Adam Lambert, My Hero

Adam Lambert, My Hero

Commented Nov 27, 2009 at 10:30:15 in Entertainment

“a performer usually mistakenly attempts to bolster rather than destroy their career after their talent has waned not before. Mr. Lambert was blessed with every opportunity to take both his voice, and entertaining ability to great heights during a time in society when openly gay performers are fully embraced. a walk down show-biz history lane is littered with the carcasses of performers
who listened to bad advice, got big heads, bad drugs and a case of the doubts and committed
career suicide. Instead of become a rising star, Adam is going to become the newest has-been,
relegated to small stages, the butt of comedy routines, and an addition to the "what-ever-happened-to" lists. that sure was a fast 15 minutes.”

JenniferEccles replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 16:08:00

“Konnie, good post. And that is what went through my mind, the 15 minutes part I mean. People in here are screaming homophobia and other useless complaints when the fact is Lambert is new to the scene in terms of stardom and so far I have not seen sure footing on his part. Show biz is a mine field and he alone is not qualified to know what to do.

For the show part, he should focus and be an artist. For the biz part, there are qualified people who can help with that.

This reminds me in a way of Constantine Maroulis's first year after idol. He made so many mistakes: touring with his band instead of solo, not getting a record out when he was red hot, etc. I thought then that he was either getting bad advice or no advice.

I feel the same way with this kid.....to me, he's a kid......and I hope someone good guides him in the future.

The type of act that is fun on an afternoon in Provincetown is probably not going to translate well onto network TV primetime. It amazes me how many posts on here don't get that.”

RockyW replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 15:58:38

“Konnie, did you know that Billboard estimates for Adam's first week album sales are at least 225K? The winner's final figures were 80K. I don't think Adam will be going anywhere soon. He has around 250K twitter followers who hang on his every word, his official website has over 516K visitors monthly http://www.quantcast.com/adamofficial.comm), and he has dozens of other fan sites. His true fans will always support him and not abandon him due to one performance. I was at three of the idol concerts where people were there mostly for him (as evidenced by the cheers, Adam T-shirts, Adam signs, and Adam chanting at the barricades). No one seemed to care about any of the other idols, including the winner.”
How Adam Lambert Is Hurting Gay Marriage

How Adam Lambert Is Hurting Gay Marriage

Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 09:13:49 in Entertainment

“first - it's an indictment of the publicity machine around this new celebrity. Before we get to the part where this performance - that was seen more in replay than saw it live, thanks to the bru-haha over
it, may or may not set back gay marriage, let's talk about all the other stuff. This looks to me like a classic case of The George Michael Big Head - Believing
you own publicity syndrome. Obviously everyone surrounding this kid had a hand in promoting
the enveloping-pushing performance. Add a possibility of some back stage courage-booster,
and this is what everyone wanted: ATTENTION. (not good attention, but attention none the less)

And to make the gigantic leap that some how a rock and roll performance on an award show
will set back gay marriage is only comparable to madonna's rolling around the stage performance setting back the stripper cause. get a grip. anyone against gay marriage is against anything gay.
those folks don't need excuses.”

on one hand:

isn't it sad that the men and women who survived the great depression and won WWII spawned
such a bunch of scardy-cats and hand-wringers. it's probably a good thing most of them are
gone now and don't have to be embarrassed by their kids............

on the other hand:

Since When Did 40 Become Old?

Commented Nov 19, 2009 at 12:55:03 in Entertainment

“i watch the show, and part of the problem is that sally/nora and i are the same age.
they have "aged" her for the show. the grey hair, and bad makeup, and mom-jeans/less than
current clothing............come on. both sally and nora are rich and live in southern california.
what are the chances either sally in real life*/ or nora in tv land would appear in public like
that. I don't live in southern california or tv land and i wouldn't be caught dead with that
droopy grey hair style or those clothes.

* notice that sally appears more youthful/ confident/better dressed and coiffed in her
tv commercials than she does on the series.

so the question during the program isn't one of age - but rather attractiveness/current-ness
- and that doesn't have anything to do with skinny jeans. but it stills begs the question,
why would that man be attracted to nora? we know women can
dress the man up, but does a man ever say - "hey babe - color your hair"?”

Jon Stewart's Oddly Uneducated Views on Climate Change

Commented Nov 05, 2009 at 15:16:37 in Green

“wait a minute. jon was merely parrotting all the arguments the rest of the planet is saying.
he's not any more un-educatred than the rest of us climate non-professionals.

if you listened to what he was saying you would understand: we need to be convinced that
somewhere along the line the "universal" solution is going to rise to the forefront OR NOT.

look at it another way: in between records and cassette tapes there was 8 track.
a lot of people invested in 8 tracks.............then cassettes made everything obsolete,
and a lot of people wasted a lot of money, and today still can't listen to their old music.
get my drift here?

no one wants to jump on a bandwagon that may be obsolete before the trip is paid for.
we all grasp the concept of technology improvements of one kind of technology. just not
the invention of a total different and better technology that would wipe out the investment
we already made. we as in federal, state, local governments with tax payer dollars and
personal investments. like i just installed a geo thermal hvac system. a huge investment
for me.........it will take years for me to pay off my home equity loan for this one purchase.
i am scared to death that someone will re-invent the wheel and make my house worthless
before its paid off.”

progressive candidates to run against the dirty dogs - in BOTH parties who are doin us wrong today. we need to figure out strategies for end runs around the status quo. we need to plan
to crack open the beltway and let some fresh air inside that hot house of insiders. the teabaggers

Health Care Reform

Commented Oct 25, 2009 at 12:19:21 in Politics

“i wouldn't bet on it. it took the federales to bring the civil rights laws to the south.
it took the federales to bring equal education, it took the federales to bring
standardization of highway construction to the country..........do you see a
pattern here? somethings are just too big, too important to be left to
provencial - local legislatures to wrap their head around. some of these
issues are just to detailed for part time legislators without wonkish staffs
or the personal time needed to complete these much needed shifts
in public action. sometimes you actually need to be ahead of the curve
of the districts served.

citizens shouldn't have to pack up and move to a different state for
health care they can afford. and in most states, there are no options
for voting out one bad apple for another bad orange...........there are
few shining knights who step up for the grueling - low paying, time
consuming expensive postion of state legislator, and play
don quioxte against the intrenched old-white boy senority system in place. most
give up and go back to their real lives.”

hershala replied on Oct 26, 2009 at 01:02:45

“Well the federales haven't completely done their job in the South. The south has the lowest level of education, lowest standard of living, highest level of underage unmarried pregnancy, highest crime rate, highest rate of divorce, highest rate of domestic violence ( though some of that may be the weather) highest rate of murder, highest rate of abortion, other than Utah the highest user of pornography. In many ways quite a bit of the south is still a second world country. My friends who are black tell me that the south is still not equal in it's treatment of black citizens. The rest of the nation sees what they elect, people who side against rape victims, people who vote against the citizens of their own states. There might not be people there who would be honest upright public servants but they keep a low profile and the people seemingly vote as told by their churches. They shouldn't have to leave home to be equal citizens to the rest of the countryhowever if they keep electing people who truncate their rights other people that is their choice.”
