“no that isn't what it means.
it means corporations have figured out how to squeeze more for less out of beggars.
it means business' can have the best of both worlds: willing workers, who demand nothing.
hard working over qualified workers who will trade unemployment for minimum wage and
no benefits, just to save their sanity and what little self esteme they have left.
it means corporations have become the masters.
it means the workers have become peasants.. ..all hope of maintaining the illusion of a middle class lifestyle gone....se ttling for scaps.
unions are dead
workers rights are vanishing
mark my words, soon even the child labor laws will be over turned.... .......... ...
America - the new fourth world..... .....pover ty in the shadow of former glory w/ crumbling infrastructure.”

“Child labor already overturned through global trade. No monitoring of workers overseas, ages. And they do it all the time. No school, just skills in production for chaper wages so the company can sell at high cost right back to US.
This is the ultimate bs to the American worker facing third world wages.”

“totally didn't nail it. Did you get that nonsense from your last Union rally?”
BrianMac replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 13:11:57
“Actually, companies haven't "figured out" anything. Ever since the concept of temp work was born, companies have known that they are able to get some cheap labor out of people by following the methods you've listed. But the smart ones also realize that they cannot continue doing that to employees and expect the employees to give a hoot about the organization's future. Any smart company knows that you have to get employees to invested emotionally and psychologically in order to get the most out of them and fear of being dumped at any moment is the worst method of achieving that. Otherwise, the temps will ask their agencies to reassign them to a different client. Instability creates a lot of headaches for a company, especially financial, and that's why the smart companies will do what they can to attract and retain valuable employees.
I was lucky enough after being permanently "laid off" from my job of eight years in April to pick up a temp-to-perm position in August. The ironic thing is that the temp position paid far better than the prior position and the perm status even more. Plus, I'm working in a much saner environment with really great people. Tomorrow I'll be going permanent and am very excited about it and feel very blessed.”
