“Baloney! The bills are no more partisan than they've ever been. In fact, they seem to be MORE bipartisan than normal. The only reason that you think that they are too partisan is because Rushbo told you to think that.
Having said that, I agree, we SHOULD keep the filibuster around. What we should ALSO do, however, is MAKE the minority party actually hold the Senate's attention until they get so sick of him (or her....) and vote for cloture!!”

“I guess I would be splitting hairs here. Yes, McVeigh was a terrorist. But before the word terrorist became so ingrained into our vocabularies what word would have been used to describe him? Searching my vocabulary for that word.....but too much kitchen time with a turkey that is still frozen like a boulder has addled my brain and frozen my hands. But I don't remember the word terrorist being used so often to describe people like McVeigh. Got any ideas? Or maybe they just didn't exist in such great numbers back in the day and there was no real "word" for it. I don't know.”

“They AREN'T voting for the filibuster. Read the post. It explains that in the modern definition of a filibuster, you merely have to tell the Senate Majority Leader that you are going to filibuster. He then asks his Whip to count noses, and as long as they don't seem to have 60 votes to break the "filibuster" then they don't even bring it to the floor!”

In other words, we need to go out of our way to ensure that we are ALL taking care of ALL of us. Since seniors are generally either unable to GET or unable to AFFORD health care, that's not unreasonable for us to provide it for them.

“I disagree. I think that we need the filibuster to be in the Senate rules. That way you can't have a one vote majority in the Senate and push through really bad things (even though the Democrats allowed just that.....) I think that what we need to do is to actually have a filibuster. MAKE the opposition party explain to the people WHY they are blocking the legislation. If they are right, and the people agree with them, then they will gain more votes next time around. If they are just wasting our time, then people will vote them out of office!”
