“It pains me to agree with the Tea Party on anything but on this issue I do. I do not see any reason for local governments to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to build facilities for sports teams, many of which are owned by billionaires.”

“How do you think they became billionaires? By spending their own money?”
“Add to that list the number of people who paid healthcare insurance for much of their life only to be denied coverage when they got sick OR those that went bankrupt paying medical bills in spite of having insurance.”

“They forgot the people who will pay to go to a live show only to watch the entire thing on their phone as they film it.”

“I was at a concert and had problems seeing the artist because everyone had their phones out. Why? Why can't people live in the moment and just enjoy the show? So you're at a concert, looking at the live artist through your phone, to watch later? Or just blocking my view! Just stay home and watch crappy videos others took at concerts then. Ugh! Takes me every once of control not to knock the phones out of their hands in spite.”
Katherine Adams-Quekirk on Dec 5, 2013 at 10:51:53
“My biggest pet peeve! If you just wanted to watch a concert through a screen why not save yourself the money and watch it on youtube?”
“There should be a minimum 10 year residency requirement for elected office. If you want to represent a group of people, you should BE one of those people. This would completely shut down the carpet baggers like Brown.”

“I like that!”

“and, of course, Romney, who started his run for Governor of Mass. while he was in Utah.”
“"The Post also quotes anonymous NSA officials explaining the program, saying they spoke with the permission of their agency."
If they had permission to speak why are they anonymous? This statement also strikes me as strange since the reporter spends the next three paragraphs describing the named officials who DID NOT confirm the story.”
“If the the person running the scam has been at it for any length of time then they know how to use proxies to shift their IP to anywhere in the world. In short, an IP check would stop virtually no one. So once again we come down to you expecting the site to vet each profile based solely on the information provided OR by monitoring the actual use of the site. So once again we come back to the question, how much access are you willing to give these sites to "verify" your intentions.”
“Remind me again what happened in 1994? In case you forgot that was the election season leading into up to the Republican mid-term takeover of Congress in 1995, the Gingrich "Contract with America" Congress. The same Congress the spent hundreds of millions on the Clinton witch-hunts which ultimately led to NO substantive actions.
The common denominator in most government disfunction of the last 35 years is the GOP.”
“Who is going to screen you and make sure every statement is 100% factual? Was your profile completely honest or did it contain little embellishments designed to cover what you see as your flaws? An overly grand job title perhaps or feigned interest in the theater or maybe it was using a picture that is 5 or 10 years old because it looks better than anything taken recently. Just how much access are you willing to give these sites to verify your life?
As for this model's picture being used; There are many commonly known measures taken to prevent images from being 'borrowed' and if she didn't take advantage of them then it is on her.”

“I agree with you on the first but as to the second, the onus is on the site to secure a friendly and safe environment with which to conduct your conversations. A site such as these do have a vested interest is seeing to it that the pix used arent the same on more than one member, verifying that "local" members arent using overseas IP address.
Yes, the members themselves need to practice safe contact protocols, certainly, but the sites themselves have a duty to also see that their members are not illl used.
Sites like Match.com are well known for being scam havens but there are others that keep things better and hopefully people will gravitate to those. It is just difficult for casual user to do enough research to even find a site and tend to believe that a site advertising its safety would indeed be making an effort.
Although maybe its just our own faults for being lonely and want a place to find someone like us.”
“The do nothing GOP has to save up their energy to trash the country's economy some more in January with another shutdown and default threat.”

“And cost the American taxpayer billions! The last shutdown costs 24B. Shame.”

“Get a clue...
"It’s been nearly two decades since Congress last passed on time all the annual federal spending bills that fund various government agencies and programs. Determining how to spend tax dollars was once a routine, bipartisan endeavor. But since 1994, Congress has used a variety of legislative maneuvers, high-stakes brinksmanship and mega-budget bills to keep the government funded."
