“You make a good point regarding inexperience vs. stupidity. It still points to the fact that we need to do a better job of educating our teens about alcohol and not just telling them not to drink it. I also think your idea about letting them experiment with alcohol under parental supervision has some merit. We definitely need to do something differently because binge drinking is rampant all across the country.”

“When I was young, I'd ask my parents to taste their beer or wine. I remember hating it, but because they let me, alcohol wasn't as big of a deal when I got to college. I think removing the excitement of doing something naughty goes a long way to being responsible. I would allow my children to go to a party at their friends house with alcohol if their parents were there to supervise. It just makes sense.”

“Even smart kids sometimes do dumb things. David had a reputation for being intelligent, generous, kind and having a great sense of humor. He had a positive impact on the lives of many. What happened to him is tragic even though most of the blame lies with him. I attended his memorial service today and NOBODY deserves to go through the pain that his family and friends are going through right now. College kids will continue to drink alcohol. It's our job as parents to educate our children about its affects and to know when to stop. It's sad to me that many of you are so flippant in your remarks. David was somebody's child, brother, friend... I pray that none of you ever experience this kind of grief.”

“LLG94-BS. I'm sorry that this ended in a tragedy, but we can't blame anyone else except the victim. At one time, he made a rational, sober decision to imbibe. People don't use alcohol, alcohol uses them.”
