Conservative Trio Supports Transferring Gitmo Detainees To Illinois

“What would Thatcher do?
That's what Republicans need to ask themselves. Thatcher sought to deny the IRA a propaganda advantage by NOT recognizing their acts as political in nature. It was the pillar of her approach:
"Criminals are criminals. To me there is no such thing as political crimes. Murder is criminal. Violence is criminal. It will stay that way. That hunger strike will achieve nothing."
Source: http://www.margaretthatcher.org/speeches/displaydocument.asp?docid=104590
The Bush Administration (and those trying to rewrite its legacy of failure) shortsightedly forfeited this strategic advantage.
The Obama Administration is correct to reroute these criminals into the Justice system. The trial will expose, among other things, that they do not represent Islam. This will divide them and do more to crush their 'movement' than all our smart bombs could ever do.”

Whtat happened on 9/11/01 and in the African Embassy's were crimes, and should be dealt with as crimes.
And the criminals should never have been given the legitimacy of war.
You cannot have war against a stateless group of thugs.
For instance, do we declare war on the Mafia? Crips or Bloods?
No, they are dealt with through the criminal justice system.”

As a veteran myself, I'm tired of watching the right wing define the debate on issues of national defense. The problem with chickenhawks like Tancredo is that they react emotionally. Cooler heads would have realized that the terrorists wanted us to go to war in Iraq. They played the so-called conservatives like frightened little kids. We are all paying the price for their inability to think strategically.”

“(Blue Dog) Democrats have just given the first (and perhaps final) lesson to an ENTIRE GENERATION of new voters: "Winning is not enough. We won't FIGHT for you anyway." What a waste. What a lost opportunity for change.
I think Nader sumed it up well:
"The guess here is that Obama will sign anything which squirms through a cowardly Congress that cannot give to the American people in 2009 the health care system Congress stopped President Harry Truman from establishing in 1950. It is up to the people of our country to “make him do it” whether this year or next. A mere one million immediate calls to members of Congress by one million assertive citizens will start sobering up these legislators who think they can get away with another sale of our public trust. The Congressional switchboard is 202-224-3121. The full Medicare, single payer bill (backed by nearly ninety legislators) is H.R. 676. The go-to citizen group for your sustained engagement is singlepaye raction.or g. The rest is up to you, the majority, who want to put the people first."

Is Conservative Obama Backlash the New Racism?

“Yes. It IS racism.
The President can't make this argument, but white men like me can. Why other white, male Democrats can't see that it is WE who must cover the President's back on this one is beyond me.
All these town hall meetings, the conspiracy theories... it's about one thing: race. Rank and file Republicans can not accept the fact that we have a non-white President. They will oppose (antagonize) everything he does.
racism |ˈrāˌsizəm|
noun
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
• prejudice, discrimination, or ANTAGONISM (caps added) directed against someone of a different race based on such a belief.”

Blue Dog 'Democrats' that's who.
The President knows where his base stands. The question is: do the Blue Dogs? Blue Dogs will be replaced in 2010 by the Tea Baggers no matter what we do. They are expendable. If we fail to USE our majority now, we may not get another chance.
The entire Party apparatus, including the President, was AWOL during August. Reid never should have allowed the Senate to leave for recess. We should have been knee-deep in a month long filibuster by now. A filibuster that would have exposed the Republicans and Blue Dogs for the anti-American corporate whores that they really are.”
