Lyndon Johnson, His National Security Advisor and His Secretary of Defense Say All

Commented Nov 23, 2009 at 12:16:42 in World

“I watched that special, and it was painful. Wasn't it Obama who said on the stump that insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results? As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing to agonize over. Get. Out.”

“I'm enjoying Jay's show a lot more lately. I think he's smoothing things out. The interviews aren't stilted like they seemed before, and I really enjoyed this panel thing. I hope he brings it back to the show.”

A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to Talk About Afghanistan

Commented Oct 16, 2009 at 08:22:51 in Media

“I agree with Arianna. I'm sick of exhibitionist parents and their brats on TV. The poor kid barfed twice during interviews with the media. That family should be left alone, and the parents should know better than to parade their kids on TV. If anything, the media should comment about their bad parenting, the possibility of a prank, as the balloon looked enclosed with no place for a human to ride in it, and maybe ask why this guy has a UFO-shaped balloon in the first place.”

With Palin and Media Gone, Juneau Returns to Its 'Blue-State' Normal State

Commented Oct 05, 2009 at 10:04:27 in Politics

“When my husband and I visited several year ago, Juneau reminded me of the Massachusetts hilltown where I grew up (only with much bigger "hills"). The townspeople seemed to me fun-loving, progressive, laid back. authentic; and they were wonderfully willing to talk with me about their wildlife encounters. I'll never forget the local bus and friendly driver to the ferry dock. I came away with fond thoughts of that state. Which is why I was so perplexed when Sarah Palin turned out to be such an ugly character. I hope things turn back to normal for everyone there. They deserve some peace and quiet.”

“I wouldn't be so dismissive of Carter's influence. My, extra-large, big Jeep-driving father bought a Honda Civic because the president told us to save gas. My father called it a Japanese beer can, but he stuffed himself and his family of four into it because the president said we should buy smaller cars to save gas. Did I mention that my father was a republican?

Also, when I was in grade school, we had the president's physical fitness program, which I believe was started by Kennedy. So, other presidents did try to get involved in the physical well-being of Americans.”

“Great post, Alec! Ted Kennedy was indeed a great person. I've always been proud to have him as my senator. I went to your rally with Michael Kennedy at Smith College in 1994. It was a very hot day, and not a great turnout, but I still have a photograph my husband took of me with you right behind me, and a foolish smile on my face. I also got to say a few words to Michael, who looked so much like his father. Thanks for what you did during that campaign.

I always look forward to your essays on Huffpo.”

“TV is definitely consistently better than Hollywood movies! Don't forget "The Wire", "The Shield", "Deadwood". I can't afford cable, but I get the DVDs. I find that one episode of the above series is more compelling and entertaining than any feature-length movie I've seen recently.”

“Thanks for this post. I was just thinking the same thing today at lunchtime. We now have a president with a mind, heart, soul, and conscience for a change. Can this work? Can he survive? Do you have to be a sociopath in order to succeed in Washington? I have faith that good will prevail, and I agree that Obama will tweak his game to get the upper hand. I have hope.”

“Okay, so I'm from western Massachusetts. Boh-ring. I did some visibility at the polling place nearest my house (but not where I vote, that's five miles away from my house--go figure), and there were only Obama signs there, which was a bummer. I wanted some McCain people out there to talk with. (There are McCain people in my town, even though we're very liberal. Several Obama lawn signs were set on fire in the past few weeks.) Traffic was very heavy between 7a-8a, and then it leveled off. When I voted at *my* polling place during lunchtime, there were about a half-dozen voters there. I got an "I voted" sticker for the first time ever. And even though I vote in EVERY election without fail, this was the first time I was all teary-eyed. I'm getting emotional just writing this.”

“I am going through the exact same thing. I'm sick of it, and I've started grinding my teeth again. I've also decided that the only way not to watch the returns or know what's going on is to sit in the darkness of my back yard with the skunks and coyotes until it's all over.”

azyuwish replied on Oct 23, 2008 at 09:40:19

“I have also started grinding my teeth again! My husband declared a politics-free weekend last weekend so we kicked off the weekend by renting a hilarious ROFL comedy called "Death at a Funeral". That worked well; we watched it two nights in a row. But on Monday it was HuffPo in the morning and Olbermann and Maddow at night (sometime PBS News Hour to get a more mellow buzz).

We have 3 years until my husband can retire from his 20 years at his Union job and then we'll be downsizing. Our daughter plans on going to Europe for University, will we follow? Will we join our friends who've been living in Mexico for the past 11 years? It depends A LOT on who is elected President. Honestly, if we have to see/hear first McCain/Palin and then a second term of Palin/whoever, we won't be long for these shores methinks.

What freaks me out the most is the election being stolen; not by voter suppression, by the voting machines being HACKED by this method, which seems to have happened already (twice).

“Thanks for bringing that up! I'd forgotten about this debate moment. When McCain trashed funding a planetarium "projector", my husband and I just looked at each other in disgust. Some of the most magical moments of my childhood were spend at my local planetarium. Although I didn't become a scientist, I remain in awe of the wonder of our universe. That was a hideous choice of "pork barrel" spending on his part.”

Seven Reasons Why Hillary Was the Better Choice

Seven Reasons Why Hillary Was the Better Choice

Commented Aug 25, 2008 at 09:29:39 in Politics

“Joe, as an ardent Obama supporter from the beginning, I agree with you. The last thing I wanted to see was a return to the Clinton era. I had had enough, and want something different. However, I do believe that he should have picked Hillary as his running mate for the many reasons you stated. However, I think that the same arguments would have been used against him: he picked Hillary because he's *not* sure of himself; the repubs would have used everything Hillary said against him as ammunition (and those are much stronger missiles than anything Biden said against him); and that it will be a return to politics as usual. On the up-side, though, I think Hillary and Bill would have been the best campaigners, and I think it would have been a tremendous surprise, and would have quelled any opposition. The repubs are making the most of this rift in the democratic party, and I am afraid it's going to work.”
