Dealing with race from a distance, has been choosen over dealing with it at arm's length because of both liberal cowardice and conservative self-denial; as both play their own self-deceptive games when it comes to real reform and change into Mr. Russell's so-named 'purpling of American politics'. Both major political parties have much to gain personally by playing cat-n-mouse with addressing racial relations, on the surface the liberals look better on paper but neither party truly is willing to deal with a problem which is subject specific to millions within their own districts.

Neither major political party is interested in productive engagement on the subject of race, and while we throw our hat in the progressive ring, the lack of committment on the part of the Democrats is rather glaring and obvious.”
