“At 50 I had my entire colon and rectum removed and a j-pouch constructed for severe u/c. (Both my parents had colon cancer) At 51 the peripheral neuropathy caused by flagyl began to progress, even though I would never take flagyl again. I then developed Crohn's, then spasms at the anastamosis, and fissures, which leave me partially incontinent. Episcleritis soon followed. Now, at 57, life is a challenge, I have had to give up work, kayaking, backpacking and mountaineering and I live in chronic pain. I use daily probiotics (VSL#3) and take methycobalamine B12, EFA's, lysine and glutamine, and my diet is restricted to low residue foods, meaning whole grains, raw vegetables and fruits with skins and seeds are out, as the irritation they cause can bring mind-numbing pain.
I have been offered no hope for the neuropathies, save more drugs, the side effects of which are prohibitive. I use mindfulness pain management, yoga breathing, and try to keep myself as active as possible. My body has actually performed remarkbly well considering what it has been through. While I am always happy to hear of people who were able to control or even arrest autoimmune damage . . . I rarely find anything written to help those of us for whom none of the "miracle cures" have any effect. Seems medicine has focused on how to reconstruct the outer body to achieve aesthetics, but we still can not prevent scar tissue from strangling our insides. I am not impressed .”

“Thank you, Frank. I understand why you continue to feel this way, and why feel you have to contiue to apologize . . . as it IS ten times harder to take something back after it has been said, and often people won't listen. In college I wrote every single paper and thesis I could on the abortion issue: Ethics, Constitutional History, American History, etc. And I wrote from every point of view, as that was the only way I knew of to gain a fuller understanding of all the issues involved in this practice.
The conclusion I came to was so very close to yours and President Obama's . . . late term abortions should be neither necessary nor legal, readily available birth control and education about birth control will go further to prevent abortions than will preaching and rallying, and while I wish there were never a need or want for the services of a doctor who will perform an abortion, we must not make criminals of our physicians by making all abortions illegal. It is not a perfect choice, but that choice must be there.
And murder is never a valid choice when it comes to enforcing our beliefs . . . ever!”

Survey Shows Bleak Outlook on Small Business
Commented Dec 19, 2008 at 13:50:56 in Business
“I am tired of people telling artists, like myself, to get a real job, and that what we produce is not really needed. I have been saved from the effects of an 80% decline in sales in 2008 over 2007 only because I do have another, albeit small, income. But believe it or not, my lack of sales affects the businesses I support when I have to buy more supplies. My primary artist materials store has reduced staff, and if this continues, I am afraid I will no longer have the option to support a local business with my paint and canvas purchases. How about the community and gallery shows which make a commission off of sales . . . will they be able to continue to provide a means for artists like myself to hang our art for the public to see, enjoy, and perhaps buy? And then there is the fact than an artist who no longer sells any of their work is now considered have nothing more than an expensive hobby. The loss is in more than mere dollars, it can become a loss of visibility of culture and creativity.”

Rick Warren and Gays
Commented Dec 19, 2008 at 01:21:18 in Politics
“The POINT is . . . civil unions, on a state by state basis, are so UNEQUAL that it makes the "civil union" argument moot! A married heterosexual couple from Massachusetts can move to Texas . . . Kansas. . . . Georgia . . . Florida. . . . Nebraska . . . . Minnesota . . . Virgina . . . Arizona . . . .
AND STILL BE MARRIED WITH RIGHTS.
Heterosexual marriage has reciprocity in all 50 states for a heterosexual couple. A gay couple married in Massachusetts is not considered legally married when they move to most every other state. And even at home in Cambridge or Moores Corners, that gay couple is still not privy to the Federal protections of marriage! (A married heterosexual couple can file for FMLA protection in any state -- a gay couple can not.)
A married heterosexual couple enjoys Federal rights that a gay or lesbian couple can not even secure through costly legal paperwork or litigation.
Rick Warren represents the new "respectable" (???) face of discrimination. Are we going to allow the Church to become the new discriminatory and dictatorial regime?”

“"The real prop 8 should have been to restructure the entire legal concept of marriage which is really a violation of church and state separation to begin with."
I am afraid that Prop 8 was an attempt to make sure the LGBT population would not have ANY means left to validate their living family relationships as long as the evangelical christian church still has a breath left in its pews. Should gays get the right to legally secure their relationships, I expect that the church will seek new ways to continue the discrimination and demonization of gays with respect to the "other" ills of society. Prop 8 was never meant to be anything but another blockade to the recognition that gays and lesbians are entitled to the same protections of the law as everyone else . . . albeit thinly disguised as a "protecting traditional marriage."
And isn't it possible that denying gays the same rights of relationships as others in the name of "protecting traditional marriage and family" which, according the all statistics, are in a state of decline, is just a lame attempt to "bail out" marriage at the expense of a segment of the population who have absolutely no impact on current marriage and divorce statistics?”

As America moves into a post-Christian era, the question will be can the Christians separate the two?" Sadly, it has seemed the answer is 'No"...I have written Dobson, and others, begging them to rethink their positions. ..to ask for some Christian leadership to understand this is the time to speak up against lies, racism, et al...and only stock answers come back. Thank you for saying the truth...su pposed faith has been co-opted for political purposes and for those of us who keep the faith but have different politics, it's a lonely feeling.
