“So what is your point? That young black men who do not want to participate in society - go to the doctor, get a job, cash a check, go to a bar with an ID are disadvantaged but want to vote? or that you resent there may be a national ID as a citizen?”

“The story was about young minorities and that is why I mentioned that point.”

Autora on Aug 27, 2013 at 21:06:05

“My point in your case is that you just made my point for me. When you think of a requirement for a photo ID in order to vote, you automatically think of a young black man who 'does not want to participate in society.'

You are not thinking at all of other citizens who may be unncesssarily put out to meet some ridiculous regulation that only the GOP are jumping up and down about, and they have no grounds for doing so. There is NO evidence of widespread voter fraud. NONE. Not even they can come up with proof, and yet they claim that is the basis for all this nonsense. And you use young black men as an example-- that's about as telling as it gets.

In case you hadn't noticed, a photo ID such as a driver license is not proof of citizenship, which makes it even more stupid.

And yes, I think a national ID is a bad idea: have you never heard of passports? I thought the GOP was always claiming they're trying to make government less redundant. What could be more redundant than to make people get a national ID when they already have social security cards, birth certificates and passports if they travel?”

“Gosh I can think of about a million things that were not required before but are now -....starting with healthcare, seat belts, helmets on bicycles, insurance, tax on everything....want to go one. That is a lame argument about just because you did not have to have it before?

The elderly person does need a doctor or a hospital (ID required), rides mass transit maybe and needs ID to get discounted fare, how do they cash or deposit a check. Free in PA for ID if you can't afford the $12”

Autora on Aug 27, 2013 at 20:31:40

“So can I think of them and it isn't the point. The point is that there is no REASON to require photo ID, and that it will put some members of our citizenry to unnecessary difficulty to obtain one.

In case you didn't know, you can get bank accounts and so on with a social security card and birth certificate, and both forms of ID are valid for many other things as well. No photo ID required.

Are you completely unaware of the law? There is no law in the United States that requires ANYONE to have a photo ID as merely a citizen.”

“High Education is a business just like any other. Their sole purpose of their business is to get you in school and keep you there as long as they can. Just look at the greats (Steve Jobst) who never finished college because they were smart enough to figure that out. Bloated salaries by tenured profs, administration, and especially sport coaches all need to keep the "6-years" for a four-year education.

The new college graduates think they should be landing 6-figure jobs when they get out. They do not want to start at the bottom and work their way up, the same way their grandparents did.”

Stop them from coming in. Open the gates to more coming in legally so they can have a good life. Figure out what to do with families who have worked and are willing to become citizens, learn English and pay taxes.”

CEO Pay Now Exceeds Pre-Recession Levels: Equilar

Makes $9 million for being a CEO for 365 days a year seem paltry. Ha and my salary - wow miniscule!”
