would argue that ERISA application to allow insurers to determine what health care needs they will cover based on nothing, violates the Equal Protection Clause.”

“The President has stated all of those goals in interview after interview.”

Observer963 replied on Sep 01, 2009 at 19:57:57

“Yes. That is correct. Despite what you said in your post that the President has not set clear goals, he has exactly outlined the frame work that he wants to see the bill passed within. Those points are his. And yes, he wants our elected representatives to get involved, do their homework, work out the details and take ownership of it. The very example of a democratic process. President Obama does not want to take the role of the 'decider'!! We had 8 years of that already. So thank but not thanks.”

“Like a little cheese to go with that whine?

Some big things you obviously don't know:
1) The "baby boomers" who are running things now did not go to Woodstock.
2) The Vietnam war protests actually DID help change American minds about the war.
3) The hundreds of thousands of people who were in the streets protesting Vietnam were the VERY SAME people out protesting the Iraq invasion. I was there. Where the hell were YOU?
4) If more of YOU had shown up for the Iraq invasion protests we might have changed things.
5) We might not have changed things with respect to Iraq. Cheney, the Vietnam draft dodger turned right wing war hawk, was committed to going to war for Exxon and Blackwater.
6) Woodstock wasn't about "them." It was about young people coming together and having fun. Remember fun?
7) You have your very own president now so.....QUIT WHINING! If you are unhappy GET OFF YOUR ASS and do something!”

More recent generations cannot appreciate these struggles because they, thankfully, have never experienced true discrimination or enforced social conformity. We Baby Boom parents made sure of that, and this is the thanks we get?”

The thing about you "boomers" is you are so myopic and hypnotised by your own supposed awesomeness that you can't even see that there might be a point to criticism of your "generational values" by the rest of us that have to clean up after the wreck you've made of our planet and culture.

We see what you did and we're not happy having it dumped on us, YOU quit whining about how special you all are and how much we "owe you" and maybe we can get somewhere.”

“You're right. People ARE dying to have the Fed take charge. They are dying every day while the insurance companies deny benefits. They are dying every day because they cannot afford even basic health insurance. Over one hundred thousand people die in America every year from lack of access to adequate medical care.

Oh, and 10,000 checks at $250 is $2.5 million, less than the insurance industry spends in 2 days to kill real reform that would actually help even you.

So here's MY new rule: Get the facts or shut up.”

Top 10 Reasons Sarah Palin's "Outrage" is Misplaced and A Little Late...

“Let me think....Will Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Groucho Marx, Honore Daumier, Carol Burnette, Pablo Picasso, Don Rickles, and yes, Johnny Carson too. In fact, all the greatest comedians, artists, and writers of all time have collectively disparaged and generally made fun of public figures, and politicians in particular. Will Rogers made his living making fun of politicians.

We as audiences didn't stoop to ridicule. Politicians did and still do ridiculous things. Ridiculous as in deserving of ridicule.

Children should be off limits. Letterman was wrong. But Palin is no innocent in this imbroglio. She cannot have it both ways. Either protect your pregnant daughter by staying the hell out of the limelight as most mothers would have done, or get ready for the onslaught. Hypocrite is the least of the words I reserve for a mother who drags her vulnerable child into the spotlight and then gets mad because the inevitable happens.”

jules23 replied on Jun 17, 2009 at 15:28:19

If Palin wants to keep her family out of the spotlight, she should stop pushing them on stage. If you go on national television preaching abstinence, while being an unwed teen mother, you can't be outraged when you become a target of mockery.”

“No one is proposing that private insurers close up shop. A public option is just that, an option. If private insurers can operate without robbing us blind and then denying us coverage when we go blind, they will do just fine. Problem is, they don't. That's why a public option is absolutely essential. Otherwise, the same old foxes will keep raiding the hen house they guard.”

pragmaticdallasite replied on Jun 16, 2009 at 17:03:12

Scientists are beginning to explore that old Star Trek theme of alternate realities all proceeding side by side in alternate dimensions, with strands of reality constantly splitting off from one another, creating new universes each time someone makes a different choice. Kind of a cool idea. Somewhere, I'm rich and thin.”

BetteB replied on May 04, 2009 at 20:43:34
