Liberal Elitism? No. Some People Are, Sadly, Stupid

Commented Nov 13, 2009 at 18:10:57 in Politics

A New Wrinkle in the JFK Assassination Story

Commented Oct 30, 2009 at 12:24:31 in Books

“Then it would have simply been a different patsy. The fact that Oswald was the patsy is the least critical factor in this. How he came to be where he was is completely irrelevant if there were a number of prospects to be blamed depending on what happened... And there might simultaneously have been.

The one damage the JFK affair did to the English language in America is that the term “conspiracy” was deliberately maligned to mean a "crazy notion", when in everywhere else it still means "involvement of more than one individual in the commitment of a crime.” There might have been reasons to undermine anyone questioning anything then, are there now?”

laocoon replied on Oct 30, 2009 at 18:04:40

“we now have the pristine government theory- which asserts more or less that since this is a great country there cannot be and never have been any coups that transfer power. the government is by definition pristine. that thinking does one thing-- makes us all the more vulnerable to coups.”

greeneyes13 replied on Oct 30, 2009 at 14:03:02

“Thank you. I believe there was a conspiracy to kill JFK, but I am not crazy or delusional and am tired of being accused as such. :)

There are those in the other camp (so to speak) who like to belittle those of us who believe there was a conspiracy. It's rather tiresome. Sure, some of the theories are a little wacky, and some are so out in left field they're laughable. But if you look hard enough you can separate the wheat from the chaff.”

“The one reason it doesn't work for most people is because they think they have to eat ridiculous meals like salads..You have to find a cuisine that you love that caters to vegetarians.Salad is only the salad course of vegetarian meal.

Then either visit a vegetarian country or talk to people from a vegetarian culture..Find out why they think meat is bland and disgusting.”

PaganVeganMilitant replied on Oct 27, 2009 at 12:31:34

“SO true. I have eaten so many different types of vegan meals and the variety is there. I feel I have more variety and flexibility when meat is not a corner stone of the meal. When it is central everything else is too little. Take it out and you will see a ton of different ways to prepare a meal besides meat, potatoes and small amount of veggies.”

“My comment was targeted at Kartell who got cancelled on at 8:00 PM for an 8:30 PM first date..

If you happened to detect H1N1 at 8:00 PM and cancelled, my advice to the recipient of your cancellation remains the same. Because there are plenty of available people who do not contract H1N1 at 8:00 PM ever in their lives while a small percentage continue to detect something or the other at 8:00 PM.”

“The rule in this case is very clear: if someone cancels on you, you forget about them period. End of story.

You know why, because they WILL do it again. If you feel the way you do now, imagine what would a repeat performance be like, especially if consecutive.”

rivergirl301 replied on Oct 22, 2009 at 22:30:24

The Hypocrisy of David Letterman

Commented Oct 06, 2009 at 13:51:06 in Media

“I don't think that the author understands the term hypocrisy. Letterman just did what he did, he was never against any of it..

And until a woman complains or Letterman's employer makes this an issue, there is no issue other than extortion.”

IowaGirl replied on Oct 06, 2009 at 14:48:52

“I thought she was going to comment on the hypocrisy of his telling Clinton-Lewinsky jokes for the last decade. Does that use of "hypocrisy" work for you???!! Both of the women involved with these high-powered men were young, in their employ, and probably put the men on a pedestal. Only a very naive person would think that this doesn't happen every day, esp. in the professions where narcissism flourishes, like politics, entertainment, and higher education. (Oops, forgot medicine. And the arts. And, um, wherever highly educated and talented as*ho*es congregate.)

But most adulterers don't have a show that allows them to make fun of other dilly-dalliers--year after year, night after night. Letterman has probably intoned the name "Monica Lewinksy" as much as anyone else in that woman's life. I thought he did it in a lame attempt at humor, but it turns out he was just excited at the thought.”

Fake News Is the Real News

Commented Oct 01, 2009 at 13:46:55 in Media

“I haven't been to another country like ours that doesn't have a real TV news. Has anyone of the posters seen this phenomenon elsewhere?”

jeannie35 replied on Oct 01, 2009 at 16:53:44

“The only country that comes to mind is Italy with Berlusconi controlled media. I haven't been to Italy, so I can't claim validity in my suspicions. There is a new documentary about the media in Italy that I would very much like to see. I believe it's called Videocracy. It claims to expose the rise of faux reality-based programs and the stupification of their citizens as the result. Berlusconi has refused to allow the documentary to be shown on stations he controls. Some media would not show ads for the documentary because it was "offensive to the honor and personal reputation of the prime minister." Do we really honestly believe America would never delve into this arena? Jon Stewart and Colbert allow me to laugh at what I should probably be crying about. Thank goodness; otherwise, I'd be a fairly miserable person. I am very attuned to the health care debate and politics in general. I am close to tuning out on health care reform 'cause all the "news" from Congress is too depressing. I think America needs a new party of progressives.”
