Invisible Man Banned: Ralph Ellison's Landmark Novel Banned From School Libraries

“The Invisible Man may be the most intellectually briliant novel I've read. That said, I suspect it is not a book for high school, although banning it is ridiculous.”

“A more reasonable way to raise wages is to make it easier to start and run a business. There should be no business taxes, no mounds of paperwork to fill out to different state agencies, no double fica tax to pay. All you have to do is rent a space and throw out your sign and you can sell your stuff.
Since we are giving money away in droves to folks who won't work, for whatever reason, they can at least pay a national consumer tax. There can be a much smaller rate flat tax on us workers, but at least there is some incentive to actually do something to earn money.
I'll be we'd see business sprouting up all over the place. And they'd hire.”

“Have you heard of the concept of The Viewpoint Universe?
You know, of course, of the old experiment where a professor in front of a class of students has an opera performed. Someone crosses a stage, shoots someone, someone dashes forward, someone else screams, etc. Each student then details a report on what happened, which are found to be wanting by the videotape secretly recorded.
But that tape is not the real truth, the real reality. The real truth is what everyone there perceived, what the sun in the sky outside the classroom looked like, what everyone felt across the earth. There is no end of truth to reality. So one has no end of information. Just accept it and one begins to better realize the nature of the Great Consciousness overlaid in this place.
Or, don't., It makes no difference. Honestly, have fun, screw your neighbor's wife, and all will be well.”

“God can be thought of as consciousness that is immediately aware of everything in the perceptible universe, including every atom, every thought, every concept. We can be thought of as infinitesimal fractions of that consciousness, able to conceive of anything but with limited focus.
Since everything is God, nothing is right or wrong, it is existence. The wider one's relative perception of existence, the more perspective one has of the whole business, and the freer one is to move around and experience. My take, anyway.”
