Local Republican Caucus Passes Resolution Allowing Wisconsin To Secede

Local Republican Caucus Passes Resolution Allowing Wisconsin To Secede

Commented Apr 7, 2014 at 13:40:53 in Politics

“I'm hardly surprised that it would be this particular district who'd drag the rest of the state through the mud over a futile and imbecilic gesture such as this. It was tarnished enough when more than half the state was seduced by the Koch funded ads and voted for someone who offered nothing to justify his election other than empty promises and even flat out lies. This is simply embarrassing, even though the group is, according to the article, only twenty five individuals and being disavowed by their party as quickly as the words might be uttered. I may no longer live in the state, being a year removed further east, but it's unsettling that nonsense like this would emerge from where I grew up.”

“What Monsanto has is an encouraged and even enforced monopoly on not just a seed crop, but the very livelihoods of an entire segment of the American population; farmers; locking them in a sort of indentured servitude for most of the rest of their lives by means of contracts, loans, and control of commodities. The issue with them goes well beyond questions of ethics with GMOs, but into the very heart of what our government chooses to enforce or enable within its own legal codes. Once was a time when overbearing and bullying mega conglomerates like this fell under the scrutiny of anti trust laws and men like Roosevelt willing to use them, and the people were the better for it. Now, such men find it hard to get their foot in the door as super PACs and lobbyists ensure only their own can afford the office, and the people get distracted by talking heads and perceive greater injustice in menial annoyances, botched game releases justifying the tag "most evil company" more then lives destroyed. Something is rotten in the state of America.”

“A gross exaggeration and utter misreading of my whimsical rhymes. First, the implied fire was not caused nor implied to be caused because of budget cuts; such notions would attribute ridiculous nigh God like powers to what is essentially an academic discipline IE economics. Nor does it imply the complete lack of a fire department at all. What is implied is that by depriving that institution of adequate means to do their job, many homes were lost and lives ruined that could have been spared. Such have been the complaints from fire departments coming down the wire in certain towns victimized by the Waldo Canyon fires”

“If you're going to counter-satirize you should at least make an effort to rhyme, let alone use correct grammar. Still I do appreciate the point, destroying the fabric of a town's economy is a bipartisan blunder. The sort described in the above article, however, tends to trend most distinctly towards tea party conservatism, and many of the communities that play into such tactics have for the past few years been finding themselves victims of calamities the programs and facilities they cut were meant to protect against. They then find themselves in a rather ironic game of still attacking such programs and the federal money going into them, while at the same time asking for help with what ails them. Then add on the layer that many of the environmentally related disasters are collectively pointing toward the climate altering conditions they adamantly refuse to acknowledge and the matter becomes a full blown Shakespearean comedy in three acts.”

“Let me tell you the story of a little mountain town who believed they could set an example and remove the nation's frown. They thought to prove that their way was right, that their good conservative principles would restore the nation's might. So they cut the budget, the jobs and more; they cut the firemen, the police, they cut libraries and workers and shut many doors. Then summer came, and with it the heat. An angry hot sun on brows it would beat. But never they mind the dry windy sorrows, most of them had AC in their condos. Little they thought of what heat does to wood, especially when rain starved and bug ridden they stood. Too late did they think "perhaps there'll be fire", not 'till the smoke spoke of something quite dire. Over the peaks there came a menacing blaze, with the acrid black smoke to darken their days. They looked all around for someone to save them, but firemen were now few, for "the sake of the nation."”

“Allow me to summarize the argument we seem to have from both sides; big business is evil, take back our state from their dog walker on one side, unions are evil, side with walker so he can save us from them on the other. If both are to be believed then both sides are backed by the devil and we're all going to hell no matter what. Personally I'm not buying the notion that the apocalypse is nigh and I should get the feed ready for the four horsemen's mounts, but if we're going to play the game of demonizing, why not do it with the individuals in question rather then trying to settle this back and forth tug of war over who has the more villainous money bin for Scrooge to dive into. Who should we, or can we, trust more?”

On the other, the behavior of Dharun during the trial rubbed me in a bad way, and I worry that bigotry will only solidify from this. What bothers me more though is the reaction of the prosecution and the judge; it seems that hate crimes against LBGT targets is still not regarded as such, and that is worrying. There seems to exist very little empathy for what individuals in that community go through.”

