“I work at Legacy and we run a free online quit smoking program called BecomeAnEX.org. The plan helps smokers re-learn life without cigarettes and connects them with a community of quitters who are going through the same struggle/success.”

Should We Ban Smokers? Some Companies Are

“Smoking is an extremely addictive behavior and the vast majority of smokers start in their teens. It’s very difficult to stop smoking. The addictiveness of nicotine is comparable to that of heroin. A just-released study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that in 2010 nearly 70 percent of smokers said that they wanted to quit and 52 percent tried to quit, but only about six percent were successful. Many of us are working hard to help smokers quit, and there is much more to be done. But let’s not deny jobs to smokers who can’t beat a powerful addiction.

Rather than refusing to hire smokers, employers can make a real contribution to public health and enhance their bottom line at the same time by taking some proven-effective, common sense steps. How to Fearlessly Quit Smoking

Commented Jul 26, 2012 at 13:33:05 in Healthy Living

“I work for Legacy (LegacyforHealth.org) a national public health nonprofit and we run a free online quit smoking program called BecomeAnEX.org that might be of help to some of the people commenting here. The site helps smokers re-learn life without cigarettes by providing a free online personalized quit plan. In addition to information on how different smoking triggers can be overcome with practice and preparation, addiction and how medications can increase chances for quitting success, and how support from friends and family members can play a critical role in quitting, there is a robust online community filled with other smokers who are working to or have already quit who provided ongoing continued support. Whether this is your first try at quitting smoking or your 10th, BecomeAnEX.org can help you really do it this time.”
