“Which situations are being diffused? Iran and Isreal will bicker until one or both is a smoldering crater, regardless of anyone's interference.

N. Korea will continue to make threats and starve it's people.

The US is definitely a catalyst, but these countries will act crazy anyway.

The US cant interfere with Iran anyway, 2 wars going on and both are going badly. Eventually Obama will do something with Iran, The IMF and Federal Reserve will be able to finance it, and the US tax payer will back the note with more debt to China and the Fed.”

“The international press reported Chavez providing oil and gas to Iran as a means of fending of any potential sanctions.

All the hysterics on the Right about Chavez, should be ignored, but the left can't afford to blindly defend him either.

Yes it sucks that America is addicted to Saudi oil, but that's not an excuse for Chavez supporting un-democratic nations or being a cheerleader for the rest of the world to gang up on the US. If Chavez really believes in democracy why help Iran? He's only doing it to stick it to the US.

America has a lot of problems right now. We can't make things right at home or abroad with Chavez acting like a child and stiring up more animosity.”

“This isn't about how Chavez is running his own country. In the past few weeks Chavez has helped out Iran with oil and natural gas to reduce the effect of any potenial sanctions on the country to stop their nuke program. He held a joint conference with neighboring Latin American countries to try to prevent the US from using bases in Columbia. He gave a speech in Syria, basically proclaiming Israel the imperial boogyman for the United States against the Muslim world. He's also arming himself with the help of Russia.”

“Carter is correct. Chavez seems to want to confront the United States at every turn these days, making it impossible to have a civil relationship.

It seems like he's trying to follow in the foot-steps of Fidel Castro. Defiant for the sake of being defiant. Maybe he wants war with the US to make his Simon Bolivar dreams come true? Unite all of Latin America against the United States.

Whatever his end goal, it will have negative consequences for the US, Venezula and the region.

Why is it that time and time again, nations that are angry at the United States turn to some form of tyranny in order to stick it to America? All they seem to do is stick it to their own people in the end.”

“Men in American society advise their friends to get a girl drunk, so they have sex. I've heard this said by guys a hundred times. This is seen as acceptable behavior, even by nice normal guys. The date rape drug and what happened in this video is just an extreme version of that attitude.

Most young women have no idea they are going to be preyed upon in such a fashion. Most young women are brought up to be naive and trusting. Young men are not aware that in most states if a girl is drunk when you have sex, you can be charged with rape. Consent equals awareness.

Schools should do more to point out what is acceptable sexual behavior and what is not during sex education classes.

I'm really tired of reading, "when a woman is raped she has to take responsiblity for being raped". When are we as a society going to hold men responsible for fostering a cultural where rape is talked about in such a causal unrepentent manner.”

desthmoneses replied on Sep 20, 2009 at 15:51:23

“That's not fair, plenty of women encourage men to drink alchohol for the same purposes. Alchohol is part of our culture it has nothing to do with wanting to rape or incapacitate someone. I'd also like to point out that rape and alchohol abuse are much less common in America then in the rest of the world. America has it's problems but it makes me mad when some know nothing tries to portray American men as these horrible criminals or sexual deviants, it's just not the case and simply stems from an individuals own frustrations with men.”

scottowego replied on Sep 20, 2009 at 09:49:44

“Rape is indeed horrible but the bottom line is that when anybody gets falling down drunk stuff can happen. You can fall down a flight of stairs and break your neck. You are easy prey for getting mugged, raped or murdered. As a recovering alcoholic I'm so grateful I survived those times I was under the influence. But I still have to accept the responsibility for allowing myself to be put in those dangerous situations. I could write a book!”

“Serena wasn't singled out. All players who throw a racket or scream at a line judge get warnings and point penalities. Everyone gets the same treatment because McEnroe made everyone so miserable for so long.

Its not acceptable for hockey/football players to verbally abuse lines people either. They get penalities or kicked out of the game.

It pains me that Serena lost, but she wasn't treated unfairly by the umpire or tournament officials. They followed the rules. The line judge did a bad job. The foot fault call was wrong, but Serena should have held her anger in check or at least challenged it away from the lines judge.”

“I was so upset to see Serena lose the match that way. It’s obvious from the replay, it wasn’t a foot fault. It’s understandable for Serena or any player to lose their temper under those circumstances. However, she confronted the line judge, which cost her match. It doesn’t matter what she said, it was the confrontation itself that broke the rules. The rules in tennis are now very strict against players verbally abusing or confronting linesmen and umpires. There is a zero tolerance policy. Serena lost the match because she already had a previous warning for breaking her racket and hitting it against the net. The rules are the rules, which is why I believe Serena didn’t argue with the officials or the umpire when she lost match point. She quickly accepted it, and shook Kim’s hand.

As far as racism goes, I would say there is no way of knowing for sure. Her disqualification was based on the rules, with two obvious infractions. The line judge who made the terrible call was an Asian woman. We don’t know for sure what was going on in her head or what she saw. I think she is blind as a bat personally.”

“Zinedine Zidane French soccer player head butted his Italian opponent in the chest at the 2006 World Cup. Zhao Shitong a Chinese soccer player chased and tackled a referee in July 2009. English football fans rioted after a West Ham, Premier League football game a few weeks ago. South African officials did not follow international testing rules and allowed a intersex person to run at the World Champions. Roger Federer threw his racket and got a warning in Miami in March 2009.

If non-Americans are going to judge all Americans based on the actions of Serena, than as an American I can conclude the French, Chinese, English are thugs, the South Africans are cheaters and the Swiss have a bad tempers.”

“Serena's behavior was wrong. She over-reacted and it cost her the match. The line judge was also wrong for calling a foot fault at a cruical point, when it clearly was not a foot fault. Why wasn't it given a review?

But to make a vast generalization about US sports being at "the bottom of the barrel on the world stage" because of what one American player did is beyond hyperbole. Its an odd statement that doesn't make any sense. American sports are not shown much outside of North America for starters. Plus its insulting and offensive to all Americans.

I knew Serena's actions would get American haters going.”

The reason that Americans wanted Obama over Hillary was never about Hillary being partisan. There were two reasons: 1. We want two political families controlling the White House for 20+ years. and 2. We were afraid that Hillary would have motivated the right wing base to come out in droves.

No matter which Democrat got elected we made the mistake of believing the Right Wing would act like rational adults.”

Everything you just posted is not rooted in reality. The people who could afford to leave the country have already done so. Those that weren't capable of leaving starve or live in fear of the government. A leader that actually respects human rights would not allow his own people to starve in the streets.