Then there's the fact that a lot of the money he siphoned from the parks he then gave to privately owned golf courses owned by friends and campaign contributors, then there was the fact he overruled the aqueduct system barrett wanted to put in place that could have prevented those massive floods a few years ago, then the long overdue work on the zoo interchange he voted to delay then tried to blame on barrett even though barrett doesn't have a vote on county matters like that. Oh, then there's the 27% unemployement increase he keeps toting, 26% of which is also his fault and that he neglects to mention it was dropping like mad on his watch before barrett even took office.”

'Reporter's Privilege' Under Fire From Obama Administration Amid Broader War On Leaks

Commented May 18, 2012 at 20:42:00 in Media

“It should be pointed out for the benefit of all conservative attack dogs barring their teeth here with pointing fingers and accusations that much of the logic to such attacks relies on the assumption that a "conservative" would not presume to do the same thing. History is against this logic, as even as recent as the last "conservative" president we find examples of similar such acts. This does not make this particular action right, but rather then wasting time paying homage to the Simpsons with Nelson laughs, how about we focus on actual legitimate arguments about why it isn't right, and real action against it as just voting Republican is not really an option.”

Wisconsin Recall Election 2012: Latest Updates

Commented May 15, 2012 at 13:07:43 in Politics

“The unemployment rate is falling nationally, it's not particularly smart to judge purely based on that statistic. The facts being toted by either side are based on how much work Walker has been directly responsible for bringing to the state or chasing away, unemployment on the other hand can show growth influenced more by national and private interests; IE is Sears feeling good enough about the national market to tell its stores to start hiring again. A Governor won't and cannot claim responsibility for this. What they can claim credit for is if a group like Oskosh trucks decides they will build the new plant they've decided on here or in Georgia. This is what is meant when Walker says he's 'created x number of jobs' or Barrett points out he's 'lost y amount'; in this case Walker is in fact in the negatives. Now this will have an affect on the unemployment percentages; if the national trend is falling percentages then the rate for the state in question will be either faster or slower depending on the nature of the numbers stated earlier. What you need to look at is if Wisconsin's unemployment is in fact falling slower or faster then the national average. I don't have the figures on hand, but I believe the trend is the former; in fact if I recall correct it is right now slower for the state overall then the city of Milwaukee alone.”

There's a lot of 'impressed' homosexual pairings in the stories that some of the fan base like to put on the characters; frodo and sam, pippin and merry, even gimli and legolas. Most of them aren't really legitimate, closest one to being so probably is frodo and sam, but it's harmless fan shipping. I've also read many of what you listed in the other post, Kafka in particular is interesting in his almost surrealistic premises.”

“That title is better fitted to the works of CS Lewis then to Tolkien, a fact that in spite of being friends Tolkien would berate the former constantly over. Tolkien does not draw influence solely from Christian influences, in fact most of the influences are pagan in origin; drawing from norse mythology and classic epics such as Beowulf. The ring itself is based on the ring of gygis, a parable used by Socrates, although he viewed it in the opposite manner as something to be embraced and used. The central theme itself; hope in the midst of overwhelming dispair and uncertainty; is a far more pagan notion then christian, as christian teachings suggest that with God there is no uncertainty. That's something you find far more readily in Lewis, where no matter how dire the circumstance, in the end Azlan comes and fixes things, and all the unecessary struggles were simply a teaching tool. Even the elements that are influenced by Christian works aren't always the direct allegory you suggest. One such influence is the green knight of arthurian lore, which is far more a story describing nature then God.”

WoodyCPM on Apr 26, 2012 at 18:41:03

“Another reason I may not have connected with the Ring is because I'm gay. It seems like fiction that most young straight boys and young straight men were drawn to rather than gay boys and men. It's just a theory I have based on my experience. I have no hard data to back that up. No doubt there are SOME gay men who may have found it mesmerizing.”

WoodyCPM on Apr 26, 2012 at 18:38:21

“Thank you for your thoughtful and considered reply. It was very informative. I STILL can't read Tolkien. It just bores me. Perhaps if I had tried to read it when I was 12 rather than 20, it would have made all the difference. I like fantasy fiction. "Watership Down" for instance I found delightful. Fabulists like Etgar Keret, Kafka and Borges are exceptionally inventive and engaging.”
