“Did you pay attention when Bush was President? He lied us into a war and led us into the worst recession since the Great Depression. That was after going through the surplus he was left by a Democrat.
You are not taking care of your own, your state receives way more money than it sends to the government. How is that taking care of your own?”
“Really? The only poll that mattered was in November of last year. Remember that? When Romney and the Republicans made repealing the ACA a major part of the campaign? What happened again? Oh yeah, President Obama won reelection by a healthy margin in the popular vote and a landslide in the Electoral College. The Democrats gained seats in the Senate and garnered more votes for Congress but thanks to gerrymandering couldn't take the house. The people spoke loud and clear they wanted to keep the ACA.
Your only choice now is to wait for it to be implemented. If it fails, you win the Presidency in 16 and repeal the law the right way.
But you know it will be popular and that scares you. Oh well.”
“Try to talking to your messiah Reagan about trickle down economics and the emphasis of wealth over creating. It's very easy to see where the debt started its climb.”
how did that happen on Sep 26, 2013 at 01:44:47
“Try talking to your Messiah Obama and ask him why he has Fed Chairman (that he nominated) buying a billion dollars of bonds every month and devaluing the dollar. Ask him why he is having interest rates so low so that it feeds Wall Street at the expense of Main Street.
It is easy to see why there is a growing divide between the rich and middle class. The Fed is creating it and he is allowing it to happen.”
“You do understand the difference between having problems with portions of the law and wanting to scrap the whole thing, right?
Maybe if the right tried to fix the law instead of throwing a tantrum, things might get better.”
how did that happen on Sep 26, 2013 at 01:52:29
“I favor scrapping the law and coming back together with a bipartisan approach to getting it done. There was not a single R that voted for it, they did not use a lot of the ideas that the R's put out that would have brought costs down.
We do not have a choice in what we want to have and I have to pay more for less.
Nope, I am not in favor of it and shall not be. Anything that takes my choices and puts them in the hands of government I am not in favor of.”
“Actually I'm not engaged in religion at all, the whole concept is just ridiculous to me.
I tell you what I am engaged though, that's keeping religion, any religion, out of our secular government as intended and enshrined as the very first line in the very first Amendment of the Constitution.”
“It's not a matter of being sure something doesn't exist. It's why should I consider believing in something of which there is no proof it exists? If someone can show me some proof that a god exists, I will be happy to reexamine my position. Until then, there is no more reason to believe a god exists then there is to believe that unicorns exist.”

“Based on your conclusions, you cannot believe atheists exist either and be consistent.”
“And that's supposed to be a bad thing? Because as we discover new knowledge, we change how we view the world? That's called progress. You keep getting your "knowledge" from a book written by ignorant sheep herders. You know the ones who believed the universe revolved around the earth. Or that one time god stopped the rotation of the earth. Do you have any idea what would happen to our planet if it were to stop rotating? You can live in ignorance as much as you please, just don't ask my family to join you there.”

“Who is asking you and yours to believe anything? I just said I don't believe in atheists. So in effect you are trying to tell me what to believe, you're kind of a hypocrite.”
“You must be in a bubble. I live in CA, but am well aware that Christians all over the country are trying to insert their beliefs into law. I helpfully named a few of the ways in my previous comment.
If Christians don't want it to appear that they are all fundamentalists, evangelicals or poorly educated, then the more reasonable and educated of you need to start shouting your own radicals down instead of complaining about how you are perceived. The reason we don't make the distinction between snake handlers and Unitarians is because when the snake handlers say stupid things, other Christians don't admonish them for it, So since you don't do so, we have to figure that you agree with them.”

“Maybe the people you are talking about are smart enough not to waste their breath. ”
“We try, but we run into the beliefs of the religious wherever we go. No marriage equality, regulation of women's bodies, denial of climate change, trying to teach creationism (religion) in schools. It is quite tiresome.
The other tiresome thing is thinking we are ignorant of others religious beliefs. Most of us were raised in religious homes and have studied various religions. That is what made us atheists to begin with.”

“I'm not sure I understand how atheists are persecuted wherever they go, but perhaps it's because I live in the bubble of New England that I don't see daily mistreatment of the faithless. Or maybe I'm oblivious. I think I live in a highly secular society, for which I m grateful. But what I do see--speaking specifically of HP comments--are assumptions that all Christians are fundamentalists, evangelicals, and poorly educated. That's a pretty broad brush to paint a religion that has encompasses an extremely wide variety of orthodoxies and practices. So, yeah, I think that commenters who make no distinction between snake handlers and Unitarians are uninformed. To say the least”
“No we don't. For centuries the religious have persecuted and even killed those who don't believe. I don't believe I have to respect something that hates me. All I want from the religious is to be left alone and for them to keep their religion out of my government.”
“Like science, we exist if you acknowledge us or not.
I don't require your belief or understanding, just keep your religion out of my secular government as intended by the Founders.”

“I have a science book I bought in college, how much do you think the bookstore will give me if I sell it back to them? I will tell you, not one penny, do you know why? Because the answers have changed.”
“The store apologized and corrected its training. No shoes and shirt is a safety and cleanliness issue applied to everyone. A dress code is applied to everyone, so is not discriminatory.
So if it's in there, why would they make a cake wishing a "Happy Divorce" to someone? Like most Christians they pick and choose what they wish to follow. Hypocrites.
In the end it is Christians alienating themselves from the rest of society as society progresses and religion stagnates. We're just trying to keep religion from being a drag on the rest of society.”
“First of all, it's not a matter of what I wanted. I have been happily married for 24 years to my wife. It's a matter of what's right. A place of business can't refuse to serve you because they don't like who you are. Should they be allowed to discriminate against other religions? How about color of their skin? Did you know this same bakery had no problem with a divorce cake? The bible has more problems with divorce than homosexuality if you go by the numbers of verses. They are hypocrites. So no there is no compromise, because for years there has been no compromise from bigots and to compromise now would be to give up gains made.”

“Yet when you read articles about girls being kicked out of clothing stores for being fat - and we don't see the same level of outrage? Or how about no shoes, no shirt, no service? Isn't that discriminating? Or how about a dress code - my gosh, that really intrudes on civil rights. And the number of verses doesn't matter - either it's in there or it isn't. I think you make a big mistake and only alienate yourself more from the Christians”
“God would owe us an explanation as to why he was so bad at his job. If you accept the God of Abraham as your God than you have to accept his baggage also. The murder, incest, misogyny, rape, condoning of slavery, all of it. It could answer as to why it would never stop all the murder and done in its name.
No I do not fear your made up god. Your god only has the power you grant it.”
